Specifically in Episode 6, “The Case of the Creeping Forest,” when Edwin changes his outfit for the first time...He’s wearing a cozy green sweater and tells Charles that he has feelings for men. Charles puts both his hands on Edwin’s shoulders, facing him, as a sign of his unconditional love and support for Edwin’s sexuality. “For me, I always knew that Charles was the only one that can get through to Edwin through touch,” says Revri. “Edwin wouldn’t want anyone else to really touch him.” It’s an important moment for their friendship, signifying that Edwin is starting to open up about his feelings and his attire reflects this. “To change Edwin is a big deal because Edwin doesn’t like change,” costume designer Kelli Dunsmore tells Tudum. “He had no collar. He had no bow tie.” Up until Episode 6, Edwin is always buttoned-up and closed off, protected in his tailor-made suit. “Hiding everything,” says Dunsmore. It was Rexstrew’s pitch to have Edwin wear something different for that episode. “I just thought it could be an interesting way to get Charles’ attention,” says Rexstrew. “It’s like this really innocent and desperate little attempt.” In the scene, Revri chose to add in a line acknowledging the fashion statement. “It felt right for Charles to notice that Edwin dressed up nice,” he says.

Charles truly has the most beautiful and romantic eyes you could ever find. Did you notice how shiny and warm his eyes turn when he is looking at someone he loves wholeheartedly? You can feel the devoted love radiating from them.
He really is fascinating in all ways and I am crazy about him.

Haven’t watched dead boy detectives yet but I could have sworn the little Edwardian one was charles, his name is not Charles?
What do you mean that’s Edwin.
Their names don’t match them, swap them.
I have also had this struggle! To help resolve it, @deedala and I crafted the headcanon that Charles went by Charlie or Chaz or something nicknamey like that when he was alive (which seems to suit him more), but when he introduced himself to Edwin that way, Edwin was like “absolutely not, far too informal!!” and so calls him Charles, and of course after thirty years, that’s the only name Charles uses 😂
So, he’s Charles by way of Edwardian social sensibilities, and that’s why it feels so old-fashioned on him

as someone who was (and still kind of is) obsessed with dirk gently i do think if you liked dirk gently you will also love dead boy detectives. dbd really is the first show ive seen that has a similar vibe to dghda not only just in the supernatural detective story vibe but also in the particular way it is campy and silly while also being devastating. the visuals also have a similar style to me in that kind of neon retro sort of way
Being in love is like being a ghost: Edwin got there first, but once Charles finds him there, he wants to be there with him

we only got 17 seconds of jayden-as-cat-king but it's been living in my head rent-free full time tbh
