I honestly don’t think Escapism would have received as much backlash from fans if the song wasn’t linked to it. I think waiting for months to have the episode with the song in it air really amped people’s expectations. A slower episode was nice, but I think it’s safe to say that no one was expecting the melons. Regardless, the crewniverse put a lot of work into the episode and I look forward to next week.

I find it really interesting that in Yellow Diamond’s sauna she has the new diamond insignia on her drain, but on Blue Diamond’s drain she has the old diamond insignia that included Pink. Yellow did say her sauna was new, so maybe that’s why.
