One day I'll Fly away

I don't post like I should. That's okay, because the universe doesn't really care either way so I'm gonna take my time.

the way how to train your dragon completely ruined my internal scale for good and unique dragon design for the rest of time

dreamworks was confronted with 2 really important questions regarding creature design in how to train your dragon. one: “how do we make the dragon scary but loveable?” two: “how do we make the dragon- a creature that’s nearly a millennia old- fresh…but still recognizable as a dragon?” and they literally just went “cat” and it WORKED

Well, that’s only true for Toothless. Since the beginning, they knew they wanted their dragons to be different. They didn’t want to make a lot of oversized lizards with bat wings and forked tongues. So they let Nico Marlet (the character designer) and other artists go crazy.

They had dragons with several eyes, lots of heads, rounder,  sleezier, looking like any kind of animals… Then, they rounded it up to the different species that we can see in the movie.

This is from Chris Sanders, one of the directors!

They also had to make dragons believable as predators and with a cute side too. That’s why they mixed characteristics, movements and behaviours from existing animals, mostly pets (Nadders and parrots, Gronckles and dogs, etc.).

Toothless’ design was really tricky because of the same reason. They wanted him to look intimidating and scary, but also friendly and curious. His behaviour is based on a cat from someone of the team, who adapted the playful ways of his kitty to a panther-like dragon.

The HTTYD dragon designs are that good because of all the work and care behind the scenes. I know some people think the dragons are too cartoony for that world, but most of us agree that is the mix of unique designs with animal behaviours what makes all those dragons remarkable.

you know what? accents are actually lovely. like you can learn all the languages in the world and you still have a part of your own with you. that’s cute

complete silence is more distracting than background noise and you can fight me on this

let me explain, if I don’t have background noise my brain will make it’s own background noise and Brain Background Noise is infinitely more distracting than Regular Background Noise

“I think the experience gap between a 19 year old and a 35 year old is too large to result in a healthy romantic relationship without a power imbalance,” I say.

I pause.

“But of course I’d date a 3,000 year old shapeshifting dragon demi-god if the opportunity arose. Why do you ask?”

Large gaps in the first few years of young adulthood: eek… I recognize that you’re an adult and have a right to make your own decisions but please please please be cautious and think very critically about why your partner isn’t dating someone with more life under their belt, don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice enforcing your boundaries and remember your first obligation is to yourself

Large age gaps after several years of adult independence and self-discovery: use your best judgement, I might raise an eyebrow but I’ll trust you to know what you want and what works for you on an individual basis

Large age gaps when one partner is an ancient supernatural dragon god or some shit: 😎 YOLO don’t get et

I’m sorry but these tags are an excellent addition to this post

Did you get pictures of the centipede 0:

I DID.....thats the centipede on the right moments before my phone died....! the one next to it on the left is a MILLIPEDE, which looks pretty close but theres some key differences.........................

obviously these arent hard and fast rules ( look at the pink dragon millipede for a very sharp lookin guy ) but if you have trouble telling two apart it might be useful ! this lil guys way too small to be worrisome bitewise but the large ones get pretty hefty this is a stone centipede species, which means its often found wedged under flat stones ( or underneath tree bark, which is where i found this one! ) - my favorites are the soil species because they get LONG

its like a little dragon

Oh btw Yzma is a golden example of a likeable non sympathetic villain. The audience knows she is totally evil and pretty much un redeemable but the writers and character designers did such an excellent job of making her so likeable and visually appealing A fucking plus

Kronks redemption arc has yet to be rivaled nothing can ever fucking compare.

OP did u just fucking call Yzma “visually appealing”?????

In terms of character design Yzma is visually appealing, the artists did a great job picking out colours and perfecting her silhouette. Using those design principles, they created an expressive villain that is fun to watch on screen.

op is absolutely right in that observation, good character design is about good use of shapes, curves and angles. Yzma is a fantastic example of that.

A d we can’t sideline Eartha Kitt for literally breathing life into her character to the point of perfection. Yzma was really was an exemplary villain.

‘visually appealing’ does not equal ‘want to fuck them’
