His name is Jacob Blake. He was unarmed, trying to break up a fight. He was tasered and shot 7 times while trying to get into a car. His kids were watching.

This happened on 8/23. Havent found too many posts on tumblr about it yet. Police tear gassed protestors who gathered outside the police station. I'll keep an eye out for a gofundme/petition.

An update. If you've reblogged this from me with the caption using past tense, please delete it.

I could seriously use this money right now….

Please give me my refund of 400$ soon…

I feel obligated to reblog this every time it shows up in my dash

No bragging, just 100% floored and grateful. Work hard, maintain a positive attitude, and believe that anything can happen.

So I reblogged this exactly a week ago because I thought it was funny and uh lo and behold, a family friend wrote me a big ol’ check just to help me out of a tough financial spot AND my bank refunded me $32 for fees they’d originally taken out. SO UH YEAH. Reblogging this again in hopes that it brings equally good fortune to my followers.

I still haven’t gotten my birth control, I’m getting closr to running out

I’m already hearing stories from the purists who have beef with the Biden/Harris ticket and I AM BEYOND OVER IT. you have learned NOTHING from 2016.

I did not vote for Biden in the primary, but I am damn well voting for him and I am voting down ticket as well. Voting third party is the same as voting for Trump and everyone who does it this election Is an asshole.

he’s literally rigging the election and next to nothing’s being done about it what the actual fucking living hell

HE’S LITERALLY TARGETING USPS IN BLUE AREAS WHERE HE LOST THE LAST ELECTION

If you feel unsafe about voting in person (because, y’know, we’re in the middle of a goddam pandemic) but now fear the USPS will be unable to deliver a “mail-in” ballot in a timely fashion….

1. Request a mail-in ballot.

2. Do not mail it.

3. Google your supervisor of elections to see where you can drop off your mail-in ballot. It’s usually NOT THE POLLING PLACE.

All states allow this! Here is what you’re accomplishing by doing this:

1. Your ballot gets in on time no matter what happens to the USPS.

2. You don’t have to worry about standing in long lines and risking infection. You’re just stopping by to drop it off.

3. You voted! Hooray! I have no doubt Trump and his supporters are doing to try to call into question the legitimacy of mail-in voting (which is more enthusiastically embraced by Democratic supporters, especially now.)

Also, when you drop it off, find out how to track it online to make sure it is verified. California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have systems that can track your ballot just like tracking a package from Amazon.

All CA vote centers (which are open for weeks to a month before election day) have ballot drop-off boxes too! Many government buildings have them as well, so there’s no need to wait until election day when it’s crowded to drop them off. The list of drop-off sites is always posted on each county’s voter info website.

This is important! This election is crucial! Get out and vote! We! Cannot! Afford! To! Get! Complacent! This year, every vote matters!

When Black people say that racism is systemic this is what we mean. By being over policed we are in constant danger of being disenfranchised.

We should already be planning how we’re going to support the nigh-inevitable mass teachers’ strike in a few weeks.

Listen to teachers now.

Follow some teaching groups like Red For Ed in Arizona who already are protesting.

Watch cities like Phoenix, LA, Orlando, Miami, and other hot spots in the next couple of weeks.

Donate to your local teacher’s union. Donate to local school PPE funds.

We are already organizing. Help us prepare.

many of the worst places for this are where striking, collective bargaining, and/or labor unions (… effectively even if not literally) are illegal - meaning they could lose licensure, pensions, and/or be jailed for attempts at these.

even if you’re not in education, i truly encourage you to protest a full reopen of schools. call and ask them how many of them have pulled their own children but demand the teachers and students show up. as the op mentioned, donate money if/where you can.

children will die — especially those with disabilities. their guardians will die. educators and janitors will die. bus drivers will die. and now teachers are the ones who have to figure out what to do.

the governments know. they expect everyone, including children, to be okay with it when they get sick or are permantly disabled, or when people around them die or are permanently disabled from the government creating what WILL be entirely preventable nationwide superspreader events.

national unions and teachers’ organizations still provide aid where local chapters cannot. some examples are the NEA, the AFT, and the IWW.

You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.

I want to drill this into everybody’s head:

  • The United States of America has the highest prison population in the world
  • Black Americans and Latin people make up the majority of this population (many of whom are non-violent offenders)
  • Federal Prisons in America require that their state keeps their prisons at a maximum occupancy at all times.
  • The 13th amendment did not entirely abolish slavery…just one form of it. It remains legal through industrial prison system

Oh and we have privatized prisons which allow companies to actually make money off of keeping people incarcerated

Here’s what’s really perverse: prisoners, who cannot vote, still get counted in the U.S. Census. The more prisoners a county has, the more representation it gets, even though the prisoners cannot vote. See how that works? The more black and brown people they lock up, the more government resources and political representation they get. Even though those prisoners have no say and cannot vote.

If county-A has a population of 50 voters but no prisons, and county-B has a population of 50 voters and 50 prisoners, the county with the prisoners gets more government funding and more political represention. This is sometimes called “prison gerrymandering” and it is used in redistrictring.

Not so fun Fact: Southern states that reliably vote for Republicans also have the highest prison population in the United States. (source). So mass incarceration is a double whammy. It’s both a form of voter suppression and a tool to strengthen white people’s political power.
