It’s called copula deletion, or zero copula. Many languages and dialects, including Ancient Greek and Russian, delete the copula (the verb to be) when the context is obvious.

So an utterance like “you a bitch” in AAVE is not an example of a misused you, but an example of a sentence that deletes the copular verb (are), which is a perfectly valid thing to do in that dialect, just as deleting an /r/ after a vowel is a perfectly valid thing to do in an upper-class British dialect.

What’s more, it’s been shown that copula deletion occurs in AAVE exactly in those contexts where copula contraction occurs in so-called “Standard American English.” That is, the basic sentence “You are great” can become “You’re great” in SAE and “You great” in AAVE, but “I know who you are” cannot become “I know who you’re” in SAE, and according to reports, neither can you get “I know who you” in AAVE.

In other words, AAVE is a set of grammatical rules just as complex and systematic as SAE, and the widespread belief that it is not is nothing more than yet another manifestation of deeply internalized racism.

six skips a day thing sucks but you know what? i can live with it. ads? i mute them when they come on and resume music like nothing happened. its inconvenient sure but i can deal.

now, apparently, you can only access the lyrics of five songs per month if you don't pay for spotify premium. which is still about 11 quid per month which is still fucking ridiculous when all you get out of it is. you dont have to hear ads. you can listen to stuff you wanna hear. the sound is good. you can organise your queue. and now they're paywalling fucking lyrics scrolls literally just because they can.

(and they still don't pay their artists by the way)

spotify uses Musixmatch to run lyrics. musixmatch is done by people who sign up and transcribe/sync/translate songs FOR FREE. i know because i do it! let's all kill corporations together i think

i know there are better alternatives. i know theres piracy routes, and physical media, and other apps and services and whatever. that's not my point. i don't want to have to go through five different websites for lyrics and i don't want to get stuck digging through the bare bones of pirate sites just for something to fucking listen to

my point is that spotify is able to paywall these things in the first place. in some cases, for musixmatch contributors, it's essentially selling access to lyrics that we transcribed for free back to us. literally just so spotify can bring in more money than it already does. i can only use spotify free and i wouldn't if i didn't have shared playlists with my friends on there but like. day by day this app is getting more and more hostile to users who can't pay but guess what! it's a subscription so the second you don't pay it at the end of the month there go all those wonderful little 'features' it gives you and what pisses me off about is like.
