Kiki sent me this awesome scene analysis from “Save the Cat”! It’s so gratifying to know that people are engaging with the stuff we helped make. This scene analysis in particular was cool to see because there was, for one brief moment, a version of this scene that really leaned into Glimmer’s headspace. The above is a VERY ROUGH version of the scene that I threw together with my editor before an animatic screening to see if it would work. There’s some of Jasmine Goggin’s original drawings, a few drawings from our revisionists, my rough drawings, and then of course Mickey Quinn’s drawings from “Launch” that we cut to for the flashbacks. Ultimately, it was a cool idea that didn’t work in the context of the episode–we were already over time, and the episode really needed to be about Adora and Catra. But I’ll always remember this version that my editor Phil and I got SUPER into, timing those footsteps to the music to get into Glimmer’s head and being with her in her anxiety. I’m glad the spirit of the scene remained even after we pulled it back. STORYTELLIN’ IS FUN Anyway if you’re seeing this when I post it, go to Noelle and Molly’s charity livestream and DONATE~!
I’m 30 now! I made some gifs to recap the last year of my 20′s, which was a good one. Here is the accompanying text from the original post:
1 / I’ve been working on She-Ra as an episode director for almost a year now. It’s my first time directing & I feel really lucky to be a part of this crew! 2 / I started bouldering again a few months ago. It’s fun because it’s like solving a puzzle with your body! And when you get tired, you can just lie down on the floor cushions. 3 / I did a bunch of camping! So far I’ve been to: Joshua Tree, Big Sur, Palomar Mountain, Jamala Beach, and Sequoia. I’m hoping to make it to Yosemite this year. 4 / I’m very grateful to be where I’m at now! Even though there’s still a lot I’m not sure about, I feel hopeful about whatever’s next.
