The vibrant animation in #Dizzillusions represents sensation, specifically auditory #sensoryoverload that I frequently struggle with. Abrasive sounds (and even strong smells and certain touches) “jam my frequencies” and make it difficult for me to concentrate/communicate. You can imagine that Times Square is usually a difficult place for me to be! April is #AutismAwarenessMonth. I am autistic. I use my talents to self-soothe when I am overwhelmed, making hypnotic motion graphics and musical loops, even humming (the groan you hear in this video) and most recently singing. The #TimesSquare #MidnightMoment allowed me to broadcast my self-regulatory practice in one of the world’s busiest pedestrian areas, asserting my presence in this violently gentrifying city. For just a moment, as the street turns pink and blue, I feel calm. Maybe you will too. Dizzillusions plays every night of April at 11:57 - midnight. Hey y’all I’m in a group show a re:trospective curated by @homeschoolpdx in the old Pfizer building in Bushwick! It’s at 630 Flushing Avenue, Brooklyn and open 11a-6p on weekends through December 2nd, go check it out!!

“The idea was for this to be a retrospective of emerging artists,” says curator and artist manuel arturo abreu of re:trospective, a group show that recently opened inside the onetime Pfizer factory in Bushwick.
“Retrospectives are this market tool to present a long view of an established artist’s career, but I was interested in demarketizing it,” abreu continues. “What does it mean for an emerging or younger artist to think about their work retrospectively? I think young artists are often thinking about their work this way, asking, How am I establishing a career or a presence for myself?”
