Me: Wow, the Netflix ATLA was better than what I expected. Indeed, it felt too rushed, probably because they were asked to do only 8 episodes like everything in the platform; but they were still able to capture the feeling of the original, and it was an enjoyable show. Not to mention the effects, those were so well done, especially Zuko fire kicks, I loved those.

Me: *checks internet opinions*

Me: Oh... I'm supposed to hate this adaptation.

Kataang 1

This one turned out much longer than I expected so I’ve put it below a cut. Enjoy.

“Can I kiss you?”

He’s smiling at her and she can’t help but smile back, the corner of her mouth quirking. She continues to stand, her fingers now worrying at the end of her still damp braid and she can see the confused tilt of his eyebrows as he stares at her.

Kataang 100 Drabble: Spirits

Prompt: Spirits Words:100

It was probably the rice wine talking. Or maybe the clear floral smelling liquor that had been sweet on her lips but burned a path down her throat.

“You have very pretty eyes.”

She feels the deep rumble of his laugh through his chest. His puff of breath is hot against her cheek. Her head feels heavy and his shoulder is an inviting pillow regardless of its sharp angle.

“You smell nice.”

“You smell drunk,” Aang replies as he cups Katara’s cheek and tips her head up, their gazes meeting. He smiles at her, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

whatever - cultural differences (for kataang) please!

Send me a “Whatever” and I’ll write whatever you ask for

“So… this was normal back then?”

“Back when I was a kid? Yeah, it was. At least for my people,” Aang shrugs and the silk of the bed sheets ripples beneath him. She gently slaps his shoulder at the movement and clucks her tongue.

“I still can’t believe you’re letting me do this,” Katara answers, shifting slightly from where she is straddled over his hips.

“I trust you,” Aang murmurs, his head falling back into the comfortable crook of his arms. The once hesitant movement of her hands is now a strong rhythm as she presses pin pricks of ink into his skin.

“Still,” she says, dabbing at his skin with a rag to take away droplets of blood, “it’s a little bit strange. I could be writing anything on your back.”

“You wouldn’t though.”

“No, you’re right,” Katara laughs softly. “Just my name, like you asked.”

“Getting married wasn’t something everyone did,” Aang explains drowsily, the tapping of the needle lulling him to sleep. “Not everyone could… the nuns… monks. So they did this. To have someone’s name on you forever… there was no going back.” There is a long moment of silence and Katara is sure he’s fallen asleep beneath her until his sighs and peers at her blearily over his shoulder. “I want to do it to you one day. I love you.”

Katara smiles, her eyes staying on the blossoming tattoo beneath her hands. “I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Here is the secret to fandom:

Give zero fucks about what anyone else is doing.

Seriously.  I mean it.  Because inevitably you will love something that no one else loves.  Or you will love something that everyone loves and people will shit all over it because it’s “so trite and unimaginative and done.” Or you will love something that no one else has ever heard of.  Or you will love something dark and edgy and or obscure and people will roll their eyes and say, “What, do you want people to think you’re dark and edgy and obscure?”

Alternatively, you will not love the thing that everyone else loves, and you will wonder what precisely is wrong with you that the sight of that thing is aggravating the shit out of you now when the whole world sings its praises as one.

People will irritate you.  They’ll irritate you with headcanons that make no sense and misinterpretations of canon.  They will make the same jokes 500 times.  They will overwhelm your corner of fandom with something you either are tired of hearing about or don’t care about.  They will post art that isn’t theirs.  You will meet people who think you are the greatest person ever and bombard you with messages  only to wander off when they find someone new or shinier; you will meet people whom you admire and who do not really seem to notice you exist.

So give zero fucks about it.  Seriously.  Like what you like, blacklist what you need to blacklist, and ignore everything else.  Be friends, play nice, enjoy it.  And in the meantime, just do you.  Like what you like, love what you love, and to hell with all the rest of it.

I enjoyed NATLA and I’m not apologising. Sometimes tv just has to be tv guys and doesn’t have to be deep and can just be something mindless to switch off from the never ending abyss that is life.

And my favourite line was “I’m gonna kill the moon” unironically.
