Do you know anything about essay writing? In academics, you avoid generalizations. Primarily because it’s wrong - you shouldn’t generalize anything unless

A) Common sense would dictate that it would be superfluous - things that are easily observable that wouldn’t need to be cited.

or B) It can be proven beyond the shadow of a doubt. 

You’re in college - you have most likely written many essays before this. You have most likely been told that generalizations are a big thing to avoid because it’s impossible to paint everyone in a group the same. If I were to write something like “Women are X Y or Z” then it would be counted off - because I generalized 50% of the population without considering the individuals. It’s not someone being a fuckboy, it’s doing what they’re supposed to be doing and making sure you’re being a good student.
