i would rather someone live out the rest of their life dependent on or addicted to a pain medication that helps with their pain, than suffer in pain that could be helped for the rest of their life just so self-righteous dicks can say "thank god they're not an addict"

This attitude of doctors gatekeeping pain medication ends up effecting black people at much higher rates than the rest of the population

Also this plays a huge role especially in Sickle cell patients, who deal with unimaginable pain daily and opiods are one of the best pain management options we have for them, but many Sickle cell patients have a really hard time finding doctors that will adequately treat them, even though Sickle cell patients are exempt from the opiod guidelines.

Bottom line, everyone deserves access to make informed decisions regarding their own body. Even if you disagree with that decision or think you know better than them.

-a writer's only job is to tell their story. they have no responsibility to you for how it makes you feel. you chose to consume the story. so those are your feelings that you need to take ownership of.

-discomfort is not the same as harm and acclimating yourself via fiction to strongly unpleasant emotions such as sorrow, indignation, and disgust will make you stronger and healthier

-however if you are repeatedly triggering yourself by engaging with media that makes you miserable you should probably recognize that it's up to you to stop hurting yourself

With regard to that last point: Regularly exposing yourself to content that you know will be triggering or otherwise extremely upsetting can actually be a form of self harm.

Digital self harm is a relatively new concept, but it is a real thing that people struggle with, and it is oftentimes a symptom of declining mental health. If you're doing this to yourself on a regular basis and you find it difficult to stop, it may be time to seek professional help.

A little over 8 years ago, a friend of mine, L (name redacted) was hit by her scum-bucket boyfriend.  It wasn’t the first time he’d hit her, but it was the first time he’d hit her in front of her best friend J. (name also redacted.)  J objected to the abuse, you might say she objected violently to the abuse (which is one of the reasons why the names are redacted even if the statute of limitations should be up.)

After scum-bucket had fled the scene, J decided that L needed some more support, so she called every women she knew.  Everyone available showed up to L’s apartment with weapons and booze.  Imagine if you will, around 30 women stuffed into a one-bedroom apartment comforting L and passing around the drinks when someone spots scum-bucket’s car pulling into the parking lot.

It was decided that a few ladies would stay in the apartment with L while the rest of us when downstairs to confront scum-bucket and prevent him from entering the building.

Now all of us ladies at that time happened to belong to the same theater group that specialized in swashbuckling plays, lots of sword fights and the like.  So, when I say we brought weapons, I mean we brought things like broadswords, battleaxes, crossbows, rapiers and like.

So, scum-bucket gets out of his car and starts walking across the parking lot only to spot 25 or so heavily armed women marching out of the building, raising their weapons and charging at him while screeching like furies.

Scum-bucket had a pretty good sense of self-preservation and the sight of us was inspiring.  He ran back to the car and peeled out of the parking light like the hounds of hell were at his heels and I suppose we were.

Anyhow, L never heard from him again.  Eventually, she and J started dating and they’ll have been married for 5 years next September.

The casual enbyphobia of starting a new game and being told to "pick your gender" but you (& all other players) are only given 2 options. Whether they're labeled male/female, masc/fem, "styles", or vague short-hair VS long-hair icons, whatever, it's all the same. We all know the message they're sending.

Plus the even greater sin of it being in the form of a character creator, instead of just making you pick a blank slate protagonist.

can people please shut up about the love languages?? they were cooked up as a gimic to sell self published books by a conservative homophobic evangelical priest who hated his wife and lied about being a qualified psych!!! nothing about the love languages is a legitimate analytical tool. your otp makes sense because they're written well by people who are good at their craft, not because person a likes gift giving and person b likes affirmation. your partner doesn't understand your needs because you both need to be better at communicating or you're actually not good together, not because their love language is acts of service or some shit. everyone likes being given things and told nice things and kind gestures! It comes with being a person and youse need to find a better way of expressing that because using the self-published ramblings (of a man who hated women) to catagorise people is, dare I say, a habit that will endear you to bigots more than anyone if you aren't careful.

80% of "passing" is having enough money to purchase the clothes and services that will allow you to pass. Please stop holding being able to stealth up as the pinnacle of trans achievement. That place belongs to surviving. It belongs to finding joy. It belongs to love and community, not people who are rich enough to have professional makeup artists and tailors.

One of the many things I hate about Cyberpunk 2077 is that they were able to design and include genital sizes in the character customization but still haven't given any thought to include fat bodies.

And don't even start yapping about how in a cyberpunk setting there would be no fat people, because food is clearly available to everyone and if we could pick and choose body parts I would still want to be fat and unlike what most people have printed in their fatphobia rotten brain, not everyone is desperate to be thin and some people actually like their fat bodies. But everyone wants respect and everyone wants to feel included. Crazy, right?

Fat characters shouldn't be a token among 100 thin people for your "body positive" products. I shouldn't have to dig so hard to find one single fat character in videogames that isn't made fun of or isn't a villain. It's no longer the 1950s, we're actually including everyone, not only the people you decide that are deserving of basic respect. Let fat (and disabled- the "wheelchairs are hard to animate" argument is getting old) people in too.

I'm sorry, but I do find it pretty annoying that the only time people on Tumblr seem to care about platonic relationships is when they're trying to argue why a canon M/F ship would be better as friends when what they REALLY mean is that they want the F to get out of the way so the fan favorite M/M ship can get together.
