Don Wilson:

"I have noticed a significant increase in general laxity about PPE since COVID masking has been dropped. A significant % of OR staff (esp anesthesia & RTs) not bothering to mask inside actual OR even when sterile fields are open & set up.

Nurses inside OR generally much more consistent (they directly handle & set up sterile equipment).

I’ve seen unmasked anesthesiologists & RTs for emergency CS & gyne cases… I don’t get it. We mask to prevent contamination of open surgical wounds. Just because COVID mask mandates are over doesn’t mean INSIDE an operating room is a mask free zone.

Used to be that it was unthinkable to be unmasked inside an active OR. Even in the hallways during active OR time. It’s a sad commentary on the impact of the antimask stupidity spilling over to areas where it can impact quality & safety of the patient care environment.

I’m just one person who chooses to be fastidious about masking inside the hospital, I can’t take on the entire system. But it’s discouraging to see & I wonder how many patients go on to have nosocomial surgical infections because of relaxed cultures around masking now."

Yesterday I saw an article about Hantavirus prevention that didn't mention respiratory protection when cleaning up mouse poop. Just gloves, bleach, and wetting rather than sweeping. Which is better than nothing, but for a disease as dangerous as HPS, I'm going to put in the tiny extra effort of an N-95 also.

Construction workers are masking less around sawdust and worse.

The anti-mask brainrot runs deep.

What is the Sexy Lamp Test?

Avatar

It's a test in a similar vein to the Bechdel Test, designed to see at a glance how well written a character is. Coined by Kelly Sue DeConnick, iirc. Usually applied specifically to female characters, but it works for any characters who are in the token/companion role.

The test is:

If you replaced the character with a sexy lamp, would there be a difference? Would it affect the story in any way? There's still something sexy for us to look at, still an object to obtain, but does the plot have to change at all? Do we lose any important information or actions?

If not, your character has failed the Sexy Lamp Test

My Muppet Princess Bride drawings found their way to Facebook and from that came a ton of good suggestions for scenes. Rizzo as a R.O.U.S. has been suggested by a lot of different folks for as long as I've been doing these drawings, but I was never quite sure how to handle the scene until a commenter suggested Rizzo's line. Maybe it resonated with me because I can kinda relate to Rizzo in this moment (especially so soon after Valentines Day!). Thanks to Paul Adams who provided Rizzo's line, and gave me permission to use it in this drawing.

And shout-out to movie-screencaps.com for providing the backgrounds, I like to edit shots from the movie for my backgrounds because it allows me to focus on the fun part of drawing Muppets. There's also just something fun about 'painting' the Muppets into the actual film.

my fave greek history story to tell is that of agnodice. like she noticed that women were dying a lot during childbirth so she went to egypt to study medicine in alexandria and was really fucking good but b/c it was illegal for women to be doctors in athens she had to pretend to be a man. and then the other doctors noticed that she was 10x better than them and accused her of seducing and sleeping with the women patients. like they brought her to court for this. and she just looked at them and these charges and stripped in front of everyone like “yeah. im not fucking your wives” and then they got so mad that a woman was better at their jobs then them that they tried to execute her but all her patients came to court and were like “are you fucking serious? she is the reason you have living children and a wife.” so they were shamed into changing the law and that is how women were given the right to practice medicine in athens

Yeah, this isn’t some Greek myth story about a hero or demigod or something, Agnodice was a real person who actually did this.

As a lesbian i will always relate more to trans women than cishet women. Made to feel disgusting and predatory in women’s spaces? Check. Berated and mocked for our relation to sexuality and womanhood? Check. Hated for our “deviancy from the norm”? Check. Every single essay about womanhood by a trans woman–and especially, especially by trans wlw–has spoken more to me than anything written by a cis straight woman ever could. T*rfs can take that to the bank.

also, may I add because it’s not just the negative stuff. there’s so much positive connection:

gender euphoria experiences with a self determined approach to womanhood, attraction and sexuality

celebration of bodies beyond the norm

creating our own culture of appreciating complex and intertwined expressions of gender and sexuality

destigmatization and newfound respect of and for our bodies

true sisterhood based on choice not force

the inherent revolutionary nature of our existence and our love and community

creating space for exploration of pleasure and identity

These posts were fundamental in my coming out as a woman and hopefully someone else will see them and see the overflowing love and acceptance that is waiting for them too.

Following an autistic girl and getting mad when she posts about star trek. Do you get mad at plants for growing. Do you yell at the sun for shining

“hallelujah” by leonard cohen being played as an easter and christmas song, “zombie” by the cranberries” being played as a halloween song, and “born in the U.S.A.” by bruce springsteen being played as a Fourth of July/generic us patriotism song have got to be a special trifecta of the most no-listening-comprehension musical moments that happen on seasonal playlists every single year

Homura day one checklist

  • Wake up. Cry a little about how things went last time. Tell yourself this is the loop you'll save Madoka. Force yourself to get out of bed
  • Fix eyes with magic. Remove glasses
  • Fix heart condition with magic. Let down your hair
  • Get dressed. Your school uniform is appropriate everywhere so there's no need to bother with other clothes. Check out of hospital
  • Break into yakuza hideout and steal guns while time is stopped
  • Break into second yakuza hideout and steal more guns
  • Break into military base and steal more guns
  • Break into second military base and steal more guns
  • Break into third military base and steal more guns
  • Visit your favorite apartment complex and submit an application to rent the ultra-modernist white box apartment you've decided on after dozens of loops. Who cares if you can afford rent, the building will be destroyed in a hurricane in a month anyway
  • Visit a furniture store and acquire your favorite couch, a large circular arrangement made of several concentric rings in the shape of a clock
  • Visit an electronic goods store and acquire thirty televisions to assemble the wall of screens you like to use to lay out your research
  • Visit a home goods store and acquire various miscellaneous items - pots and pans, utensils, a futon to sleep in, etc
  • Capture Amy the cat and take her to a shelter to prevent Madoka from making a wish to heal her
  • Kill particularly easy witch whose location is consistent on the first day. You'll need the grief seed in the coming weeks
  • Wait for night to fall and break into a certain art gallery with an exhibit of an enormous free swinging knife pendulum. Steal it for your own use
  • Break into Mikuni Oriko's house and murder her to prevent her from making a contract and trying to kill Madoka
  • Break into Kure Kirika's house and murder her to prevent her from doing anything drastic in response to Oriko's death
  • Return to your newly rented apartment and assemble all of the new decor stored in your convenient magic shield. It's good to be home
  • It's time to go to sleep. Time travel is a lot of work but you get to see Madoka again soon. You can't wait for morning 😌

Another reason I want more Addams Family with the 90s cast is I think it would be so nice to see Morticia uncorseted and aging gracefully. I don't think she'd go full Grandmama but do you really think an Addams is afraid of wrinkles and cellulite?

Look me in the eye and tell me Anjelica Huston doesn't still have it.

Some normie to Morticia: don't do _______, it will give you wrinkles.

Gomez: God, I hope so.

at morticia's 50th birthday party everyone's making Over The Hill jokes with the same envious joy you would celebrate your cousin's hundred million dollar lottery win. the "hill" decorations are various piles of rats, bones, garbage, severed limbs. there's a lot of chains and stolen crucifixes around instead of party streamers. the cake is a graveyard hill and they cut it with a visibly filthy shovel.

'one foot in the grave' gomez tells his wife, actively crying, 'and what a foot!'

morticia has the first slice of cake (it has a little sugar grave on it). when she finishes her delicate spoonful and smiles, the camera zooms in and we see she has spontaneously developed crow's feet. off camera is the sound of her husband really unsubtly orgasming.

after the party they drive off in a hearse with glass bottles of formaldehyde tied to the bumper. it says JUST OLD in the back.

the unsubtle orgasm noises continue.

YES. I WANT THIS.
