i've been keeping up with the "watcher" drama.

i'm frankly shocked at how badly people responded to their announcement. yea it sucks when your favorite creators paywall their stuff, but $6 a month is kinda nothing. objectively chump change. around 20 cents a day. rarely is anything that much for a monthly fee anymore. you can't even get a runescape membership for that much anymore.

you should also support people taking their talents away from youtube because youtube is an objectively shitty, shitty site. it needs to be knocked down a couple pegs imo.

alternatively, just pirate. it's not like they didn't know that people would just pirate regardless of the price.

still though, all that ire over a $6 subscription? here's an idea: drop all your subscriptions today, pirate shit from hbo, netflix, paramount, etc., and reserve at least 20 cents for independent creatives who deserve a living.

also if you don't believe it makes a difference, look at what On Cinema ended being able to do. it's a web series over ten years old and it costs $5 a month. sometimes, these things are worth it!

also further addendum but patreon should also be knocked down a couple pegs. if you are a creator, i implore you to create revenue streams you yourself can manage and not be reliant on these bloodsucking sites like youtube and patreon.

theres nothing romantic about it. you live in uncertainty. you have gossamer thin safety nets. your health is shit. your mind is shit. your self esteem is at its lowest. you dont want to go outside. you dont want to meet people. you dont want to be seen. you feel like a failure. you pretend to be normal. but only pretend. you will find crumbs of meaning but it will fall through the cracks of your fingers. you will be constantly sad and angry. you wont reach out for help because of shame. when you do get help, it already feels too late. you will look at everything else with envy. you will constantly think about the what-ifs and the why-nots. the world becomes frightening, and positive progress is always prone to regression. you will no longer be curious. worst of all, you will be exhausted.
