"Freedom brings all to ruin in time," Bane's champion once told him.

And it feels like a lifetime ago when she said that.

And maybe she was right.

And as FCG - Letters, Fresh Cut Grass, Faithful Care Giver - who was blessed with many names, graced with happy memories, and gifted a second chance at a life well loved... as this little aeormaton sees his fallen friends, he thinks that makes sense.

There is no code, no programming, no hardware strong enough to keep him from this. And that must be freedom. He refuses to believe otherwise.

Because given the choice, he would always choose them.

Wait. What does it mean if FCG can't come back - on a technical level not a narrative one?

Matt has to come up with a better reason for FCG not being able to come back. Because otherwise, is there an implication that FCG can't come back because he doesn't have a soul?

We know he has that.

Is it that his body was blown to pieces? Technically, you don't need a body to reincarnate.

What reason could Matthew give that would bar FCG from coming back to life while at the same time acknowleding that he must reside in the existence beyond death because he has a soul. (And at the same time say that even if they could technically ressurect him, they can't.)

420 days. FCG made it 420 real world days before blowing himself up.

We all knew it. I’m surprised he made it over a year really.

If anything, last night's episode is very much affirming my point that DnD or TTRPGs in general is very much not just a rules as written to play game

You very much have to play your GM as well

Haggling, bribing, or sweeping them away with hype can swing the GM in your favor

But! Player beware! For the GM, the game has always been the players. So they can balance out any bargain anyway they please

FRIDA shared a dream with someone on Ruidus?!?

When we met FRIDA, he talked about dreaming of a child that looked at Exandria from the outside? From below looking up? (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Did FRIDA connect with someone's mind on Ruidus? The way the Ruidus folk connect to Exandrian dreams? If so, what does that mean???

Do aeormatons dream of electric wookors?!?

And why did FRIDA connect but not FCG? Is it tied to FRIDA being one of the aeormatons tasked with protecting the god-killing machine?

they can do sending now bc part of the moon plan was to sick predathos on the gods

and to do that, they need to have the gods accessible

which means, ludinus cant have that pesky divine gate in the way

by chipping away at the gate, the leylines unfuck a little so sending happens

thats my theory at least

Re: FCG'S Banishment and how cool it is

This is an example of an IRL Charisma Saving Throw. Sam was just so persuasive that he caused Matt to overlook the exact text of the spell, and rule in his favor. That's a genuine human error due to a potent combination of the sheer hype of the situation and just Sam MF Reigel being too cool, which is its own Nat20.

The lesson to learn here is: You can play the Game and you can play the Game Master, and both will serve you well.

Question: what spell is FCG using to make mental connections with everyone? Because if its Telepathic Bond, that shit timed out ages ago. So it has to be something else right? I know that he recasted it once they landed in Ruidus but they've been traveling for over an hour to reach Rezora

OK SO LIKE

On one hand, rule of cool - FCG and Fearne get away using banishment

And I get that Matt got caught in the hype of the moment so he let them have it

But Matthew, darling, people can't self Banish themselves bc the moment they do, they break concentration - which means Banishment undoes itself. Nevermind that if FCG concentrates on Banishment, he cant concentrate on turning to a cloud.

For the rule of cool and the purposes of my immersion, I'm gonna say that FCG is a computer and he can run programs in the background because rule of cool

All That Said. I feel like the plot armor might have robbed Fearnie with a chance for some character development? I genuinely wanted to see how she would react to killing FCG by her hand. I also kinda wanted to know what that looks like. Her amazing new fire powers havent been tapped enough.

But the trade off to not losing FCG is that they somehow found this magical backdoor to Ruidus. So like I'm hyyyyped

There is a Rule #0 for D&D and Pathfinder.

Rule #0 is that any rule can be overridden by the GM for any reason.

And honestly? He is playing this game with his best friends. For all that FCG (and Sam) annoys Matt with Flat Exandria... I think that Matt decided to ignore the rules so his friends would continue having a good time.

That's the most important thing about roleplaying games: having a good time. Rules need not apply for getting in the way with a good time. Nor is this the first time I've heard of Banish being used this way. Other players in other games have used this spell to escape in the past.

Which I gave him... As I said within the start of my post, I know he let them have it

I reply in good faith that you are a reasonable person who is enjoying the show as much as I

Acknowledging the trade offs to Matt's decision of letting them have it is not an inherently negative statement and nor was that my authorial intent as I am sure you read my whole post, I even mention that I'm hyped

There is a trade off to Matt's decision to let them have it, that's it. Safe travels friend

We are all of us fans. :) Sleep well, friend.

Okay. I looked up the rules for Banishment. And while the rules of Banishment do state you are Incapacitated while Banished... the rules for entering the Cloud Form of the Wind Walk spell does not state it's an action to initiate. Leaving the Cloud Form takes an action but the specific rules do not specify or directly state the alternative is true. (And I think an incapacitated person can still Concentrate on a spell, or at least Incapacitate doesn't state you lose Concentration.) (As an aside, Wind Walk itself renders the person Incapacitated while transforming from or to the cloud form.)

So by Rule of Law... technically it's allowed.

One other note... Matt worked hard to take out FCG. I think Sam was getting really low on hit points at the end. And if he was actually taking it easy on the group, he'd not have stated that the Shadow Clones have magical attacks that do full damage. So Matt didn't give them anything. He looked at the rules, saw that technically it was allowed, and left it at that.

Otohan herself didn't remain there because there was a more important target she needed to find: Imogen. And the moment her copies reported the return of the two Hells she had on hand, she immediately jumped to return to the scene... and had probably been trying to convince the two "lost sheep" that Imogen was the traitor. Don't forget, Imogen rolled really well for her Deception checks. They most likely didn't immediately tell Otohan what was going on because they thought she was the traitor.

Thank you for looking that up. I appreciate the engagement.

Unfortunately the matter of concentration is explained under spell rulles. "You lose concentration on a spell if you are incapacitated or if you die."

So alternatively...

We can simply not consider this Banishment 5e. We could just say this is FCG's Banishment like all those other spells that have people's names - Tasha's Hideous Laughter, etc. That's fun

True. Hmm.

Well, I guess Matt admired the... creative utilization of that spell. Or maybe Matt just decided that if you self-banish, you're not struggling against the spell because otherwise there's no point on using Banishment on yourself. You'd not even be able to escape a different plane of existence as you need to Concentrate on it for a full minute to get the "boop back home" aspect.

(It's fun chatting rules with folks. I appreciate your patience and hopeful enjoyment! And I don't get the chance with my own group as we play Pathfinder 1e and one player absolutely detests any edition beyond 3.5.)

Oh yeah, he absolutely let them have it. He was looking up the spell when Sam put out the idea.

I mean, he doesnt need to concentrate to get home. He needs to concentrate to stay away from home.

But it is a creative idea and if the rule of cool convinces Matt then thats it

I wonder if theyll end up using this again

(chatting about dnd is the only way i get my ttrpg fix nowadays, im sadly bereft of playtime)
