Ulrick Jean-Pierre interprets Bois Caiman in his painting titled Cayman Wood Ceremony. This image is visibly the most erotic of the art forms this blog displays. Evidently Jean-Pierre believes that the ceremony was preformed by half-nude male and female slaves. It also relies heavily on the power of nature. The men and women seem to bend with the trees, becoming one with them as they plot the demise of their slave masters. Similarly, the lightning storm in the background appears to energize the sword of the female who straddles the pig. The center male figure is no doubt Dutty Bookman, who seems to be commanding the wind with the power of his African ancestors.

For those who want to know why folks under 40 are finding socialism appealing? Well, this pretty much says it.

It’s like “We busted our butt in school. Our school was falling apart and never had enough funding for textbooks or teacher pay.”

“We worked hard and got good grades and got in a good college. But even with the scholarships and working part time (if it was paying work and not an “internship” where we paid TO work), it still set us back more than your house!“

“And after graduation, we are stringing together 2-3 temp jobs and side hustles with no benefits, and living in a shack with six people because we still have those loans to pay off.”

We cannot have marriages, kids, home ownership, or any of the other milestones of adulthood you all got and took for granted. Meanwhile, you sit and sneer at us for “not doing it right” when we’re struggling. No one is helping us.“

“Our elders have money. These CEOs have money. There’s always money for police and military. Where is the money for everyone else? No one likes this system. Why can’t it be different and organized to serve the things everyone wants? Food, shelter, medical care?”

“But we hear things from our teachers and on social media about how we could just organize, turn around, and smash open the coffers, taking it for ourselves. And we could just reorganize the world to be what we want and making sure everyone is cared for.”

And you could trot out examples of Cuba, Venezuela, and USSR, but that isn’t near as persuasive as the reality around them of “I did what capitalism said was the ‘right’ thing and I am still struggling. So is everyone else.”

So, what are you all going to do to address the hopelessness and anger at the root of this?

you are the most permanent thing in your life. always. that won’t change. ever. so put you first. prioritize you. choose you. you, you, you. your needs, your wants, your dreams, your feelings, your happiness, your peace. never sacrifice any of that, and do not spend your entire life treating people who might be temporary better than you treat yourself.

especially if they act like a temporary person: bare minimum, low effort, confusing, unkind, shitty, toxic.
