I have a solution for this! It’s an FFXIV macro that I call ‘Sneaky Peeky’

Removing the quotations, copy + paste “/c <mo>” into your macro list.

This lets you mouse over a character and examines their gear. If you put in on a hotbar and keybind it, your character won’t turn or look directly at the character when you use it; here’s a gif example of me using it! (It’s the magnifying glass on my bottom right hotbar)
