Chipped Tooth Press is a writing collective which seeks to instill a love of poetry in even the most relentless naysayers. NEW CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Hi y’all! We hope you are loving the latest issue of Insert Lit Mag Here as much as we are!! We have a fun new project that we want to share with you! We are currently working on our 2016 chapbook slate, but in addition to that we are opening submissions for a new zine!

“What I’m Trying To Say Is: a collection of love letters”

We are publishing a collection of love letters! We want to read yours!! send us your most sincere, disgustingly gushy, and delightfully naive letters. We want to be able to feel how passionate you are. There’s no shame in feeling fully and honestly. The whole point of this project is embracing sincerity!! You think you sound like a sap? GOOD!! Share that with us!!

Here are some of our guidelines/general info.

We won’t be publishing the names of who your letters are too, for general privacy reasons and because publishing other people’s names without their consent is fucking creepy. Feel free to send us the unedited version, including their name. We’ll change it to (REDACTED) before it ever sees the light of day!

The love letters do not have to be poems in any way! But poems will be accepted as submissions!

Submissions can be any length up to 1500 words! (you don’t have to actually count the words but please for the love of god don’t send us something that is five pages long.)

Sadly we are unable to pay our writers right now because we are all college students who make barely livable amounts of money. We will mail out contributor copies to anyone who’s submission is accepted! We are sorry!

We are using the word “letter” incredibly loosely. Have a text message that feels like a love letter to you? send it to us. An email? A diary entry? perfect!!!

We heavily want to encourage writers who identify as anything other than white cishet men to submit. We have zero desire as a press to publish works that are dominated by cishet white men. Doing so is racist and incredibly boring. So if you aren’t a white cishet man, please submit!! We want to hear from you!

All submissions should be emailed as attachments (google doc or word doc please! your submission will not be disqualified if it isn’t but this makes our lives easier!) to Josephjohnbarchi (at) gmail.com!

Submissions are open as of today! They will remain open until August 10th. You can send any questions to the email listed above!! We can’t wait to read your submissions and share the finished product with you this fall!!

reminder: submissions open until April 1st

We are still accepting submission for our first post-hiatus issue of Insert! The reading period for our May issue is January 10th to April 1st (work submitted outside of the reading period will not be considered). We’re looking for your poetry, prose, and visual art for this new issue. We’re also going to be selling print copies of our issues now. (More info of this to come, but contributors will receive 2 free copies). If you’ve forgotten what type of work we like, here’s a little refresher. Insert Lit Mag Here seeks to publish work from all over the Internet. We want to accept a high caliber of work without being elitists, finding a balance between established and emerging writers. As always, we look for work that bares its teeth created by artists who are willing to allow it to do so. We have also decided to hold the first ever Chipped Tooth Press writing contest. All writing submissions for this new issue of Insert will be considered. The prize is $75 (payable through paypal) and a feature with an interview in the May issue. Send all submissions as attachments to writenowsubmit@gmail.com. With your submission please include a short bio and mail address (for sending copies of the magazine should your work be accepted).

New Assistant Editors

There are so many new things in the works with Chipped Tooth Press right now, but something I’m really excited to talk about is that we now have two assistant editors, Joseph Barchi and Kevin Popovich!

Joseph Barchi @theyarenotaboy is a genderqueer  writer who was born and raised in Rhode Island. Their personal essays have been featured on buzzfeed ideas in the past. When they aren’t writing about boys, they can be found tweeting about Waxhatchee and astrology (They are a Pisces sun, Leo rising, Taurus moon.), and also probably boys. They can be found on Twitter @theyarenotaboy

Kevin Popovich @wolfandwoodsman lives in Providence and thinks only of escape, the clock is winding ever towards the end of what short life has been provided. He has begun digging a sequence of tunnels beneath the city and hopes to make contact with the crust-dwelling slug lords in order to bargain for the secret of their immortality. Wish him well by finding him on twitter @beetstain

new issue? do people still remember that we exist?

With my (@juliaalexanderpoetry) life being sort of crazy with going back to school and all of the Chipped Tooth Press stuff that happened last year, this blog and Insert in general sort of fell to the side and wasn’t a priority for me. I really regret that happening because I love working on this mag so much, and I still really believe in the work we were doing. So, I was thinking of maybe opening submissions for a summer issue, and then going on to publish just one or two issues per year. Would that be something any of you would be interested in doing? Things are still in the very first stages. I’m not really thinking big picture yet or getting too far ahead of myself. I would just really like to know if there is any interest in this.

A Worship. is a loosely strung together narrative about the manic anxiety that comes with being in an abusive relationship, and the healing and survival that takes place when you leave one. In A Worship, Barchi provides deeply personal and honest insights as the reader watches them grow throughout the work.

A Worship. by Joseph Barchi (new chapbook release)

A Worship. which is Joseph Barchi (theyarenotaboy)’s first poetry release is coming out online tomorrow, July 31st (!!!!!) with Chipped Tooth Press (!!!!).

According to Joseph, “This is a very autobiographical work for me and it directly parallels what my past nine months have looked like. I am grateful to be able to share my pain and healing in a way that I hope might help and inspire others.”

Sex & Death is Alyssa Montgomery’s (immature-romanticism) first chapbook of poetry. It presents snapshots of repression and abuse at the hands of the patriarchy. It touches on absent dads, looming gods, and the issues that arise from both speaking up and staying quiet.

Alyssa is an obsessive student of American Studies and English at Wheaton College. She wrote so many papers about sex, death, and religion in American literature this year that she started spewing it out as poetry. These poems come from both her sacred heart and her damned soul. Other than writing morose poetry, Alyssa enjoys drinking Franzia and reading Stephen Crane.

This is our last poetry month release! A Giant In This House is juliaalexanderpoetry ‘s attempt at making sense of things. She draws connections from her current situation to her childhood. While the order of these poems at first seems random, eventually it becomes obvious that this is a re-telling of a re-telling. Not only is it about things that happened, “A Giant In This House” also explains what it feels like to talk about traumatic experiences and how that can be traumatic in its own right.

We’re happy to welcome someone new to Chipped Tooth Press! René Pellissier (mongolianbananas) is is a Junior Creative Writing major at the New Hampshire Institute of art. Her work has been featured in Insert Lit Mag Here and Ayris, the Literary Arts Journal of the New Hampshire Institute of Art. She writes both poetry and prose, though poetry is currently where her heart is. She grew up in Northern CT and was raised on sarcasm, and alcoholic cherries.

In her release I am Born -Early  she investigates what it means to experience religion, sexuality, and family dynamics as a young person.

Feeling blue because we don’t have any new poetry up today? Catch up on some old work by juliaalexanderpoetry

Julia Alexander is a poet from northern Connecticut. Much of her work thus far has focused on sexual violence, womanhood, and coming into a sexuality through those two lenses. Julia has a book of poetry out called The Dirt I Rise From, a handful of chapbooks and zines online and in print, and a spoken word album called Accepting the Facts. She started Insert Lit Mag Here and was its literary editor throughout its run in 2014. Subsequently, she started and continues to run this humble press. Julia plans on writing until she runs out of things to say. That hasn't happened yet, but she hopes it will soon.

PICTURES I TOOK WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING AND OTHER WAYS I HAVE SAID I LOVE YOU was supposed to be a Valentine's Day gift (guess who it was for). It’s a small and mushy chap about learning to let go of expectations.

THE BRAKE ISN’T ON YOUR SIDE OF THE CAR chronicles both a gain of and loss of control.
