To fight monsters, we created monsters of our own.
PACIFIC RIM (2013) dir. Guillermo del Toro
thinking abt when pacrim said there are people out there who will have the capacity to know you completely and love you in a way where you genuinely complete each other, VERY much a metaphor for platos concept of two souls splitting from one and then said this is important because you can pilot a huge robot and beat up giant aliens together
Pacific Rim is great because of the absolutely fanfiction level of its plot points. Want to pilot the giant robot? You're going to need to share your most painful memories. Who will you share them with? YOUR CRUSH
i'm so glad the venom movies are "bad" because if they were "good" i'd have to sit through 20 mcu inspired setups for generic one-liners more painful than passing a kidney stone a minute and attempts to make tom hardy as eddie brock a neatly packaged clean shaven suit and tie sex symbol that only serve to do the opposite. instead i get the most hilariously earnest attempts to portray whatever the equivalent of a 'like an old married couple' relationship between a sweaty neurotic mess of a man and every monster fucker's dream of an alien slime that is also used for illustrative purposes when you look up the definition of 'bastard' in the dictionary is and i couldn't be happier.

wife letting me hold baby: isnt this the coolest thing ever? me thinking about Breaking Bad Remix (Seasons 3-5) and that part where Jesse Pinkman walks into the superlab and slaps out a very elaborate beat on one of the storage drums superimposed over the sound of Badger riverdancing after trying walter white’s blue meth: yeah its somewhere up there
天国と地獄, high and low (1963), dir. akira kurosawa
there’s literally nothing stupid about pacific rim sorry your pea brain doesnt comprehend the transcendent beauty of soulmates killing monsters together
All great suggestions
