“ A penchant for fading and in.
That rather sounds like a ghost to me, dear, but
of course, if you’re positive you aren’t dead than
who am I debate that?
Some others see ghosts, yes. In fact, my husband does. It’s rather how we met.”
An interruption found itself breaking her thoughts at the mention of a Faceless Old Woman living in one’s homes and setting possible fires and rearrangement of personal items.
“If they were a spirit, they appear to be a rather angry one.”
“ you seem rather familiar with ghosts & the paranormal so--i would think you would be a good judge of what is what. although. i accidentally wandered where i should not have been. hence me not being able to keep myself home, unfortunately.”
& she gave pause, lips meeting tightly in thought, quite seriously considering the potential explanation for the Faceless Old Woman actually being something explainable. it was almost incomprehensible.
“ she is--kind in that roundabout way. i have not had the opportunity to talk to her yet but she sometimes cleans out my fridge of rotting food & i have found edits in my baking book.”
”oh, multiple times! it’s such a tedious job to undertake but it’s fun at the same time. just a bit much for someone of six to try and do for fun.
funny how two people could feel the
same about something so trivial. but it
isn’t, is it? it’s everything and nothing all
at once. enough to give philosophers a
huge headache, that’s for sure.”
“ i think--you are quite delightful. & i am dana, by the way. i have come to find that trivial topics tend to bring people together, as well as separate them. & it is daunting to consider how many good relation- ships severed due to so-called triviality. honestly, relationships are difficult to predict even at the best of times. & then it is contemplated whether being completely alone is ideal.”

❛ gray area? yeah, it’s called being a jerk. they can be. other times, way less discrete about thing. the only thing you should know about olympians is to never think or say that you know how to do something better than them. ❜
“ huh----this topic doesn't seem to make you very happy.”
❛ ——————Well, I can assure you nothing here will cause people to turn into anything. ❜
“ oh. if you say it that way, then. can i-- have a slice of your favorite ?? ”
║█║ ⁞╰ ♆ ╯⁞
❛ greek myth’s crazy. the olympians are either drunkards or home-wreckers, trust me. ❜
“--really ?? no gray area in between, or maybe. perhaps. they are all fantastic actors & it is difficult to decipher otherwise. although, i can't say much. my knowledge on greek mythology is severely lacking.”
The hooded figure who steals babies for some reason.
❛ ——Wheat. Why do you ask? ❜
“ actually, i asked since wheat & wheat by-products were banned by the city council from the city i'm from. they were found to be rather dangerous, causing citizens to change into highly venomous snakes &, eventually, into malevolent spirits who wrecked havoc around town. ”
thecardiinal has answered the call
{ ♜ } “Nothing you’re saying is making any sense! But you’re not showing any signs that you’re lying - I just don’t know what to make of any of this. How is any of that even possible?”
“ i don't think anything--or much of anything, that is-- could be considered impossible. i mean, possibility is determinant upon perception & how open one is to believe it, so. i guess my answer will be dependent on what your definition of possible is. ”
The lantern bearer stares at her for a few moments, before his gaze is cast aside to something he deems more interesting than the hypocrisy that she embodies. Though, some part of him tugs at him to answer her in some way, so with moments of hesitation, he offers forth a curt reply.
" I don’t belong here. "
& she stares right back, gaze unwavering even as his attention is captured by something other & through his silence, her head tilting slightly to the left. brief relief tugs at her--since she wasn't alone, since there was another being besides the hooded figures she's been hiding from--more importantly, one who could talk ! with a breath taken, her voice light & quick--
“ well. we take up space in this large, wide universe, which is constantly, & quite reliably, expanding & changing--so much so that it is rather difficult to keep up with anything--much less feeling like we belong anywhere for any amount of time. but, hopefully. you will soon find somewhere you could call home for the time you have here.
-- unless you meant here, as in night vale, the dog park isn't the best representation of it, to say the least. ”
I don’t know who is responsible for originating the “Carlos the Aperture!Scientist” headcanon but I want to kiss them on the mouth
(Cecil named the turret Ezekiah and in a fit of delirium Carlos reprogrammed it to shoot silly string instead of bullets and to amuse Khoshekh with its laser sight)

❝ i am quite certain i am not a hooded figure — though i can see why you might mistake me for one of them. i promise you, though ;; i may happen to look similar to their kind, but i am not one of them. ❝ after all, they do not bother to use your language, do they ?? ❞
he is as reassuring as a BEAST can be, though his capacity for such things is limited ( beasts aren’t exactly known for being soothing, after all ). if all goes well — she will BELIEVE. but this town is very strange indeed ;; he has his doubts.
“ that is true. cecil once tried to conduct an interview with a hooded figure but the figure emitted loud, static buzzing like the ones heard when a tv isn't connected properly. & all i know about them is that there are a lot & they enjoy congregating near the dog park & the elementary school's playground. but i--may or may not have ever seen a hooded figure with things protruding from the figure's head. although. anomalies do exist. like the baby snatching hooded figure. ”
she is genuinely curious--citizens of night vale were easily recognizable, whether or not they've actually seen each other before. there was a strong feeling of familiarity despite them being largely unfamiliar & strangers were difficult to find, with foreigners rarely staying for long. & dana knew practically nothing about the figure in front of her--who looks like a hooded figure but not quite acts like one.
"Can you pretend you didn’t see it?" It’s a legitimate request, Cameron is mortified of anyone seeing any signs of his illness. That insecurity settles into everything he does and wavers in the shake of fingers.
“ sure. i could pretend but--i don't think me pretending is going to convince you for long. although, rest assured! i am a very convincing person. so--is there a theater nearby? i do hope to see a movie before i have to leave town again. ”
words quick, her voice light, the other's trembling hands taken into account but her comment was set aside due to his request; her curiosity not at all assuaged but she'll try her best not to pry.
“ quick question--are these made with wheat or wheat by-products ? ”
“ you're not supposed to be wandering in the dog park, you know. i am not even supposed to be acknowledging its existence but i'm already in here so-- ”
