Firealpaca update for april (2.11.18)

Check this one if you wanna get larger text, some "mesh transformation" improvements, add layer blending mode updates and maybe some brush updates as well. (Will test over the weekend)

If you or anyone else has any problems with this update, remember: you can always go back to the previous working version.

FireAlpaca Ver 2.11.18 (*Update for macOS version will be available soon.)

( 2024/04/06 )

  • Brush presets have been completely revised.
  • The maximum font size for text layers is now 5000 pixels.
  • Added "lock movement and rotation" to mesh transformation.
  • Corrected the calculation of additive blending of layers (improved to highly versatile expression).

Hi! I've tried looking it up but haven't found anything on what I'm looking for, and I've seen this blog come up when looking for other general Firealpaca things, so I figure I'll try asking here. Do you know if there's any kind of setting to make my Firealpaca brush settings default when I close the program? It used to do that before I updated it and I liked it resetting the opacity and size of the brushes I used every time I closed the program, do you know if it's a setting or something or if it was just a thing removed from the newer versions?

Hello! It seems that this could be a bug after newer updates. If you don't mind, you can try downgrading this more recent version and see if that works.

If you have the newest version installed, they actually changed it a bit in a recent bigger update, so that if you change your brush temporarily e.g. change the size, it will keep that change, indicated by the brush number being red the next time you open it. Now, it would make sense, that if you go to the brush settings (double-click the brush or click the gear icon), you should be able to reset the brush. But it seems that over the more recent updates, this does not work anymore the way it was intended. I remember when the update with this change came out, it kinda worked as you'd imagine it, but had some weird behaviour then too.

When you go into settings, it now simply saves the new size over as if you clicked ok. The only thing for now I can reccommend for now, is that you remember the original size of the brush and re-type it in again. Then it should be back to normal. Unfortunately, it does not seem like many have noticed yet, but I just tested it on my own Firealpaca and it doesn't seem to work properly at all. All we can do for now is write a bug report at the official site.

In general, I suppose this was a feature that was requested by other users. That's the only thing I see as possible as in the update log, it seems that it was a long-awaited feature.

Note to Self - Speaking without Words with Word Balloons

Word gallons are for more than just words. They can be used to emphasis and even add emotions and to a scene

Feeling dizzy? About to pass out?

A lilting playful swirl (Time and Time Again by Deo I)

The white and black of the text has been replaced with a sinister black and the words are off tilter (Sword Interval by Benjamin Fleuter)

The voice is coming from a place deeper and more unsettling and the text is uneven and handwritten

A dismissive comment literally (metaphorically) stabs someone (Marionetta by Míriam Bonastre Tur)

Being interrupted before finishing what is being said

A withering and icy reply (The Secrets of Soulford by the Quincil)

Wobbly uncertain bubbles that even break apart in some parts from dizziness (The Blind Prince by cozycroww)

Pain almost appears to be breaking the usually round bubble into uneven and broken balloons. The little smaller balloons around it are reminiscent of sweat or tears (Heir’s Game by suspu)

Hi! Thanks for your page, it's hard finding resources for Firealpaca online.

Do you know how to make roller brushes? I'm trying to make my own roller brushes to help speed up my drawing workflow, but I just can't understand how they work.

Hello! Roller brushes don't really have an official tutorial as far as I know, but I've only been looking through google search, and following the official accounts, so maybe there is something out there. So I'll do a little explainer on roller brushes, based on my own experience.

Basically, when you look at official roller brushes, you'll notice the image can be quite long. The image used can be distorted by the roller brush engine, even if the image itself is straight. The brushes also always go from left to right, horizontal, so the brush can "roll" properly:

If you want your stroke to be continuous and always connected, you should make sure that the left and right edges connect. These vine brushes for example, because they're connected at the edges, these stalks look like the can be never-ending.

Image

However, when using roller brushes, if you do more loopy, shorter or quicker lines, instead of continuous and long ones, you can start to notice that the brush cuts off a bit in some sections (bottom right corner of this green example image)

When making something more natural looking, it can also often start to look a bit obvious where the canvas cut-off of the brush is, so my tip based on my own an official brushes, is to make the cutoff very exact, but also ideally, avoid realistic brushes (with a preference more to "template" style brushes like the vine stalk examples here), or to make the cutoff intentional (like I've done with these "ink roller" brushes here), so it doesn't look too strange when the brush is not used for smoother/straighter lines. Hope those tips help a bit!

also, so sorry for getting to your ask so late! tumblr has not been showing me notifications anymore (unless it's bots) and yours seems to have gotten lost in all that.

Hey, so if you have Windows 11 installed and have been losing your mind over the fact that you can't find your own files because Windows is now prioritizing internet search results first, you can fix it by following this guide:

As someone with over 900 GB of intentionally and properly named files on her computer (I do a lot of digital art and digital media work that requires high-volume files that function off of dependencies), this feature was making me furious. I followed the above instructions and can confirm that the method outlined solves the problem.

Firealpaca update (Ver 2.11.12) + website

FireAlpaca Ver 2.11.12 + website update

( 2023/11/21 )

  • Fixed an issue where some data could be corrupted when saving an MDP file in some environments.
  • You can now edit the canvas while the brush editing dialog is displayed (Windows)
  • Fixed an issue with the color history check status in the window menu.
  • Supports clipboard copying of multiple layers (new creation and pasting from the clipboard now support multiple layers)
  • Fixed an issue where the navigator display would sometimes collapse during time-lapse recording.

The devteam also updated the look of the website! Many helpful links and downloads are more visible now and the site looks more compact. The new site banner features different images and art depending on the topic, and the main page features a video in the background.

Is there a way to bend text in Firealpaca?

Avatar

Hello. Unfortunately, no :(

You can create a text, then dulicate that layer and via Layer menu, convert the copy into a normal layer. Then, that normal layer, depending on the length of the text, you can make into parts and finally, those parts you can bend via the transform options Firealpaca, for example cage transform. Hope this helps.

Personally, I make the bent text in other software, like Inkscape, because vector methods would allow for me to change the text in more ways.

  • Added L version and 2L version (Japanese photo size) to newly created templates.
  • It is now possible to display a "dark checkered pattern" when using a transparent background (View menu).
  • Added mm to grid settings.

Glaze is out!

Tired of having your artwork used for AI training but find watermarks dismaying and ineffective?

Well check this out! Software that makes your Art look messed up to training AIs and unusable in a data set but nearly unchanged to human eyes.

I just learned about this. It's in Beta. Please read all the information before using.

Art thieves already hate it:

Dude, if you're stealing, you deserve to have the data poisoned. Because you could have asked and you didn't.

The link is only in the original post inside an image, not as text, so here it is as plain text: https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/ and the paper about how it works: https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.04222

A bit of a TLDR for some questions I saw in the notes:

The team that created Glaze is from the University of Chicago. Their names are each listed in full on the Glaze download website. (This group of students/professors did this for their SPRING BREAK 😱 so go give them some love lol)

It is free to download. No, they won’t ask for or raise money from/for this project.(stated by one of the lead professors of the project).

Glaze is designed to protect artists’ STYLE--which a bunch of ai people have been deliberately fine-tuning their models to mimic (and specifically of current living artists--small or big).

It currently does not protect against composition/trace-like theft (as seen when run through img-to-img) but that would be protected by copyright anyway while STYLE is not.

The University Team has stated that they are dedicated to continuing to improve the tool, like fixing bugs (like overheating older computers by taking up lots of energy when Glazing--it currently runs on CPU so they’re trying to change that to GPU, I believe) and expanding the type of protection given to artists (like working against img-to-img theft).

It currently only works directly on your computer (phones not advised due to current overheating issue, no tablets, or iPads, and no website runthrough since that would be insecure to breaches/scraping/hacks)

It currently works best on painterly artwork, but can still be used on other forms (team is working on improving this)

IT WORKS BY calculating the changes each image needs for the best protection against style theft by AI, and adds tiny changes throughout the piece, so that your style will, for example, confuse the ai into seeing van gogh. But the ai thieves will see a regular image in your style, feeding it into their model labeled as your work (thus starting the “data poisoning”).

Do not post the original unGlazed piece of your artwork after posting your Glazed version (obviously)

The Team worked directly with over 1,000 artists that were being impacted by the ai theft. Because the team listened to those artists, Glaze accounts for regular art thieves too (i.e. Glaze can’t be removed/cropped etc. like signatures or watermarks when reposted. It’s just part of the image, so even if it ends up on another site and scraped, the Glazing is still in effect)

When you run your artwork through Glaze, no information is sent back to the Team. (Aka, no scraping on their part. The app receives information from the Team (like updates) but no information from you is given to them through the app. Basically Team servers ---> You and NOT Team servers <--->You) One-way data street.

Brief misunderstanding happened over an open-source license for the front-end part of the app. (Used open-source coding for front-end, not knowing that code’s use-license states it is only for other open-source uses, not closed-source (the back-end code of the app is private to prevent counter-counter measure developments)). The Team took down the app until they replaced the front-end code with code written from scratch by the team. They are now not in violation of that open-source license since they are no longer using it. (you have 30 days to remedy a license breach once informed; they did so in 2)

The Team is currently in touch with Japanese artists to better expand the tool for use to protect their art styles

From what I understand of it, Glaze is an AI tool designed to be anti-AI (Think Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2: one Terminator robot vs. all the other Terminators 😂)

You can download it from their website and also contact them through email there with any questions, problems, or bugs. The website: https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/
