Hello there, it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Astrid Cailmel, Goddess of Light.  Please, let me know if there's something I can do for you (Indie semi-selective RP blog for Astrid Cailmel from Astrid's Apostle, not spoiler-free)

“Seems interesting, would you kindly take us there please?” Liam said

Rebecca nodded.  “Of course.”  Shutting off the simulation, Rebecca started to leave the Temple, motioning for her companions to follow.  “I’m sure you’ll be able to find plenty of work over in the Guild.”

“Alright, but we don’t know any places about this universe.” Edelgard said. “Wait, “Adventurer’s Guild, what’s that?” Liam said

“Basically the largest mercenary company in the world,” Rebecca answered.  “People join the Adventurer’s Guild to go fight monsters and help people out for gold.  They pay good money for that kind of work.”

Avatar
“Alright! So what should we take a break and explore this world?” Liam said

“If you want to explore, I’ll be happy to travel with you,” Rebecca answered.  “We can hit up the Adventurer’s Guild to get you guys signed up for that.  That way you’ll be able to make some gold while you’re here.”

Liam combined a mix of fire and ice attacks at the Orcs while Edelgard uses her axe to hit the Orcs

The combined attacks definitely did the trick, allowing Liam and Edelgard to fight back against the Orcs.  While the Orcs didn’t go down nearly as quickly as the Goblins, they were hardly unbeatable either while Liam and Edelgard fought together, especially since the Orcs didn’t exactly have a massive numerical advantage over the two of them.

Rebecca seemed pleased at this.  “Good, so you can handle Orcs.  I think it’s safe to say that you’ll do fine on this world against most opponents.”

Liam look at the cracked ice and thought off something
Liam creates ice shards and throws them at the Orcs

The ice shards mostly dinged off of the Orcs’ armor due to how sturdy the plating was, unfortunately, though it did cause the Orcs to reflexively guard against the attack and kept them in place for a bit.

They were hit moderately and Liam makes the floor icy for the orcs while they run away for a bit

Unfortunately, the ice trick wasn’t nearly as effective on the Orcs this time, possibly because they weighed significantly more than the Goblins.  Mostly the ice ended up cracking beneath their feet as they attempted to pursue Liam and Edelgard, though thankfully the ice did have the effect of slowing their advance so they wouldn’t fall over.

Liam prepares a fire spell to see if it would affect them or not

The flames definitely hit the Orc, but it didn’t seem to outright kill them.  It looked like it hurt them, but the Orcs roared and charged into melee, swinging their axes at Liam and Edelgard.  They attacked with significantly more skill than the Goblins from before, and they struck with drastically more force as well.

“And a lot bigger.” Edelgard said “Um, has 2 people ever defeated orcs, or do you need a whole team?” Liam said

“If you’re good enough you can take them out solo,” Rebecca answered.  “Not recommended, but certainly possible.”

Avatar
“Might have to be forceful If I ever want to get them to talk.” Liam thought. “Anyways, what’s next to fight?” Liam said

Rebecca hummed in thought, clearly going over her options.  “Let’s see...how about we put you two up against some Orcs then?” she concluded, as three big, hairy, ape-like creatures with surprisingly advanced-looking armor and big axes appeared.  These creatures looked like they had quite a bit of muscle mass in their bodies, and the training to know how to use it.  “These guys are a good step up from the Goblins.  They’re a lot stronger than they look as well, so try not to underestimate them, alright?”

Avatar
“Parley? well, if they are intelligent, can they speak like us though? Liam said. “We feel like we need to rely on each other if we want them to be defeated quicker and better.” Edelgard said

“Parley is a word used for diplomacy,” Rebecca answered.  “Which is to say: Yes, they can speak, but good luck getting them to say much of anything before they try to stab you to death for existing.  And yes, teamwork is important for fighting monsters around this world.”

Avatar
Liam and Edelgard then strikes the goblins while taking caution of the icy floor that Liam made. “I wonder if they can talk like us.” Liam said. “Who knows if anything can talk like us.” Edelgard said

With the two of them teaming up, they managed to eliminate the Goblins just fine.  Rebecca hummed.  “The monsters here are generally intelligent, yes,” she admitted.  “Most of them aren’t much for parley though, they just jump to trying to kill us on sight.  It’s why I said that you really need to be capable of fighting to survive here.  Still, good work back there.”

Liam noticed that the Goblins were trying to get them off balance, Liam decided to use his ice powers to make the floor icy but not where they both are.

Making the floor icy definitely managed to do something against the goblins, the creatures now slipping on the floor and hitting the ground, leaving them vulnerable to Liam and Edelgard.

Liam and Edelgard draw their weapons and they hit some of the goblins, trying to avoid danger the best that they can.

The Goblins worked their best to coordinate and keep Liam and Edelgard off-balance, striking at them from multiple angles to keep them on the defensive.  Thankfully, these Goblins weren’t particularly sturdy and were able to go down relatively swiftly when they actually got hit.

Liam and Edelgard observes them to see what they would do for a bit

The Goblins decided to swarm the two of them, charging in to try and use their superior numbers against their two opponents.  The knives they carried were surprisingly advanced and quite capable of piercing heavy armor, and while the Goblins were hardly particularly skillful in melee combat, combine that with their numerical advantage and it could prove a problem for the incubus and Emperor.

Avatar
“Wait, those are Goblins?” Liam said “Um, could you tell us more about them?” Edelgard said

“They’re one of the weaker monsters we deal with,” Rebecca answered.  “They rely a lot on superior numbers, a technological advantage, and prepared killzones to deal with their opponents.  They can put up quite the fight if you’re not careful though, so don’t underestimate them.”

Avatar
They thought for a bit, and they were ready. “Yes we are ready.” Liam said

With that, Rebecca tapped at the console to activate the simulator.  The plain white room seemingly transformed into an open field with little more than some hills to mark the terrain.

Appearing before the two were a group of short, stocky, green aliens armed with little more than knives and some basic armor.  There were about five of these aliens that had appeared before them.

“Let’s see how well you do against these Goblins,” Rebecca declared.  “You should be able to handle this much, at least.”

Avatar
Liam and Edelgard followed them, wondering what will happen, Liam tires his best to not collapse due to him not fully recovering.

Arriving at their destination, the War Games room seemed like a blank white room with a console of some kind in the center of the room.  “Here we are!” the princess declared, approaching the console.  “When you guys are ready, lemme know and I’ll set you up against your first opponents.”
