i had a nyquil dream where i saw all of the new season of succession. in episode 2, they discover that a prestige television channel is developing a tv show about a wealthy media family. at first the roy family members scoff at this, but because they are all sick narcissist sociopaths they become more and more intrigued and each has their own plan for scoping out the new tv show, trying to get access to the writers, cast, or directors to influence them... a "synecodeche new york" style meta narrative emerges of doubles and sets, leading you to question what's real and what's fiction. as the season continues you realize that you yourself as a viewer are complicit in this spectacle, and they break the 4th wall more and more, sometimes addressing you directly by name. by the end of the show you yourself are a character and they are interrogating you, sometimes as characters, sometimes as themselves, asking if you understand your own complicity in the "bread and circus" show. at first you allowed yourself a healthy remove, it's all satirical, isn't it funny, but then you realize, no, they're right, we are all so complicit, the capital builds up and up and i'm a passive participant. the last shot includes a subliminal code through which we all instantly memorize the addresses of those who horde power and are encouraged to revolt.
i'm afraid this version slapped so hard that if the real episodes don't turn out like this i'll be like eh it was a good show but they fell off when they didn't do the weird meta narrative they promised me.

went to the hospital last night because I was having chest pain and I was pretty sure it wasn't a heart attack but not totally sure and with that kind of thing usually it's good to be totally sure. and it wasn't, so that's good, just anxiety or indigestion or muscular something or because I went from 5 caffeinated beverages per day to 2 or something like that. just one of those times it Hurts to Be Alive. but yeah anyway I gotta get my fuckin life in order gang it's gettin sloppy over here

Hi,
For a gale: the yards pointed to the wind, and secured and hoisted clear of the caps; anchors, boats, and guns, well secured; life-lines fore-and-aft all the decks; spare spars and yards on deck well lashed, as also everything movable on deck and below. Have hatches ready for battening down; spare axes at hand; pumps clear; storm staysails and gear overhauled and ready; relieving tackles ready for hooking; spare tiller at hand; also compasses.
If expecting a hurricane, get the flying-jib boom in; send down top-gallant masts; studding sails out of tops; all shot below out of racks; pass a hawser round the laniards of lower rigging; cook provisions in advance; furl all square sails; set the fore storm-staysail and have the others ready; marl the sails down to the yards with the studding-sail gear, in addition to the gaskets.
It is recommended to send down top-gallant masts in a heavy gale, when the vessel has much top-hamper, as it eases her considerably. When sending them down at sea, under whole topsails, it is better to lower the topsail yards at once, and send the masts down forward, than to attempt sending them down abaft. In the case of sending them down with the close-reefed main topsail set, fore and mizzen furled, send the main down abaft the topsail yard.
