I feel like when I say ‘relatable’ what I really mean is ‘resonant.’ I don’t want characters who I feel are like me, I want characters who have emotions so strong I can feel them through the page.

I think this is important because a lot of us forget the power of stories to make us feel things about characters who are not like us, who have experienced things that we never will. The purpose of listening to someone else's story should not necessarily be identification, but understanding.

This headline so succinctly sums up this particular horror unfolding over the last few days.

"Famine" here is the technical definition, certain criteria must be met for one to be declared and by the time it is, in a sense it's already "too late", the deaths are already happening.

For months we've been hearing about the lack of food getting through, how many people are affected, and we've already seen children and the more vulnerable die.

Well, now we're on the cusp. Some experts say the window to avert a famine is already closed and the goal now is to mitigate it. Others are, in an attempt to convey the urgency, framing it as, it's almost here but we have to act fast!

Separately, you may also have heard of the extreme trouble getting aid to the north, where people are beyond desperation. And yes, that is where the multiple (!) Flour Massacres are happening.

A couple of days ago, with multiple Gazan police and tribes coordinating, they got aid trucks safely through.

Israel is now assassinating THOSE people. Not "just" killing UN aid workers, or destroying aid warehouses, as it's been doing this whole time and we as a world have allowed, it is now sending teams and airstrikes specifically at the people who were able to safely organize these aid deliveries, including chiefs of police. This kind of experience and expertise is being killed off, as literal famine is taking hold (and of course will be gone in whatever "after the war" situation we're left with).

When is enough going to be enough?

If you're in the US, contact your representatives AND senators and say you oppose sending weapons to Israel. Even if they're already calling for a ceasefire, let them know you still support that.

perhaps some will disagree, but i think the world got worse when we changed the colour of the night

this is what i mean

To be clear, THIS is how nights of the future should be lit

This is bat friendly street lighting, which not only looks sick as fuck but allows bats to pass through without disturbance, as they cannot see red.

orange and especially white lights deter bats and prevent them from reaching feeding grounds at nighttime. Please if you can, write to your local council and encourage red street lights!!!!
