I stopped visiting tumblr a long ago. As the site burns away you can find me on Artstation Stephanie Merriman - finished work. Instagram (at)theninjaswife -  wips. Twitter (at)snmerriman- a combination of wips and retweets. I’m kind of a ghost and don’t post terribly often (especially when work picks up) but I try to share my progress on personal projects when I do have time for them.

Hi! I was curious about how you turned a spaghetti canister into an ink tank. Do you have a tutorial you followed?

Hi! Nope. I just shaped some cardboard into the caps and added some cardboard padding to prevent them from covering too much of the canister. Covered it all with masking tape then spray painted them black. I used some silver thumbtacks for the studs and some of that sticker paper to make the decals. The ink is just some blue wrapping paper I put inside. Here are some of the process photos

When it rains, it pours.

Just when I thought things were settling down, life threw a bunch of stuff at me to take care of. I recently accepted a new job in So Cal starting in January :). The end of the year is typically pretty busy for me and now with moving it'll be even busier. Until things settle down I won't have much time for personal work :(. I'll be checking in and creepin' in the background as usual. Hopefully, it won't be too long before I'm back finishing and posting work. Until then have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

can i ask you if you had any difficulties with that splatoon inkling wig? some of the reviews on the wig you linked say you could see the netting at the scalp, was this true?

Avatar

sort of. The wig wasn’t as thick as I expected it to be. although I wasn’t sure what I was expecting since it’s the only wig I’ve ever purchased.  I didn’t have trouble with the netting showing once it I had everything styled and glued into place. It held up really well at the con and is still in really good shape. Just took at look at the very top of the head and yeah you can see a little netting if you’re really close and looking for it. You could buy two wigs and combine them like in the Cloud wig tutorial if you’re worried about it. The added thickness would be nice in the back too, in my opinion.

Dawn the Dreaded Ronin. Design by @thegreyninja Over the summer I took a sweet character modeling class through Mold3D Academy that was taught by Dylan Ekren. (who is a boss and excellent teacher). I cannot express how much I loved this class. I’ve been poking around Zbrush for some time but haven’t ever finished anything. Mostly because I had no clue how to do so haha. It was definitely a challenge and pushed me way outside of my comfort zone. I feel like I’ve learned a ton and grew a lot as an artist. If you have hit some kind of wall or plateau in your artwork I’d definitely recommend taking some kind of class to shake things up. It really helped me out :) This model is pretty special to me. It marks several firsts. First online class. First model finished in Zbrush (fifth times the charm but who’s counting). First time retopologizing something (which was a nightmare and set me way behind. I do not recommend Zbrush to retopo). I’m eager to get started on the next one. Hopefully, I wont be taking such a long unannounced hiatus again lol.

Let the job hunt begin

Due some company restructuring it seems I’m in the market for a new job along with about 60 other people starting today. If you hear of anyone looking for an artist or office help of any kind of love to hear about it! Especially in the Utah or North Carolina areas (I have family in both states)

Meanwhile I’ll be updating commission info along with my patreon and comic as I work on figuring out a plan of attack. Luckily what SLCC brought in combined with my savings will be able to provide a small buffer for the next few months, but every little bit helps even if it’s just spreading the word.

Thanks all for your support!

Signal Boost. Danielle is a killer artist and a superb human. Any leads would be much appreciated :)

The face was a little uncanny before. I'd say it was genius to add the mask. If you intended to do that all along, and just modeled a rough face for accuracy then 10/10 great job. In the other case, fuck it. Right decision either way.

Cool, thanks for the feedback. The initial idea was to make a vampire without actually showing any fangs. I’m glad to hear the mask is working. :)
