We have seen anima depicted multiple times in the manga when they’re not inhabiting a body, just by themselves. They’re shown as a white, ethereal silhouette. Blanca I think is the most obvious example of this. 

So what about this moment here? Cooro’s anima is obviously still in his body, yet Shadow catches a glimpse of this same white silhouette. Shadow was able to sense, just for a second, Cooro’s anima.

We know that Cooro can sense anima all the time. What if Cooro sees the kind of example above when he senses an anima? The anima’s silhouette surrounding the owner’s body.
