W-wHy not.” His voice cracks and he stops himself from saying anything else. Stay cool. Count to ten.
Keep your head, Cal. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Deep breathes. He can show her that he can be calm, that he can change.

❛ because neither of us can. we can’t    go back to what we were. ❜

the truth hurt, but it had to be said -- there was no reversing what they’d done, the people they’d slaughtered. they were MONSTERS -- tainted now. but daisy  didn’t know the full extent, & jiaying was prepared to do anything to keep it that way -- even get cal out of the picture.

❛ i want you to leave. ❜

a different path || jiaying & raina

When she’d finished with her name, Raina started to decorate the surrounding canvas. Flowers, zig-zagging patterns and swirls. In the bottom corner, she found herself painting a small house. But it seemed empty, and so beside it, she started adding people. Calvin came first–or as close as she could come to his likeness with a stick figure and blue paint–then Jiaying holding Daisy, and then beside the three, herself. The child frowned deeply at the four blue figures. They all looks so similar, but that wasn’t how things were in real life. So she reached out and stuck her fingers in the tub of red paint, and tried to color over herself, making it stand out from the other three. But the blue paint hadn’t dried yet, and how typical, all she succeeded in doing was producing an ugly purplish smear across the canvas. That was when she started getting upset.
By the time Jiaying had re-entered the room, the canvas and surrounding tarp were covered in red paint. Furious little red handprints had been stamped all over the blue designs, etching or smearing them out so that they were barely recognizable. Skulls, tiny yelling figures, fists with angry faces, and an alarming variety of curse words now littered then girl’s painting, and Raina herself was slapping the canvas with increasing force and sending paint flying, very nearly on the verge of tears.
She sprang up as Jiaying put down the tray, bristling. This was her fault! Stupid Jiaying with her hugs, and her stupid painting, and her big fake smiles– coming in here with her sandwiches, pretending everything was just fine when it wasn’t. Like she cared. Like they were the same. Angrily, Raina swung hard and kicked the tray over onto the floor, sending sandwiches and yogurt sprawling in a huge sticky mess.
“I. DON’T. WANT. ANY!” she screamed. “Can’t you see it doesn’t work?! Th-the colors don’t go together, because the people don’t go together! It doesn’t fit! We don’t fit! It’s not- It doesn’t- I HATE PAINTING.” And with that she sprinted out, running up to her bedroom and slammed the door as hard as she could, before flopping down on her bed and bursting into tears.

really, she should’ve picked up on the tense mood  settling in the room when she entered,  & she moved back when raina kicked the tray to the floor. before jiaying can try to calm her down or soothe her, the young girl runs off to her room. looking at the painting, jiaying sighed softly -- asking cal to clean up when he ran in, seeing what the commotion was.

they all understood that this would be hard, when she fostered raina. everything would be hard, but it would be worth it because they’d be giving her another shot at  life, with loving parents & a family. so she wouldn’t give up on her, raina was family now. standing outside her bedroom door, hearing the tiny sobs broke her heart & two gentle knocks on the door followed.

raina ---- may i come in? ❜

Personal Season 2 Finale Headcanon

I found this image while updating the SHIELD archives (decided to keep at it, still lots of Marvel fun to be had even if I’m pissed at AOS) and this image sparked an idea for my own version of what happened in the finale.

Without my knowledge of what happens in the episode, I would have looked at this and thought Jiaying is trying to save Skye. So that’s what I’m gonna go with. Skye is caught in the crossfire of the fight, and Jiaying reverses her healing ability in order to bring Skye back from death. Only in the process of doing so, because that’s not how her power is supposed to work, she burns herself out and dies in her daughter’s place.

There, same “status quo” for going into Season 3 (because really, do you honestly think they’ll ever bother to go over this again when they don’t go back on any other traumatic events?), but a much more satisfactory character development between Skye and Jiaying.
