okay so some of you my have noticed i haven’t been very active here ( i dont know how i keep gaining followers when even my queue’s run out but thanks for dropping in guys ) AND ITS NOT THAT I’VE LOST MY FINN MUSE. i still love finn with all my heart!!!! and lord help me i want to do so many things on him but like right now, my JEAN GREY muse is so???? needy guys idk. i feel like i have to get her out of my system first so that’s where i’ve been for a while. i’ll get better about balancing all my blogs once the feeling’s dissipated! trust me, i love all of you, i am in the finn tag religiously even while on jean, and im ready to come back for some drift compatible spaces babes.

here’s the thing : if the circumstances were different – if he wasn’t being so careful – poe might say something bordering ambiguously risqué like i bet you do. but those are the words of a twenty-year-old he’s long since left behind him, and finn matters more than that. a lot more. deserves a lot better. so, he holds the comment back, even if his stupidity in not being able to come up with something better to say briefly pains him.
not for the first time, he thinks this would be easier if finn could just hear the way poe’s heart rate picks up around him ; but that would be more threatening, too.
( for someone who half-prides himself on his smart mouth – no, not like that,but that too– knowing he’s more likely to trip over his tongue and embarrass himself in front of finn is possibly one of the worse things that could have happened. second only to knowing he might just scare finn away if he said everything he was thinking. no one ever warns you about how having too much love to give away is a double-edged sword until it’s already happened. )

that’s still a little ambiguous in its meaning, too, but it’s not as bad as what he almost said. sounds a little less like a line written by someone he isn’t, and the earnest flicker in poe’s gaze ( looking for – what? encouragement? approval? ) is testament enough to the genuineness.

and though the words try at being deadpan, carrying the corners of ruefulness in the tilt of his lips and the stress points of the sentiment, one cannot deny that poe’s limitless faith in finn has led them to this moment. he wonders what would have happened if poe had decided finn couldn’t be trusted. would he have been able to escape?
would he have been able to find rey, to start the downhill tumblr off the edge of this cliff, the one that separates the resistance and the first order. would he have made it out of the finalizer alive at all? he imagines having been sent through re-conditioning, imagines the horror stories and tools they use to make you comply and finn’s nearly knocked sideways with how much he means it.
( && how wondrous is it that somone like poe exists? that someone can look into the eyes of an enemy and see beyond the face he has to wear, can see his heart for what it is: that of a young man who’s desperate to find a home that’s not here. to take that leap of faith, is it any wonder that he flies? )
instead, he just takes a deep breath, glances down at their near empty plates and cocks his head to the side. raised eyebrows as if to say, you almost done? but those aren’t the words that come out. rather, it’s ❝what do you have planned for the rest of the day?❞
