not to get on a soap box or whatever,  but if you’re a fan of the disney parks in any capacity--please give a damn about the cast members and their current fight to get a raise/living wage. 

many (and I mean MANY) of my coworkers are either displaced from their homes (due to the recent hurricane or otherwise), living out of their cars, can’t afford basic medical care, are stuck in a never-ending mountain of debt, can’t afford to be on medical or maternity leave, etc. 

the company has just recently increased prices around the board, not only for their fastpass service (now called genie+), but also for bottles of water and other merchandise. the genie+ service had costed/now costs more to buy than a frontline cast member makes in an hour. 

the renting market in orlando has seen the biggest increase in price in recent history, many of my friends rents going up somewhere between $300-$500 a MONTH, mine personally going up $250 for the same shitty apartment with absolutely no changes made to the property. but does the company care about that? nah. they only care about their bottom line, which, in fact, they have ALSO made record profits in the last year, absolutely NONE of that is going to the frontline cast members. all we get is the occasional ‘thank you’ or a free fucking cupcake. 

I’m sick of it. I love my job, I love what I do, why should I or any of my coworkers have to work 50+ hours a week or work 3 different jobs just to stay afloat? But sure, disney fans, keep whining about the price increases or how the ‘magic’ is gone. The parks are just empty without the cast members, their the ones making the magic--and we should get paid fairly to keep doing so.
