Dream Witchcraft Vocabulary Terms To Know

Part 2 of a Series, for more search #Oneironautics on my blog or leave me an ask.

REM: “ Rapid Eye Movement sleep is a unique phase of sleep in mammals and birds, characterized by random rapid movement of the eyes, accompanied by low muscle tone throughout the body, and the propensity of the sleeper to dream vividly.”

Lucid Dreaming: “ A lucid dream is a type of dream where the dreamer becomes aware that they are dreaming. During a lucid dream, the dreamer may gain some amount of control over the dream characters, narrative, or environment; however, this is not actually necessary for a dream to be described as lucid.”

Dream Incubation: “Is a thought technique which aims for a specific dream topic to occur, either for recreation or to attempt to solve a problem.”

Oneironautics:  “Refers to the ability to travel within a dream on a conscious basis. Such a traveler in a dream may be called an oneironaut.”

Oneiromancy: “the interpretation of dreams in order to foretell the future.”

Hypnopompi: “ The soul or spiritual guide.”

Astral Travel:  “Is a term used in esotericism to describe an intentional out-of-body experience that assumes the existence of a subtle body called an “astral body” through which consciousness can function separately from the physical body and travel throughout the astral plane.”

Notable Mention- Reality Shifting/Shifting“ Reality shifting, according to those who do it, is a way to move your consciousness from your current reality (CR) to your desired reality (DR).” - Personally I consider this to be the same as Lucid Dreaming, Astral Travel, Dream Incubation, or just Maladaptive Daydreaming depending on the method and result.

What is Red Salt?

Most witches already know what black salt is, but I feel like many witches (especially baby ones) don't quite think of other salts. For example: red salt. Red salt is an ingredient for a multitude of different magics and practices, including further powering a spell, manifestation, protection, libido magic, and passion magic. It's commonly used in spell jars or to replace regular salt, and occasionally in kitchen magic.

So, how does one make red salt? Well, there are many recipes, and the recipes vary from witch to witch, just like black salt. Here is my personal recipe for a small batch.

What you need

  • A cleansed jar with a lid
  • 1 tbsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp cayenne
  • 1 tbsp red chili flakes
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp finely crushed bay leaves

Simply add all your ingredients into your jar, give it a shake, and use it as needed. I personally enjoy using red salt in spell jars relating to self-defense, personal power, and general protection. I also enjoy using it to anoint candles for spells and rituals to enhance the power behind them. I can also suggest adding a pinch or two (very small amount) to kitchen spell recipes to enhance its power as well, but be light with it because the flavors may not go along with what you've made.

As always, do your research, be safe, and blessed be!

More Art Magic Ideas🎨🕯️

  • Draw or paint using your non-dominant hand to bring out your inner child
  • Create a mini oracle set out of bottlecaps or coins
  • Write odes to the tools, herbs, etc. that you use the most in your craft
  • Use only natural materials in a work of art- tea, coffee, dirt, plant parts, etc.
  • Decorate playing cards to act as talismans and keep in your pocket/wallet/bag (i.e. a money drawing card to keep in your wallet)
  • Bring your inner sacred space to life by drawing/painting/collaging/sculpting it
  • Use handmade images as offerings to spirits or deities; create personalized images of spirits or deities you're in contact with
  • Make a poppet of yourself and stuff it with petitions or pictograms of what you wish to embody
  • Create a powerful protection amulet to hang above the doorway of your home/sacred space. What does protection look like to you? Use materials that reflect the kind of protection that you're looking for.
  • Crochet or knit a blanket that is enchanted to bring good sleep, good dreams, or for inducing a hypnagogic state

Anonymous asked:

Gods can be portrayed as darker skinned but they can't be portrayed as a different race without a single trace of Greek or Italian. bro there are people who draw them as black or islanders.

It's been a while since I've physically rolled my eyes at an ask, so thanks ig.

The ancient Greeks depicted their gods as being anthropomorphic, but it was never stipulated that they had to be Mediterranean-looking.

Zeus Aithiops (literally "the Black") was worshipped on the island of Chios during late antiquity (Lycophron, Cass. 537), and an instantiation of Artemis that was surnamed "Aithiopa" was worshipped elsewhere. Already, there is no reason why the gods can't be portrayed as Black. And need I remind you that Afro-Hellenes exist lmao??

IIRC, the Greek gods were also occasionally surnamed Aigyptios/Aigyptia, denoting them as being Egyptian. I know for certain that Dionysos and Artemis were viewed and portrayed as "foreign gods"; Jennifer Larson talks about their "foreignness" (both literal and metaphorical) at length in her book "Ancient Greek Cults: A Guide."

You're demonstrating a severe lack of faith in the agency of the gods, and making yourself out to be historically illiterate.

They are universal gods. The ancient Greeks were eager syncretists, often equating their gods with the divinities of other foreign populations to demonstrate their universality. If you have a problem with the gods being portrayed as not Greek, take it up with the ancient Greeks. There's also the fact that the gods aren't Greek in origin. Scholars maintain that the gods we know are Hellenic instantiations of preexisting gods that were imported from elsewhere. Herodotos even expresses a similar view in his Histories.

My brain is melting having to explain this to you.

tip for those who struggle with building up their grimoire:

I'm rebuilding/reworking my own grimoire atm and, in poking around for inspiration here and there, I've seen a bit of a trend regarding indexes and tables of contents.

A lot of posts for Beginner Witches have looong lists of things you Absolutely Must(TM) include in your grimoire. These read almost like a super extensive syllabus that covers what seems like every topic under the sun, and are, quite frankly, completely unnecessary.

This is a friendly reminder that you don't have to include anything in your grimoire that you don't want to.
  • Not interested in astrology? No problem. Don't include it.
  • Don't work with herbs or crystals? Why spend time writing notes on them, then?
  • Don't celebrate Wiccan holidays? No need to include info on the Wheel of the Year.
  • etc etc.

Part of the reason why I never finished my last couple grimoires were the fact that I felt pressured to write extensive entries on things I wasn't interested in, or on things I already knew and thought redundant to include. I had dozens upon dozens of unfinished pages, and the knowledge that I was expected to write things on each of them filled me with such anxiety and dread that I just... stopped opening my notebook up altogether.

This time around, however, I'm taking a different approach to my grimoire. I have limited time and energy to commit to my craft, and I'd rather not spend it on shit I didn't really care about. In my new grimoire, I have not and never intend to include notes on the 'basics', or overviews of every pantheon and every deity, or summaries of the different types of witches or spells or what have you. I'm including only what I think is important to me.

Your grimoire is supposed to be your personal journal, documenting not only the things you've learned but the things you're actually interested in. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do research -- it's very important to expand your education, especially regarding different worldviews and outlooks to your own. But!!

Don't feel like you've got to write an encyclopaedia, or produce a textbook for future generations to consult, because that isn't the point.
