Supernatural: An Easter Summary

Their last moment together on Earth

Dean is dying. His final words are for his brother, a reassurance : he’s going to be with him forever, right here, in his heart. He literally reaches for Sam’s, but their hands end near Dean’s, entangled in death as the Winchesters were in life. 

Then comes that foreheads touch…

Such a symbolic gesture – “you will always be in my thoughts” - and made so slowly even if the clock is ticking. They are so soft, the both of them. Gentle movements : a contrast to all the violence they have endured and inflicted.

A reminder too : they always have been a haven of rest for one another, the ultimate solace, the piece that make their souls whole and therefore, at peace.

A contact that reiterates their unity, the completeness of their beings. Just like the camera zeroed in on them. The shot is narrowed down to the essential : Dean and Sam.

Blurry surroundings conveying how everything else is tuned out. It’s just them. And between them, there is as much space as time left : very little. The framing is tight : a close-up. But they are even closer.

Their proximity emphasizes what’s about to be lost, the amalgamation that’s about to be ripped apart. The following wide shot will highlight all the space that still exists and was forgotten. It will highlight the emptiness that won’t be filled for a long time.

For now, they say their goodbyes with shaky breaths and there is love in the way they both try to not shed tears, unwilling to let the other go with the image of their pain. 

So much love in this last moment that only the first one together in the afterlife makes the so-called Heaven finally heavenly.
