White Diamond had ordered it. Lapis Lazuli had disobeyed the Diamond Authority too many times. Though she’d been given multiple chances, she continued to disobey.
So Lapis Lazuli was ordered to be recycled.
Rose Quartz had been put on execution duty this time. It was never a job she enjoyed, and it never had been. She’d seen countless gems crushed into dust; a fate no gem ever deserved.
Homeworld was very specific about how things were run. Everyone had a role, and was given a job, and if they disobeyed, they were to be recycled.
Lapis Lazuli was one of very few gems who had been given more than one chance. She was the last of her kind, and crushing and reusing her was not ideal.
“State your name.” Standard protocol. Rose was to ask their names and why they were being punished.
“Lapis Lazuli.”
Fear showed on the blue gem’s face, although she was trying to not show it.
“What are you being punished for?”
“Disobedience to the Authority.” The shaking in her voice was unmistakable. She was terrified.
“What is your punishment?”
Lazuli closed her eyes, trying to keep herself together. Rose gave her a moment to calm down.
“Recycling.”
Rose nodded. “Lay down, Lapis Lazuli,” then in a whisper, she added, “Try to let it hit only your gem. It’ll hurt less.”
She obeyed, laying down on hwe stomach and moving her gem as close to the hammer as she could.
Rose waited until she finished positioning herself, then pulled the lever. it took almost no time; the hammer fell and crushed Lapis’ gem in a moment’s time.
“Sorry.”

She blinked in confusion, drawing back with a slight wrinkle of her nose. How was she Rose Quartz? This made no sense-!
Amethyst wasn’t acting weird, right? She was supposed to defend her planet by confronting strange gems, and this was a strange gem. But she acted like she knew her.. Biting her lip and frowning slightly, the smaller straightened herself and locked eye contact with Rose.
“ I don’t know you, so why do you have the same gem as someone I DO know? ”
“ Yeah. Rose Quartz. ”
What was going on? Why did Amethyst not recognize her? You can’t just forget someone like that!
Rose would assume Amethyst was playing a prank on her, and she wouldn’t say that’d be unlikely, but it didn’t seem like she was pranking her.
“ How do you not know me? Is this a joke? ”
