Romulus would accept Rocket as one of his own, despite his alien origins.
He supports the theory of feral mutants evolving from animals, and Rocket would be a good example of what is possible.
He doesn’t believe that theory, but he supports it.
Romulus has castles on every continent but Antarctica.
He’s working on that one.
Romulus enjoys a fair amount of technological expertise; he has after all been around while it was developing from the wheel into iPads, but he leaves most of that to his underlings.
eheheheh
//it’s been almost a year since I posted this and I literally cannot remember what I did//
"You told me everyone was safe."
"They were, unless, as is entirely possible, someone decided they didn’t want shadows and shook them off and then got hurt. I am, contrary to popular beliefs in my youth, not a god."
"So go help her." It was said as if there was not another option to consider. "I can arrange a private flight, Alex. You’re not a prisoner here, merely an employee who is wanted dead by some very powerful and dangerous agencies."
He shrugged. “I can keep you off the radar, Alex, to a point. Don’t draw attention.”
It is almost too easy, or maybe Alex has just grown too suspicious. For a while he just looks at Romulus, and then finally he nods. “I’ll continue with the research of course. It might be a bit slower until she gets better, but…I’ll continue.”
"I'm counting on you, Alex. I can continue the work in your absence, but your brain is really what the project needs. Be careful, and if you need help, call me."
I will keep an eye on you anyway; I protect my investments.

"I’m not saying you are, just…a friend of mine got hurt and she needs my help."

Alex didn’t even question why there was a car waiting -a limousin even, of all things- so caught up was he with the news. They knew. They all knew, and he hadn’t seen their reactions, didn’t know if they now hated him or not, if he could ever step under their eyes again.
He almost wished the thugs would have finished their job.
But his family was safe at least, and Alex was hurting enough and was yearning for some honesty enough that he believed Romulus just like that. “Where are we going?”
Romulus saw to the man's injuries with business-like efficiency, skills earned and perfected on every battlefield since man first picked up a rock and hurled it at someone passing too close to his cave.
"Somewhere safe. I had invited you before all this, but now I really must insist; they will come back to finish what they started. They had that smell on them."
His castle in Japan was secure. Not that Romulus had much to fear from HYDRA or really any other organization that operated under the shadows he cast throughout history, but it paid to be ready in case they forgot to whom they owed allegiance. The unavoidable result of making sure almost no one knew he existed was that they forgot he existed.
"Japan," he elaborated after settling back on his seat and looking out the window at the city speeding by. "Everyone else is safe, and so it is time to make sure you are so."
Alex blinked at the man. There was something he tried to remember, but he wasn’t quite sure. But what he said was true: more were going to come, and if they were to find him here, he would be dead. He didn’t feel exactly good about it, but well - he also had never been in pain like this. Maybe this was the moment to let someone take the lead.
He managed to sit up, barely, and then forgot his pride and nodded, because he wouldn’t be able to go anyway. “Please.” In his situation, and even know he was aware of that, it wasn’t clever to trust someone who had just walked into his apartment after two guys had tried to kill him - but the thing was, he didn’t have much of a choice.
Then he remembered something and he reached for Romulus’ sleeve. “My friends. I have to warn them…” His family too, they would be worried sick, maybe targeted too….
Romulus gathered the man up in heavily-muscled arms and stood easily, as if Alex's weight was nothing. To tell the truth, that was nearer the mark than not. Romulus was bigger even than Thor in height, and nearly his equal in strength.
He had wroked for it, though he had to admit to being naturally gifted as well.
"SHIELD has fallen, Alex. Your friends will be going deep and running; you cannot contact them now for fear of giving them away." He moved carefully through the alleyway to a waiting limousine, where he gently set Alex in the spacious backseat before sitting across from him. He rapped on the window and the driver eased away from the curb to join traffic on the busy street only a few blocks away.
Few things were worth sacrificing style to do; rescuing a scientist from his well-deserved beating was not one of them.
"Your family is safe; I made arrangements once I learned what had happened. But, Alex, rest assured no one needs warning any longer; they all know."
More practice. Daken is a good model so… here he is~

Lucky for Alex, when Romulus entered he wasn’t conscious enough to witness the killing. He did, however, softly groan in response to Romulus checking on him, still mercifully oblivious. In his entire life he had never been beat up - the worst injury he ever had had been a broken wrist once.
Now, as the pain was edging back into his mind, he felt like if his entire body was rebelling against him. Everything hurt, his muscles burnt, his bones ached, and even breathing sent a sharp stinging pain through his body. With a sob, Alex tried to curl up, but even moving he couldn’t do, and thinking…he couldn’t think.
The only thing on his mind was to beg for it to stop.
And only then he noticed that someone had been talking, that he wasn’t alone anymore, and in a sudden rise of hope he thought it was one of his friends, and then, when his sense of the situation came back he realized that no, anyone but his friends, it would be too dangerous -
"The…the two men…"
Romulus could smell the pain andthe fear rolling off the scientist in desperate waves, and he smiled reassuringly. "They're not an issue for you any longer, Alex. Let's get you up, and out of here, doubtless more of their ilk will come along to see where their compatriots went."
He moved to check swiftly for broken bones, and marked with displeasure a head wound of to be determined severity. "I will carry you, if you cannot walk."
There had been a regrettable incident in Germany back at the height of the Blck Plague when he had been accused of making deals with the devil and been burned at the stake. Or they tried. It hadn't gone well for them.
(( This is definitely my favorite shade of blue though :D It comes out so nice ))
Are you saying I have a one track mind?
Not at all, my boy. Merely that every one of the hundreds of tracks along which you think all lead in the same direction eventually...
