“Did Wang Yibo ever read the original novel?”

Y’all have been asking the wrong questions! He started with ~Transformative Works~!

Some people were surprised he even knew the word “doujin” (mostly fan fic in this context, but also an umbrella term which includes fan art, fan vid, etc.) because it’s really a fandom thing.

So I was like, “Wei Ying, I love you, come back to Gusu with me!” And he was like “Get lost, bitch.”

So, at this point in the story Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji have made a vow together during the lantern ceremony, but only Wei Wuxian thinks of that vow as a partnership (and we are to think Lan Wangji would like to, but won’t allow himself to dwell on the idea).

Then Wei Wuxian forcibly follows him all the way in his quest and basically declares, in front of Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen, that, just like them, they have chosen to be partners because they are like-minded (the “mutual choice” refers to the lantern ceremony even if the audience doesn’t know yet).

Lan Wangji remains impassible, without confirming or denying.

But later, while watching Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen walk away, Lan Wangji stands there unable to move, visibly having a deep emotion.

Just let me give you a close-up of the neck.

And that’s because it finally sinks in that he has a partner! That Wei Wuxian was talking seriously!

And Wei Wuxian confirms it again in asking him to leave together like it is the most natural thing in the world! (A parallel with Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen.)

And then comes the telepathic agreement…

And, just like Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen, they walk away together side by side.

(Parallels obviously reprised during the Yi City arc.)
