Yesterday (Wednesday 10.23): Day 2 of couch to 5K. Cooler. Definitely felt wheezy when finished. But it did get finished.

Today: Lunch time yoga with some coworkers. The session took place in the middle of the plaza. Being a newbie, I was nervous. But the hour passed by with the downward dogs, and tree poses, warrior twos and what not. I was so focused I didn’t really care that this was happening in the broad daylight in the middle of downtown Atlanta.

Fall nine times, get up ten?

  • My coworkers have been inspiring me lately with their daily, healthy actions- one has been consistently making sure to include fruit and vegetables in her meals, the other walks on her lunch break and has been training for a 10 miler and a half marathon. That, plus seeing a Facebook memory of my first 5k with Tori, started a little motivation in my gut.
  • I started couch to 5K allll over again yesterday and went to the trail close to work. (My coworker plans to run a December 5K and I plan to run it with her- the goal is to run the whole thing). I also fired up the ole MyFitnessPal in hopes of tracking.
  • Fall is starting to show her pretty little face in North GA.

Elevator selfies the last 2 days.

I intended on 25 minutes on the elliptical, but they were occupied, so I went with the treadmill. Hills and light jogging.

I took a walk around my building on my lunch break to get in a few more steps. As I went around the block I kept thinking about how much I am liking working in the city and how interesting it is. Then a man cat called me 🙃. I intended to ignore it, but then something came over me. So then I asked him who the fuck he was talking to. And he shrugged. And I demanded he apologize and after a pause, he mumbled an apology. Before he could say anymore, I turned and walked away. You don’t get to yell at me outside my building, in a city I’m just re-learning to love.

That was a sweaty one. We are unseasonably hot here, like my car temp said 104 degrees, so I opted to do a gym workout at the complex.

Walk/jog intervals for 30.

Os got a very rare chance to see the Red Sox play at Fenway against the Yankees while away for work, so I am watching the game hoping to spot him. Also Big Papi is there. The jealousy is real, but also I am very excited for him because this is his first Red Sox game and what better way to be baptized into the fandom.

Football. Season.

Using the day to get week prep done. Laundry, very small grocery (ya girl is hurting until the first paycheck comes in), workout (20 minutes on the elliptical), and mass (I’m trying to be better about making church a regular part of my weekend routine again).

Writing belated September goals in a journal in a few minutes. They are going to be crazy, stupidly basic, but I’ve got to get something going regular.

Os is working, so rooting for the Pats solo tonight.

PS: you guys are the coolest, best support group and thank you for all the congrats on the new adventure!

Okay, Atlanta- I see you

A view from Piedmont Park on a verrryyy warm Tuesday.

Let me just run through the latest blah so I can get to the yay.

Blah:

-I am back to the weight I started out at in the beginning of August. I seriously lost and gained the same 5 lbs like three times. It makes me so uncomfortable. I constantly tug at my clothes and its hard being around a lot of people- being self conscious overwhelms me.

Yay:

+I got a job! Today was day 2 at work and I really like it. So far, I already feel necessary and appreciated. My boss is super chill and super responsive. I have my own office and our building is in a great spot— I take my lunch out to the patio and it’s perfectly shaded and usually someone is performing live music. I know it’s easy to gush about a job on day 2, but I hope this is a continuing trend.

+I went and ran at a trail that was only half a mile from work. I brought workout clothes, changed as soon as I clocked out, and got in 30 minutes of an easy C25K workout.

+Got in some self care when I got home- one of those shower and actually shave my legs, lotion up, do a face mask times. It was a nice way to wind down a Friday.

+I am going to MA next weekend. For the first time in 30 years I am going to the Big E, and I am taking Oso. I am so excited for the New England air and seeing my cousins. Plus my parents will be there, so I’ll get to be an only child for 3 days.

I am hoping that because I now have a Monday- Friday routine I can start to get (and keep) my weight in check. (I hope you guys never abandon me because I know all too well I say that a lot). I don’t quite know what my specific goals are just yet...

Oso and I went to Kennesaw Mountain for a hike. The weather was perfect- high 70s with shade on the hiking trail and a breeze. I could sense fall and it was wonderful.

Ended up with 10000 steps between various trails on the mountain.

Healthy pasta with spinach and mushrooms for dinner.

Today was a nice day.

Got my 10000 steps on the Freedom Trail with Os.

It’s always fun to me to look at the houses in the area around the trail and pretend I could afford them and to wonder what it would be like to live there.

I thought it was going to be ten degrees cooler than it actually was.

I have a blister on my toe.

That is my update for Wednesday.

Couch to 5K, week 4 day 1.

We jumped from 9 minutes total of jogging to 16. Longer intervals, shorter rests. I took to the treadmill since the weather isn’t great, which left at interesting tracking pattern on the app.

Working on that confidence, yo.

Needed this station today. On the struggle bus not just health wise, but in general areas of life confidence.

Job rejections never get any easier to swallow. The feeling compounds and makes me feel useless and unskilled.

My guest room is still a mess. I really wanted it to be organized before this weekend (my family is coming up to visit for the holiday) but I don’t foresee that happening. Especially because we definitely need various pieces of furniture to assist in the organization process, but we’ve put that on hold until our finances with allow it.

Put in 35 minutes in the gym today. Treadmill and elliptical.

Now: some Crystal Light and Cover Letter writing.

This week: I went to France for 24 hours. Of course France can’t be seen in one day, so Oso and I did what we could: walked with croissants to the Eiffel Tower, Drank wine in a French Cafe, Butchered conversational French phrases while ordering French Beer and Pomme Frites (aka French Fries). It was exhausting, but glorious.

Travel for me comes with a price: my focus on healthy eating and exercises. Though I did walk over 21k steps in the city, I came back to the states tired and unmotivated (in comes uber eats and binge watching Netflix). So I am back to the weight I was when August started. All I can do is try again.

Today: Week 3, Day 3 couch to 5k on the gym treadmill. All the C25K trainings after this get much tougher.

After a short visit home which included celebrating my dad’s birthday, I hopped on the 6:15 am flight back to Atlanta.(Bless my dad for taking me at 5 am).

Though I am always bummed to say goodbye to my parents and my sister, it’s so comforting to know they are a 45 minute flight away as opposed to the entire day trip it used to be from Colorado.

I napped to blissful silence when I got to my apartment (farewell, nightmare neighbors!)

After a nap, I hit the complex gym for 30. Twenty on the treadmill for hill intervals and easy jogging, ten on the elliptical for a pretty tough hill setting.

Stopped by the leasing office to find my patio furniture had arrived. You have no idea how excited I am to help Oso put that together tomorrow.

Speaking of gym, I asked the gym I was a member of on the coast what I needed to do to make sure my membership didn’t auto renew when it ends (last payment is this month). They said I needed to write a letter and make sure I sign it, which to me was odd, since I was literally standing in front of them telling them I didn’t want to auto renew? Like a piece of paper is more legitimate than me taking care of it right then in person?

Now: In the Athens area to spend tonight and tomorrow with my sister, BIL, and nephew. I am living for all this toddler time I’ve been getting lately!

Today, you guys get a photo of my iced coffee from my favorite coffee shop on the coast.

I am back in the southeast for a couple of days. Yesterday, I had a dentist appointment (lord knows what insurance will look like in 6 months, so one more cleaning couldn’t hurt), plus my dad’s birthday is today and I wanted to stay to surprise him.

Workout this morning- I hit it for an hour since I didn’t work out yesterday. First, I was able to stay on track with Day 2, Week 2 of C25K. Then 15 on the ARC trainer and 15 on the elliptical.

  • Started the morning with the return of the Green smoothie. Simple: half a banana, a tablespoon of peanut butter, almond milk, spinach, water and ice.
  • Today, I took a trip to the Freedom Trail. I would’ve (and should’ve) gone before noon, but my sleep schedule is so out of whack (thanks upstairs neighbors 😑—sidenote: I think they move out tomorrow. Send good vibes the next tenants are MUCH quieter)...that I don’t get to bed before midnight or one, so I wake up much later than intended.
  • Week 2, day 1 of C25K. Lots of sweat was had. The trail took me by where my brother and SIL used to live. Lots of good memories came back.
  • Yesterday: 40 minutes of cardio in the gym at the complex.
  • I am still paying the price on the scale for my cheat day on Saturday. This is really reminding me how much wasted effort there is when I make poor meal choices...
Avatar
  • First week of C25K finished out on the Beltline. Went out at 6 PM and it was still quite hot.
  • Oso is off on another three day trip. I dropped him off at the airport, then spent the afternoon with the Atlanta siblings. My niece starts pre- school tomorrow so I had to soak up the last bit of summer with her
  • I resisted a delicious burger for lunch and opted for a protein bar (I got a little wild last night with the cheat meal/ drink so I am trying to keep it tight today).
  • Caesar Salad and a frozen buffalo chicken bowl for dinner. When Oso is away, I tend to opt for bagged and boxed meals; I definitely revert back to Pre-Oso me. It’s not so bad, makes it easy to count calories and feeds my love of being lazy after the sun goes down.
  • Also I have forgotten my tumblr password but don’t use the email account I sent tumblr up with, because I don’t remember that password either, so if I ever get logged out of the tumblr app I am done for #firstworldproblem

  • I don’t know if you can tell, but it’s pouring in this photo. I ventured out solo (Os is on a three day trip) to a park about .75 miles from the apartment yesterday. It had a loop trail, so I attempted C25K Day 2. Some spots were verrry slow, but it was a satisfying workout. It started to rain with about 10 minutes of the program left, so I got soaked on the walk home.
  • I am very proud of myself for going out alone and finding a new trail. In Durango, I was a hermit. It was difficult to even get myself to the gym, I was so against being out in public alone. I am trying really hard to do things differently this time around.
  • Hung out with the brother, SIL, and niece last night and today. They are amazing for letting me hang out with them when Os is out of town- it helps stave off the lonely feels, and my niece is 21 months old and she just learned my name and she yells it when she sees me so it gets me in the feels ❤️
  • Today, some apartment organizing and a gym workout: 30 minutes of cardio.

Happy August! Yesterday @renascor-invictus wrote an August goals list and I really liked the concept so I am going to borrow it (I hope that’s okay!)

My goals:

  • Workout for at least thirty minutes, at least 6 days a week
  • Eat only one cheat meal, once a week (max)
  • Give myself, and stay on, a weekly allowance.

I know those aren’t crazy specific, but dear lord I have got to start somewhere.

Today: worked out in the complex gym. 15 treadmill, 15 elliptical. A Lizzio playlist featuring NERD to get me through.

Leftovers for dinner. Applied to another job. August is starting off well.
