PEETA IS KATNISS’ ROCK

Peetas name is obviously an alternative spelling of ‘pita bread’, because he’s a baker and all. But the name Peeta is a variation of the name Peter, which originated from the word ‘rock’ in Greek. And this is so symbolic because Peeta is Katniss’ rock, and is throughout all of the series. She even hints at it in the first hunger games where she says “I’m glad now I have Peeta to clutch for balance; he is so steady, solid as a rock (thg,85)”

To Katniss, Peeta has always been a solid presence in her life. He’s always there for her, no matter what. He might have been having a bad day, but if he hears that Katniss is also having a bad day, he’ll put his feelings aside and comfort her, put her feelings before his. And he’s always done that.

On the train on the Victory Tour, they share a bed every night, and he comforts her after every nightmare she has, and holds and strokes her hair until she falls back asleep, yet, he never asks her to reciprocate. He wakes up from nightmares also, but he never wakes her up and takes that prescious sleep away from her, even if it is only 5 minutes before she wakes from another nightmare, he never wakes her up. He puts Katniss before himself time and time again.

Even when he comes back to D12 for the first time since the war and his hijacking, hes still obviously trying to work through all of the memories, shiny or not, and sort things out, but he plants the Primrose for Katniss, because he knows she’s also going through things. He’s always there for her, no questions asked. He’s a constant in her life.

He’s her rock.

Sis was really having wet dreams about zaddy Peeta after that kiss on the beach and subconsciously declared herself the baby mama because she refused to acknowledge/imagine/dream anyone else. Katniss was running solo in her own version of f*ck around and find out 😭

katniss getting peeta’s help for her family book??? getting lost staring at his hands and at his face as he sketches??? her fixating on his eyelashes and describing the exact color they look in the sunlight??? SHE’S DOWN BAD AND DOESN’T EVEN REALIZE IT OH MY GOD.

I can't stop thinking about, "This would've happened anyway," and the actual tragedy that lies beneath that. At the end of Mockingjay, Katniss knows she and Peeta would've fallen in love no matter what. No matter what. They didn't fall in love because of their circumstances but in spite of them. These two kids should've fallen in love on their own terms, in their own time, but that was stolen from them.

Their natural, inevitable love was taken and twisted at every turn. Their love was exploited. It was used to terrorize and oppress them. And guess what? They fell in love anyway. They did, they did, they did.

At the end of the series, Katniss and Peeta reclaim the love they would've had for each other regardless. They reclaim their life together and their future together. The one they should've been allowed to have. They are traumatized. They are burned and scarred, but they are in love, the girl from the Seam and the boy with the bread. Despite it all, they end up exactly where they were always meant to be.

Yes, but as people have said in their tags, I don’t think he had expectations about what that relationship would look like (maybe he isn’t even fully sure himself what he wants it to look like, now that there’s the freedom to start over). But she’s all he has left: of course he wants to be with her, in whatever way she’ll have him. Besides, she said “stay with me” and he promised “always” so he’s going to keep that promise. 🥺

Definitely but to what extent can be played around with. He knows now that prior to the hijacking he was okay with not being "the one" although Katniss in her own discovery and confusion was sending mixed signals. Still there lingered a hope for Peeta but most of all that Katniss would be okay. Post hijacking/war he still comes off okay with not being "the one" with Katniss still in her discovery and confusion sent some more mixed yet defining signals (you're a painter, a baker etc., "Don't let him take you from me." and kiss). Still there lingers a hope but again most of all that Katniss is okay and now at her extreme lowest. His not so much of a gamble rather....his heart makes the right choice as he does something for Primrose and IIRC Katniss starts to take note of her appearance because of his return. Then ofc you have the implied or ME thinking SC implied that Peeta had put Katniss to bed with buttercup after her breakdown because....

"That's what you and I do...protect each other."

suzanne, mastermind of parallels, gifted us with the two scenes where katniss thinks of her love interests with other people, having a life completely separate from her own.

for gale, after he is whipped, katniss feels a jealous rage over gale's hypothetical girlfriend/fiance (that he would get if he went to the games and did a star-crossed lovers approach). katniss interprets this possessive, blind rage as what must be her true feeling for gale coming though. in her flurry of emotions, she chooses gale and the revolution over peeta.

compare that with the way katniss thinks after the beach scene with peeta. katniss, overcome with a deep love for peeta, imagines a peaceful world where his child, a child who likely would not be her's could be safe. she imagines a world in which peeta is happy. she chooses peeta over herself, her family, and even gale in that moment.

i think that these scenes exemplify the difference between katniss's feelings for gale versus peeta. although gale is katniss's closest friend, the romantic love that she feels for him is shallow compared to her feelings for peeta.

I haven't jumped on a post in so long but for Everlark I will without question! I love everything about this and just to add, unlike the scenario with Gale and thinking of the hypothetical other person, Katniss does not create that hypothetical other person for Peeta even with the dream and thoughts of Peeta happy and with his child. Subconsciously Katniss wants to be/IS that hypothetical person. The thought of Peeta with someone else is more unthinkable than when she said that about Gale especially considering Peeta has been in front of Katniss with Delly, Jo, and Annie. Okay enough rambling from me.

Jon isn't the rightful heir because in no way can a prince overrule a King and both remain alive. The shows "R+L wedding" essentially does not matter and even then Aerys disinherited Rhaegars line and chose his other son, Viserys. Just like Jaeherys skipped his firstborn son's line and went to his second son. And what did king Aerys heir Viserys do? Name Daenerys his what? His heir. Princess of Dragonstone. The only person(s) book or show that could possibly give Dany a run for her money for the throne would be Stannis by Roberts Conquest/Usurping and for the hell of it, showCersei for the same reason.

But both Jon(Aegon) and Faegon fall behind Dany's claim.

I guess this is supposed to be a dig at me and the meta I wrote but I just find it funny that there are people making videos of how Dany “chose villainy” by burning Mirri alive to birth the dragons and at the same time the same camp of people want their faves to be called “the mother of dragons”. I thought dragons were villainous though 😭

Reading is fundamental. Even though this warped ass flex of an idea where Jon's sister cousin would have his child, she would be just like every other woman birthing a child from Targ lineage. Meaning, every woman that gave birth to such a child would be considered A mother of dragon(s).

HotD Trailer Theory

I had thoughts about some of the scenes, and I wanted to collect them in one place rather than posting on various forums or whatever, so here we go.

I, like the giant nerd that I am, went through the long trailer frame by frame. And as I was doing it I noticed this:

That is Alicent's hand grabbing the catspaw dagger from someone else's belt. So, the dagger isn't something she had in her possession, she grabs it in the heat of the moment from someone nearby. So I went to this image and started looking for someone who had a lighter front on their tunic, but I couldn't find anyone:

So I started thinking about who I could see and who I couldn't. And you know who I can't spot? Viserys (after the fact I did notice him in the upper right, and I think he's been pushed out of the way by the Kingsguard.). So I grabbed the image of Viserys with Blackfyre from that same westeros.org link, and I lightened it. And sure enough:

Look what you can clearly see on his belt. The handle of the catspaw dagger. And if you look at this image from the teaser, you can juuuuust see it poking out:

And I believe there's one other scene where you can see the handle as well. So it looks like it's something he wears regularly.

Lets look at another piece of the puzzle. Here's a closer shot of that image above with the two of them:

I believe that's Laena Velaryon, which means that this takes place before her death. That places this scene before her death, and is therefore not a reaction by Alicent to Aemond having his eye put out. I believe, instead, that this is a celebration following the infamous 5th anniversary where the terms "greens" and "blacks" were coined. Their dresses are also green and black in the various shots we see of this event. Well, in Rhaenyra's case, black and red. However, that is canon, as she is described as having dressed "dramatically in Targaryen red and black". Based on these things, I believe that all the footage we've seen from this scene was from the tourney, and that in accordance with their more fleshed-out relationship in the show, the conflict between the two at this event will also be more fleshed out. This is further supported by the symbolic arrangement of the people around the two of them in that image. The Velaryons standing behind Rhaenyra, Viserys being knocked unceremoniously out of the picture, Criston Cole holding back Daemon, and so on. Rhaenyra also looks very emotional during the confrontation, and has tears on her cheeks. Why would she be crying if this was a confrontation over Aemond's eye? She wouldn't. Laena is in this scene, ergo it *cannot* be from that confrontation.

Alternatively, it could be Baela and Rhaena rather than Laena and Laenor, standing next to the 3 Strong boys. It still doesn't make a lot of sense to me that Rhaenyra would be upset about Aemond losing his eye, but hey, I definitely could be wrong here. In canon, the girls are only 4 years old during the Vhaegar altercation, but they are playing with the timeline a bit so they could be aged up.

As an aside, there is a fan theory out there that whilst Aegon had Blackfyre and Visenya had Dark Sister, Rhaenys might have had her own blade that we aren't told about (I'm sorry, I don't remember who came up with it.). I think that Viserys being in possession of it seems to indicate it might also be a Targaryen heirloom. We've all always wondered what drove Aegon to Dragonstone after a visit from Princess Deria of Dorne. Whatever it was, this dagger may very well have been included in it. A return of Rhaenys's bones and a family artefact, perhaps?

Anyway I'm super excited for the new show and I hope it doesn't let us down.

Do The Thing With Your Tongue

They were meant to hate each other. Yet, over the past few moons, she had grown fond of the King in The North. Especially when he did that thing with his tongue.

A/N: I wrote this in less than 24 hours after scrolling on Tik Tok where I saw a clip from The Great with Catherine and Peter. This was completely unplanned but once I started, I couldn't stop.... Apologies for all and any mistakes.

Catching Fire, Ch. 14

There is so much going on in this paragraph. We see this side of Peeta that’s new to Katniss: the trainer, the disciplined one, the one pushing and keeping Katniss at arms’ length. 

We can hear Katniss’s relief when Peeta lets down his guard and lets her back into his arms. The want and need they have for each other is so palpable. In the passage after that, she even has relief in the fact that she doesn’t have to consider Gale’s feelings anymore. It’s a very telling moment in their relationship.

Peeta pulls her in close and she doesn’t want to let go. It’s perfect.
