DRAMAtical Murder cosplays are often unnecessarily complicated so this blog will hopefully help with that!

hello! i really need some advice for my clear cosplay. im going to comic-con in new orleans of january 2016! but im super nervous because im actually quite quite young to be cosplaying for dmmd. i have the whole costume including the wig, but im just super nervous because i have a feeling i might not fit in with others. or just in general not a good cosplayer at all. any advice? it just kinda makes me feel nervous thinking about it.

Most cosplayers don’t really care about your age, as long as you’re not loud and obnoxious and you’re pretty mature. If you’re underage, I honestly advise you to suggest you only watched the anime, since, yeah, DMMd is pretty much porn and a lot of the adult fans frown upon minors looking at it. See, I don’t know you at all, so I can’t really help with anything specific, but I totally understand where the worries come from.

Something that used to make me ease into cosplaying back when I was younger was costesting the characters at home and practicing my makeup and wig styling constantly before the con, making sure everything was perfect to me. I took lots of pictures and was like “damn, that cosplay is so nice. Damn, that cosplayer is me.” This obviously doesn’t work for everyone, but it’s worth a shot!

In the end, you need to remember that cons are for fun and that’s the only thing you should really worry about. I totally understand where the nervousness from fitting in comes from, but I’m sure you’ll meet great people and have fun! Remember: you don’t have to stick to talking to people from the fanbase you’re cosplaying from.

I’ve never seen your cosplay, but I’m sure it looks great!

I hope my rambling encouraged you or helped in some way. I hope your con goes great and that your nerves are calmed soon!

Is there any place I can purchase a brain nuts logo to go on my Aoba jacket? I don't have the skills to make it myself since this will be my first time sewing his jacket... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sure thing!

Just look up for embroidered patches, they’re actually pretty cheap for what you’re getting!

Here are a few..

1  (Etsy, free US shipping and ships worldwide), (Etsy, free US shipping, international buyers must pay shipping and custom fees), 3 (Etsy, must always pay for shipping, different shipping options. Default shipping does not come w/ tracking. International shipping available.)

Hope this helped a little! Good luck on your cosplay!

hello! I'm doing a closet cosplay-ish Aoba (suit version), and i pretty much everything hoarded for it now, but i'm a bit scared that people won't recognize me and my suit Noiz with me? do you have any ideas to make it look more like the character? thank you!

Avatar

I feel like the Aoba wig is enough to give people the idea you are from DMMd, but you could maybe put one of the patches from Aoba’s jacket on your suit jacket to give people a more clear idea. You feel me?

Don’t feel bad if people don’t understand you’re the character you intended to be. I mean, you did say it was more of a closet cosplay, correct? A friend told me this one story that they were cosplaying Ishimaru back when Dangan Ronpa was just getting popular as someone at a con said they loved their Japan (Hetalia) cosplay. It happens to everyone, even if it’s as accurate as possible!

Would any type of stuffing work for filling in Aoba's jacket to make it puffy/does the type of stuffing matter? Such as pillow stuffing, ect.?

I wouldn’t recommend actually stuffing the jacket. I think quilting batting should work well for the jacket. Feel free to check out some Aoba jacket tutorials we have in his tag.

Hope this was of some help!

Haiii, I really wanna either cosplay as Aoba, Clear, or Koujaku but I'm black and I feel kinda unsure whether I should do it or not. Do you think you can give me any advice?

Avatar

hello! i definitely think you should and all of us mods agree. go for it! there will probably be some people who will criticize you but people do that to everyone who cosplays regardless. just know it’s shallow and not constructive criticism at all. it’s all bullshit. so don’t listen to it or it’ll hurt at lot more than it should. no one likes being criticized and it almost always hurts at least a little so i understand why you might feel held back. but you deserve to be able to have fun and feel safe in the community. and the dmmd cosplay community has been so nice and fun and welcoming regardless of skin tone in my experience at conventions! the cosplay community isn’t a competition for “who looks the most like the character they’re cosplaying”. it’s just for fun! cosplay has and should always be to have a good time. a safe and fun way to express your interests and love for fictional characters. so if you want to, you definitely should! don’t let your skin tone hold you back. you’re gonna look great no matter what cosplay you do just try your best and have a good time! if you need any help with your cosplays in particular then i’ll gladly answer any questions, just shoot us an ask! i hope it goes well!

Hi! I'm looking for a Shiroba wig, but I can't seem to find any good wigs. Do you have any websites or anything to help?

Avatar

i find a lot of wigs made for shogo makishima from psycho-pass would work really well for shiroba! so searching for wigs for that character anywhere (ebay, amazon, aliexpress, etc.) and finding one you like for a price you like and doing the standard review+ratings check on the seller would be good!

another option would be getting a shorter white wig and buying white wefts and putting those in!

a bit of a psa

i’m gonna go through and answer a lot of older asks. but again i apologize for the excessive inactivity on our part. we’ve had a Lot of trouble trying to keep up with this blog. i’m glad we started it and i want to keep it up to the best of my ability!

but we, as mentally ill minors still in school, probably don’t make very reliable mods. it’s hard to volunteer any amount of our time to answering asks on top of our responsibilities to our mental health and our education etc. it’s become a source of stress for some of our mods so some of them will be going on hiatus until they’re more stable and healthy so the blog itself doesn’t add to the stress they already have to deal with.

the purpose of this post is to just give you all a heads up, i guess? like we’re people, we have more immediate responsibilities so we won’t always be able to answer time-sensitive questions on time. and for that we apologize. though we’ll try our best, it’s good to have a back-up plan and to not completely rely on us to give you an answer until we have more mods that are more reliable. we don’t want any of your efforts you’ve put into your cosplays to go to waste because we couldn’t help on time! that’s all. thank you for reading!

Could you help me find/link me to some navy blue (or the color closest to Aoba's long sleeved-undershirt he wears in his default outfit? The maximum amount of money I'd be willing to spend is 20 dollars just so you know of a price range that I have to work with. Thanks so much! ^^

mmmmmmmn. i’m sorry. i think i’m gonna have to put it in the faq to not ask things like this.. it’s very polite so i feel kinda bad answering it like this but like... these kinds of questions waste our time and this blog can get really stressful with all the asks that pile up and all the work we have to put into answering things. i don’t mind helping people out and finding stuff and giving advice and everything! but this is very simple. it can take a lot of time because of decision-making and stuff! but it’s still very simple. a long sleeved navy blue colored shirt can be found Very Easily with a quick search. especially for less than 20 dollars. and there’s so many that look so similar. it’d take a really long time to find ones that we think you, in particular, would be satisfied with. there are just so many options. not only that but you could even find ones at stores that sell a variety of clothing like wal-mart for cheap. like less than 10 dollars. thank you for providing a price-range and everything like the faq says to do but this Really isn’t hard to do by yourself. this blog is to help with the more difficult/complicated aspects of dmmd cosplays that you can’t really figure out on your own and stuff or to help you find things that you’re having trouble finding decent or acceptable listings for. i’m sorry to kinda reject your question like that! you’re a real sweetie pie nd were very polite and i can tell you read the faq! i really appreciate it! but if you can avoid sending an ask at all we’d really appreciate it. think of us as more of a last resort i guess? like we’re all about helping who we can but we still have lives outside of the internet and outside of this blog (i’m sure you could tell with how inactive we’ve been lately though... eugh. we’re sorry) but yeah! so we’d just appreciate if you only send a question if you’re really stuck on something and you have tried all you’re willing to try and you need Help! have a good day, and again i’m really sorry to answer like this. good luck with your cosplay!

Do you think a first-time sower would be able to sow Aoba's jacket with the help of tutorials and pattern references? I really want to cosplay Aoba but I've never sown before...

oo, i wouldn’t recommend it. however, it completely depends on how dedicated you are to doing it and if you know you could stay motivated to doing something that difficult! i’m not sure how satisfied you’d be with the end result because a lot depends on experience no matter how detailed any tutorial is. using a sewing machine is your best option but those aren’t “cheap”. but neither are the materials necessary for aoba’s jacket! so it’d be a Huge loss of time and money if in the middle of your project you decided to quit or if you do manage to finish you’re very unhappy or unsatisfied with the result. i definitely encourage trying if you feel you’re up to it! but it would Definitely be Very Difficult and cosplay is an Expensive Hobby even if you try to spend the least you possibly can. so i really wouldn’t want you to waste any of your money!! i’ve, unfortunately, done it several times. and i have so little to begin with. it’s very discouraging and stressful. however if you still feel like you can pull it off i can’t stress enough how important it is to follow the tutorials as Closely As Possible. i’ve tried to skip steps or substitute things a lot and it almost always ends with wasted time and materials. and Money!

if you can, i’d highly suggest you order a pre-made jacket. if you can’t that’s okay! but i think it’d be the cheapest safe option because you know for sure how it’ll turn out if you’re buying from a trusted seller! (check the reviews and the ratings. on ebay, if their ratings are less than 98% i’d go with a different one to be safe. also check their negative reviews to see if there are any on the product you want. the more sales they’ve made, the better. if they haven’t sold any of the product you want at all and their ratings aren’t really great ((99-100%)) then you might want to go with a different seller to be safe. as for aliexpress it’s a bit different but it’s generally the same. if their ratings are less than 96% then it’s probably no good. but it heavily depends on their sales and the ratings on the specific product. check the seller’s store. if they only sell cosplay stuff then it’s probably good! the main thing to look for though are always the reviews.)

hello, everyone! this is mod aoba! i haven’t been active on this blog at all due to not having wifi at my house. i only had access to mobile which isn’t really efficient for the purpose of this blog. i’ve also been struggling a lot with my mental health. so yeah, i’ve kinda had my hands full. but i’m back!! i’m getting help and i’m much better. (though i recently started school so i still might not be as active but i will do my best to make time!) this is my new account which i’ve made just recently. with that in mind, i’ll be renewing myself as mod trip! (for reasons i’m not really comfortable with specifying! sorry if it complicates things.) i’ll be going through and answering whatever asks i can right now. glad to be back! hope you’re all doing well!

Hello! I plan on cosplaying Noiz soon, but I am not sure. I am kinda chubby and I am very short (5'1). Some people say I should not cosplay him because of this. If you agree with them, do you possibly have a recommendation for someone from DMMD who would fit my body type more? Thanks!!!

You can cosplay anyone no matter what your body type is!! I say go for Noiz! Don’t listen to the people who say you shouldn’t!

I was just wondering, for the cut parts of Koujaku's kimono (the sleeves and the back), how do I make it so those parts don't fray? I'm planning on handmaking the kimono from scratch and I think trying to hem them wouldn't work out very well?? thank you!

Hemming them would be my suggestion, but you could also try fray check. i know some people will slightly burn the edges with a flame, but this method can be extremely dangerous and can destroy it so i wouldn’t exactly recommend it.
