The brunette looks up and over her shoulder from where she stands at the guest bathroom sink, hands rubbing furiously under the hot tap. The water’s murky as it circles the drain, the mud under her nails will be a bitch to get out. ( As always. ) Hazel eyes sweep over John slowly in assessment, silence filling the immaculate white tiled space between them once the water’s shut off. Palms are dragged along the legs of her jeans as she turns, the bite of counter’s edge muted by the denim as she leans back to get comfortable.

In her past life, had she been in John’s shoes, the silence would have driven her insane, but now? Now it’s a saving grace. There’s a hell of a lot more on her plate than one would think possible. At the base of her skull the beast chuffs one good time and she concedes, teeth finding the inside corner of her lip briefly. “ Talk me through it, what you’re feelin’. Because to knowingly consent to hunting and killing someone is somethin’ you can’t come back from. ”

The girl sighs as she climbs the library’s stone steps, one hand adjusting the strap of her backpack over her shoulder as the other keeps the phone pressed to her ear. “ I’ll have a venti Caffè Americano; sugar and an extra shot of espresso. Thanks, you’re the best. ”

He hasn’t offered but that doesn’t stop her from making the request in the most obnoxiously sweet voice as she can muster. Despite herself she wears a lopsided smile that thankfully goes unseen upon reaching the building’s looming, heavy doors. She turns to take a quick glance at the gray skies overhead, brow furrowing against the slivers of sunlight not yet locked away. “ Tut tut, it looks like rain. You might want to hurry up. ”
