So you wanna start reading Green Arrow and Arrow comics - a primer

If you've never bought a comic book in your life, or if it's been years since you have, and you're now interested in Green Arrow and Arrow comics, here's everything you need to know about them.

First of all: these are two different books.

GREEN ARROW

Green Arrow is part of the main DC line, and it's an on-going monthly title currently in their 34th issue [released this month, August]. September is a special issue month for the entire DC line, but starting in October with the release of Green Arrow #35, the book will be written by Arrow showrunner Andrew Kreisberg and writer/producer Ben Sokolowski.

It's NOT a tie-in to the TV show. It's not supposed to match the show either. A couple of examples of the differences, the story is set in Seattle instead of Starling City, and Oliver has a sister called Emiko, instead of Thea. The new writers plan on bringing characters from Arrow into the book, but please, do keep in mind these are not exact copies of what they are and do on the show. Diggle is already part of the book, has been for about a year now. Felicity is supposed to be added to the story in October, and according to this article, so is Malcolm Merlyn.

Release schedule: DC monthly comics come out on Wednesdays, in both print and digital versions. Green Arrow comes out the first Wednesday of every month, so be on the look out for #35 on October 1st, #36 on November 5, and so on every first Weds.

ARROW: SEASON 2.5

The Arrow comic is part of DC Comics' Digital First line, and IS a tie-in to the show, meaning the setting and the characters in this book are the exact same as the ones from the TV show. The first run was tied to season 1 of Arrow, and basically consisted of a bunch of extra stories that added to what happened on screen in S1.

The Arrow: Season 2.5 comics are the second run of this book, and they'll cover the events between seasons 2 and 3 of the show. This book is gonna be written by showrunner Marc Guggenheim and writer Keto Shimizu.

Release schedule: as the name suggests, Digital First comics come out in digital form before they're released in print form. Three digital issues make up one print issue to be released the following month. Usually Digital Firsts are weekly releases, but in this case, Arrow: Season 2.5 and Flash: Season Zero will alternate Mondays, so we'll get a new Arrow digital issue every 2 weeks starting Monday, September 1st. The first print issue comes out on Wednesday, October 8.

WHERE TO PURCHASE THESE COMICS

. IN DIGITAL FORM: at readdcentertainment.com, comixology.com, or on your mobile gadgets via the DC Comics app, the iBookstore, Nook store, or Kindle store.

. IN PRINT FORM: at your Local Comic Shop, if you're near one. Here's a handy Comic Shop Locator. If you don't have a LCS near you, Things From Another World [TFAW] is a reliable site that I've used for years. You can also purchase a yearly subscription straight from DC Comics for Green Arrow if you want to.

I hope that clear things up! :)

Deep inside the heart of this troubled man There's an itty bitty boy tugging hard at your hand Born bitter as a lemon, but you must understand That you've been bringing me joy And I'll only lie when you don't want the truth I'm only frightened 'cause you finally gave me something to lose And it's as loud as a thunderclap, and you hear it too But you've been bringing me joy
