Fun Fact:

The Stitchpunks all were born during the war against the Machines and saw mankind and all life fall. Except 9. 9 was given his piece of the Human soul around the same time but he didn't get his awakening jolt until 10 years later when his ropes that held him up for the soul transfer finally snapped and let him drop to the ground.

Immediately he understood all too well, the heavy burden of ethical issues weighing in onto the larger male’s entire being when 9’s entire demeanor turned dismal over the explanation, it was a weight he was immensely familiar with. It always seemed that even with good intention behind many a great minded scientist’s work, so much more came along with it or was derived and twisted by others. He could not deny the wave of guilt that enveloped him, not now and certainly not in the past. He remained a guilt riddled and haunted man to the day.

A solemn and empathetic gaze was cast on the minuscule, artificial individual. Taking in a deeply inhaled breath in preparation for what would come next, slowly he spoke with the long, released exhale that followed.

"Truthfully, your story is one of a troublesome way of life, none should have to see such times and I am sorry for that, Nine-san. It is quite possible that ones such as myself did create these machines of which you’ve described, I won’t lie to you, scientists are capable of a great many things, both benign and malicious. they can bring forth the betterment for all or wreak devastation." he took pause as his thoughts wandered towards the darker corners of his mind, through the shadows of a past he didn’t enjoy reviewing.

"Not all with the intellect and passion for creation seek the same causes, not all are completely good nor completely bad, each draws their line differently between the light and the dark."

9 listened closely to what the other had to say, awestruck by both his wisdom and the knowledge he was willing to share. There was so much the young Stitchpunk could learn from him, and learn he would if offered the chance. There was just something about knowing all he could about the world that drove him forward, that gave him an idea of purpose. Since no one else was going to do it, he figured he would be the one to learn and study all there was.

"So, the Scientist that started the creation of the Machines could have meant it all to go a different way?" 9 asked curiously, optimistically. His mind would have been more at ease to know that whoever started creating the Machines could not have been evil or even intend for the end of life to happen.

Ever the curious mind he continued to examine 9, all of the actions and displayed emotions were a remarkable wonderment. His mind was jilted back as it was very reminiscent of the revelation of ModSouls being housed within plush toy bodies, suddenly it occurred to him just how similar this tiny creation could very well be to his own.

The pragmatic male’s thoughts were gently interrupted as his focus was pulled back to 9 who was speaking once more.

Placing a hand to his chin he wondered exactly what The Machines could be referring to, as it seemed to be a title rather than a general term of the overall meaning.

"I can truthfully say that I have personally manufactured beings such as yourself, they could be considered similar enough from all I can tell, without in-depth research, that is but Nine-san, tell me, what are these ‘Machines’ you’ve mentioned?"

"I'm not really sure how to describe them myself." The Stitchpunk answered honestly, rubbing at the top of his head and his gaze falling to the ground. "I just know that one day the Machines turned against all sources of life and destroyed everything. I think it was things that look like you that created them, but I don't think all things like you were involved entirely."

Urahara’s expression changed to one of concern but only briefly as a reaction to the little one’s change in tone. Soon a wider smile replaced any doubt as he gave a quiet chuckle and reached to scratch the back of his own neck.

"Actually, I’ve seen my fair share of various engineered phenomenon, mechanical, biological, chemical and otherwise! Creation is something that fascinates myself and natural souls, along with artificial souls are something I’ve researched for a good amount of my own time! What I meant was I’ve never come across one exactly designed as you are, similar maybe but usually on a larger scale." the reply practically burst from him, speaking on his passion was rarely something he could hold back with and science was indeed a passion he held.

A scientist! So, there were others. This was exciting news indeed. 9 curled up a small smile, rearranging his stance to that of something much more relaxed and good natured, hands held together in front if him as if expecting something else that was interesting. "So, you've made other things like me." He assumed, wondering what a Stitchpunk, although he was unaware that he was called that, would look like at the full size Urahara described. It must take a lot of Human soul to operate one of that size. "Did you help make the Machines?"

Slowly maneuvering he positioned himself into a more comfortable state of sitting rather than standing, somehow he felt it would be much easier to communicate this way. Watching with all curiosity as the little individual turned about to display his number, what a delightful thing to have added to oneself, there was some slight humor to be found in it, in the man’s own opinion. A smile made it’s way to his face as he nodded in approval and understanding.

"Aha~! I see, Nine-san, I am Urahara Kisuke and I can tell you that it’s a pleasure to meet one such as yourself!"

"Urahara. Urahara." He repeated the person's name for memory's sake. He took a few steps back when he decided to seat himself, assuming that it was alright to relax if the much larger being was able to. It had been a while since he had seen any active machines anyway. "You mean... you've never seen anyone else like me?" A bit heartbreaking, to say the least. 9 was kind of hoping that this being knew of what he was and more on than what old books said about how he was created.

The tall, blond, male placed his gaze downward, settling on a small animate being as it moved towards him. He marveled at it’s capabilities, for something so small it appeared to function quite well. Mind brimming with questions over what he was witnessing, he studied what he could, that was until the creature chose to reveal yet another ability, that of coherent speech and language.

Eyes widened for but a moment before returning to a relaxed state. He had never seen anything exactly like it, a miniature humanoid creation, it seemed synthetic in nature but very much sentient unto itself now. Nothing was beyond the realm of all possibilities, he of all people knew this and this was truly a wonder to behold before him.

"Hello, mini-san, I have come from a place called Karakura Town, I am curious though, what do you call yourself?" he asked calmly, hoping not to startle the tiny being.

Mini-san? What was a mini-san? This person just made the young Stitchpunk all the more inquisitive. Leaning to the side, more or less to less a better 3 Dimensional view of the other, he looked the other up and down, taking in as much data as his miniature mind could handle. This person was enormous! Not as big as a building, but still quite large. Another thing, though: what was a Karakura Town? Were there other cities out there in the world?

"I'm called 9." He answered a tad meekly, seeing that this thing in front of him didn't appear as threatening as any of the machines he had encountered before. The Stitchpunk turned his back just enough to the stranger so as to show off the number etched into the his burlap skin.

This thing. It looked like one of the things the Scientist was. The young Stitchpunk never did take the time to learn what the Scientist was, being in a sort of rush when he had come back to investigate him. All he knew was that he came from this Scientist person, like a child from a parent. Jaw partially agape with awe, the Stitchpunk labelled 9 on its back stepped closer out of curiosity, raising a hand slowly to greet the stranger. "Uh, hi. Where did you come from?"

Some things in this world are better left where they lie. But if you know where to look, these ruins are full of riches.

We had such potiential… such promise. But we squandered our gifts, our intelligence. Our blind pursuit of technology only sped us quicker to our doom. Our world is ending… but life must go on.
