This is my contribution to the Stucky Historical Fiction Collection. It is the story of Steve Rogers and James Bucky Barnes, both seeking spouses through the Matrimonial News, a mail order mate publication. I am close to posting chapter one and will link it when I do.

Bitter from his Civil War service, Steve is an alpha looking to get as far away from the crowded streets of NY as he can. Bucky is an omega looking for a place to belong, having returned to Indiana after the war and found his family gone. Steve has moved west with the intention of establishing a homestead and, unsuccessful in finding a spouse, seeks one in a mail order bride publication. The omega who answers his ad is all promises and Steve buys them, lock, stock, and barrel. Bucky answers an ad himself, desperate for a fresh start and intrigued by the thought of making something where there was nothing before, of creating instead of killing. The alpha he answers says everything Bucky wants to hear: new life, fresh start, successful and happy future. Its enough to get Bucky on a train to the Kansas Territory and onto a future they will make together.
With the moment with Pierce over, Bucky and Steve have no idea what to do next. They fumble through the awkward moment and hope for the best.
The euphoria of James accepting his offer lasted until Steve was back in his room and laying, once again, alone in bed. As usual his mind began to second guess everything that had taken place, every word that he had uttered. His mind turned over every word that James had spoken as well, like a kid turning over rocks in a creek, wondering each time if he would find a crayfish. Only Steve’s mind questioned whether or not James had meant what he said, or was there some sort of hidden meaning. Worse even, he began to second guess if James had understood the meaning of his words, the intention of his invitation.
Bucky meets Steve's friends and things being what they are, a little navigation is required.
“Steve Rogers is a good man, Bucky. Someday I’ll tell you why I know that. Right now, you’re gonna finish what you started. I promise, you won’t regret it.”
Bucky gulped in a deep breath and then let it out slowly. “Thank you, Sharon.”
“When the fiddle starts, that’s your cue. Walk to the end of the aisle and Sam will tell you what to do.”
Steve and Bucky begin their winter together in the small cabin. Not everything is perfect, but it's good.

He needed Steve. He needed him now and he needed Steve for forever.
He walked faster and faster, breaking out into a sweat under his now too warm navy pea coat. The faster his heart beat the faster the darkness came to take him. He was about to go under when he heard a voice shout to him.
“Bucky? Bucky, what's wrong?”
Steve. That was Steve’s voice pulling him back from the edge of the place he never wanted to go again. He dropped his yoke and ran to hi
