It was December 25th, Christmas Day. The Doctor landed his TARDIS just outside and walked up to Natasha's door and knocked on the door. He was wearing his usual clothes, but also a Santa Clause Christmas hat and was carrying a Christmas present for her in his hands.

Avatar

The redhead was dressed rather simply, a pair of black skinny jeans, a green sweater tunic with a black belt around the middle, and a mug of hot chocolate in her hands. There were some gifts under the tree she had in the corner and when she heard the knock at the door, she blinked. She wasn't expecting anyone so it was a little odd. Opening the door, Natasha blinked when she saw the Doctor.

"Merry Christmas," she greeted.

Avatar

"The Mayor, senators, community big wigs... people like that," she replied. "They're all there to say 'I met the Avengers. I can call them when we need something.' It's all ridiculous. But I don't really deal with that. They don't really care about me. It's all Rogers, Stark, Thor, and Banner they care about."

"You mentioned your birthday was in a couple days, not necessarily the day after mine... How can I help you celebrate your birthday?"

Avatar

"You being here is quite enough," he assured her, "What do you think of the TARDIS so far?"

Avatar

The woman frowned a bit and then shook her head. "I was given a serum that slowed my aging, increased my strength and healing, and gave me a little bit of an edge on other things," she admitted. "But it cost me a lot. I was born in 1928. So... I'm old."

"Still younger than me," the Doctor told her with a small laugh, "In fact, that actually seems very young to me. I know it's a bit old for humans, but I can't ever keep track of such things. How much did it slow your aging? How long do you expect you could live before dying of old age?"

"It's older than humans should be while looking the way I do," she explained. "My aging slowed after my 'graduation', so I still look closer to that day than I do my actual age. As for the human life expectancy, it's around ninety to one-hundred and ten years on average."

"I know the human life expectancy, I was asking about yours," he told her, "Because if you aren't aging, then you are likely to live much longer than that unless some sort of accident gets in your way."

"Oh. I don't know," she admitted. "I would expect maybe 150? I really don't know."

"I think you'll be much older than that," he told her, "You are already nearing a hundred and you look like you are thirty. You probably have another two hundred to three hundred years by my estimate."

Natasha shrugged and looked at him. "I don't know. They didn't exactly have a test for that," the woman replied. "But I do know it's going to suck watching people I care about die before me if I don't get met with an 'untimely demise'."

The woman had put the paper away in a place she thought no one would find it. But when she saw the Doctor near the spot with the report in his hands, she snatched it out of his grasp. "That's private! How could you just snoop around in my things!?" She asked, looking up at him with an expression of betrayal.

This report meant a lot to her as it was the inital test results for her to possibly get back what Red Room had taken from her.

Avatar

"I wasn't snooping around your things," the Doctor told her, a bit confused. "I found it lying there with water spilled all over it. It was cleaning up. It looked like someone else had just spilled water over it here recently. Truth be told, I didn't even look to see what it was yet."

"Those documents were out of the way," she stated plainly. "They wouldn't have been anywhere water could have spilled on them. I put them out of the way when I knew someone was showing up. So unless there's someone else here other than us..."

"It's your safe house. I'd imagine you'd know if someone else was here," he told her, but pulled out his sonic screwdriver to scan around. "There's another life sign, right outside your window."

Natasha narrowed her eyes. "Then I'm ready to ruin someone's day," she assured, pulling her weapon out from her belt as she aimed at the window. She then pointed it down slightly so she might get the person in the leg or the knee. "Shall I?"

The Doctor looked out through the window. He didn't see anyone out there, but he did see a statue in the distance that looked like an angel. "How long has that statue been there?" he asked. He hadn't noticed it earlier.

"I don't have any statues around here," She admitted. "I made sure I didn't because sometimes they give the impression of real people and I didn't feel like shooting something when I was having a bad day on accident."

Natasha had been baking some Christmas desserts and was singing along to songs on her playlist. "Santa Baby, a '54 convertible too, light blue/ I'll wait up for you dear/ Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight"

She looked up from her treats and she arched an eyebrow. "Well... I need to put a bell on you or something," she mentioned. "Yes, I sing along. No I don't actually mean it. Have a cookie and if you want I could use some help."

Avatar

"You didn't know," she replied, not looking at the man. "I'm not okay. I'm rarely okay around the holidays and in July. But... it's manageable."

The Doctor wrapped an arm around her in a hug. "If you need to talk about it, I'm always available," he told her.

"What I need... is to let it drop and get these cookies made before we deliver them to the shelter and then I have to go get gifts for other people," She replied, not wanting to dwell on the subject longer than necessary. If she did, she'd end up crying and she didn't need him seeing that.

"Of course," the Doctor smiled, "What else do we need to do?"

"Decorate, package, and deliver. The last batch is done cooling they just need to be decorated and delivered," she answered with a nod.

"I can help with both of those things," he told her, "Delivery in particular is quite easy with the TARDIS."

"Sounds like a plan," she replied before beginning to decorate the cookies. She enjoyed doing things like this. It was a simple task that still required so much focus and attention.

"So you do this every year?" the Doctor asked, "How did you come up with that idea?"

"I do it every year, yes," she replied, continuing to decorate. "I remember being the little girl who wanted something nice on Christmas. I was the little girl who begged for scraps for a couple years before I was plucked off the streets and turned into a weapon. I don't ever want any little one to be without something sweet on Christmas."

"That is very kind of you," he told her, "And I'll do everything I can to help with that." He thought for a moment, "In fact, I have a Christmas gift for you in the TARDIS that might help with that goal. Do you want to take a small trip? You might want to bring some of your cookies."

"Why do I think you're just now thinking of this gift?" she asked with an eyebrow arched. "And we need to deliver these cookies soon. I know time stops and we can come back and everything but... I still think linearly. When are we going to?"

Natasha winced from the feeling of the Doctor cleaning her skin. It hadn't been terrible at least. "I didn't shove you too hard, did I? You're not injured too, are you?" she asked, looking up at him.

Avatar

"Not injured at all thanks to you," he told her as he helped bandage her up, "Whoever was driving that car kept going through and with alien technology inside. We are going to have to go find them once we have you all taken care of."

"I heal quickly," she said, waving a hand dismissively. "Don't worry about me. You need that technology. I'll be fine."

"I need to make sure that technology gets into the wrong hands, I don't really need it for myself," he told her, "Your health is much more important."

"I'll be fine," She said again, grabbing his hand. "I'll heal. Go get that thing. I'm not going anywhere. Promise me you'll keep that thing safe."

"I need to keep you safe. That's a priority and this is still not a safe place," he told her, "We need to get you back to the TARDIS first at least and then I can give chase."

"I'll be fine. I have a gun and I heal quickly. I'll be absolutely alright," she countered. "Go. I need to see a medic and I know one in the area. So you know how to find me... find me when everything is done. Now go save the world."

The Doctor looked back towards her and looked forward towards where the people were chasing were headed, but then came up with an idea. "I think I have a solution," he told her and a TARDIS began to materialize near them.

"I'm going to go after them," he told her, "And then I'm headed back to the TARDIS and coming straight here. If I'm successful, than it should be me, right inside that TARDIS," he pointed.

Natasha nodded to him and winced as she sat up slightly. "Time frame for me to check the TARDIS?" she asked, looking to her watch. "Or are you going to step out of it?"

"The future me will probably step out of it just a few seconds after I leave now," he told her, "Can't run into myself and all that."

The woman nodded once and winced slightly. "Go. I'll be fine," she assured. "I'll wait right here for future you."

The Doctor went on his way, but just a few moments later, after the Doctor had left, he walked out of the TARDIS that had just materialized and ran up to her to help.

Natasha took a breath and closed her eyes. This hurt like hell but she'd heal eventually. Seeing the Doctor and the TARDIS, she smiled a bit. "Well hi there. How was everything?"

"Taken care of. The planet will be saved and everyone will be okay. For now, we need to worry about you. Can you walk? Or do you need me to carry you?" the Doctor asked as he examined her injury.

"Fantastic," she replied, wincing as she moved to get up. Sure it hurt like a bitch, but if she struggled through maybe it would ease up. "I'm a damsel, I'm in distress... I can handle this. I'm a big tough girl."

Natasha woke with a start and made herself a place where it was light. She hated the dreams she was seeing. It was all the same. Every death she caused... every death taken out on her. She dreamed of Loki's threat to her, to be tortured in every way she feared. And it all felt so real, so true.

She realized there was someone else around but she didn't look up from her knees.

Natasha continued to cook in the kitchen and half paid attention to him. "Strange?" she asked, checking everything out in the oven and flipping the omelet she made.

"The electricity in every other building has gone out," he told her, "Specifically in a row, organized. As if it's been done on purpose."

The redhead blinked as she listened to him. "What's the street and what's on it?" She asked. "If it's a bank, it's a robbery. If it's an IT company, it'll be a data breach. If it's an embassy... that's when we need to worry."

"It's every street in the town," he told her after double checking when he looked out her window, "Including this one. Both of your neighbors seem to have their power out. This doesn't seem random."

Natasha arched an eyebrow and blinked. "Well I have a generator. What do you think it might be? Is it alien tech?"

"It could be, but I won't know for a fact until we investigate," he told her, "Which I think we should do so."

"Have fun," she replied. "I will eat this breakfast by myself and keep your portion warm."

Send “Do you dance?” For my muse’s reaction to being asked that.

She paused in the chewing of her sandwich at the random question. She put the sandwich in her hand down and finished chewing the bite in her mouth. Natasha tilted her head and blinked. "I did.... a long time ago," she replied. "I still know how and will do it sometimes..."

Avatar

She listened to him and everything just seemed to come crashing down again. "Then what's the point!?" She blurted out angrily. "If you can't do a damn thing to help people who desperately need it because they shouldn't have died then why the hell even bother traveling in time!? If you can't fix mistakes then why go and do anything and play around. It's pointless and futile." Natasha pulled away and went over to her desk.

"Half of the universe is dead because of us. Half of my team is dead because of a mistake we didn't calculate into plans. If I could go back and fix that mistake... then we'd be fine. Then we'd be happy. The world would be okay. The universe would be okay. But you're telling me there's nothing I can do. There's no way I can fix this! And it sucks. It's horrible. You have all this power and you can't do anything," she stated coldly. "And I can't accept that. There has to be a way to fix this. If there isn't... then there's no way I can clean my ledger. There's no way I can get even on my books."

Sure she was fighting back tears because this couldn't be happening. She couldn't be dancing time away when she needed to be finding out a solution to bring back the lives that were lost. There needed to be something that could be done.

The Doctor walked over, clearly concerned and hugged her. "It will all be fixed," he assured her, "I'm trying to come up with something myself and I'm sure many of your remaining team mates also are working on it. I know it's hard, but you just have to give it time. We will fix it all. Until then, all we can do is keep living."

"Two of them gave up. One's living his life and I can't be mad at him while the other is helping people with support groups and counseling," she admitted. "Another went off the grid, another one is gone somewhere I don't know, and the last one... he's doing experiments and trying to better his own life. I'm the only one who is here and doing this job." She wiped her tears away and she sniffled.

"I'm thankful to those who stay and help, who work with me to keep this planet at peace and quashing any threats that come our way... but I feel abandoned. I feel thrown into something I didn't choose. I wish Steve were here. He could help me with this. I'm not asking him to run it, but... I miss him. I miss Clint. I... I just need to keep doing this so they can have their peace, their lives, and their justice."

"If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know," he told her, "Including if you need to get away for a bit. Time travel means we can do exactly that and come back to exactly where you left off. In the mean time, I've still been trying to figure out if there's anything I can do to undo this, but since it involves time itself, it's a rather difficult thing. There's certain points in time that are fixed and certain points in time that can be changed and are in flux, and for some reason, that snap doesn't seem to qualify as either."

Natasha frowned and shook her head. "The Infinity Stones aren't things that can be easily messed with, it seems," she admitted. "And there isn't much that can be done. I don't know where Thanos went anyway. If he even survived having that much power in his body and everything."

The woman took a breath and looked up at him. "Maybe... Maybe I need to be out doing something. So... can we go do something in space and time?"

The Doctor smiled brightly, happy to see her looking up a bit. "Of course," he told her, "Do you have something specific in mind, or would you like me to just pick something?"

"Just... Pick something," she answered. "It'll be easier that way."

The Doctor thought for a moment. "There's nobody in history that you'd want to meet?" he asked.

She shook her head and shrugged. "No. I didn't learn much about history where I was. It wasn't important. And what we learned, we didn't form an opinion on. So there's no point to it. I'll be happy to just get out of this moment."

"Well... Let's see what today brings besides making me another year older."

"Or Disney World," she offered. "They say Disney is the 'happiest place in the world' so maybe that is one of the best places. And if we do Disney World, I think there's another park nearby it too. There's a lot of them... I've just never been."

"Disney World is it," he told her as he programmed the coordinates and pulled the last lever for the TARDIS to take off.

Natasha smiled at him and braced herself as the TARDIS took off. She wouldn't ever get used to this feeling probably.

"We are here," he told her, "We've landed right inside the park." He opened the doors to lead the way outside.

The woman smiled and looked around. She'd seen so many movies about people visiting the place, heard so many stories, and now... it was her turn. "Wait... we need passes or something, right?" she asked, looking over to the Doctor as she stepped out.

The Doctor took out his psychic paper. "Passes are taken care of," he assured her as he lead the way through the front gate.

The redhead furrowed her brows and blinked when he just pulled out the paper. How did he... nope. Nope! Not going to question it. It's time for fun and fancy free. It's her birthday and she's going to celebrate it in the best way. She grabbed his arm gently and walked ahead, rather quickly and excitedly.

When they were given admission, she looked up and smiled at the castle in the distance. She remembered watching all the old movies to learn English back at the Red Room, and now she was here of her own choice on a day that was all about celebrating the extended life she'd been given thanks to that hell. "This is going to be one of the best birthdays ever."

"And you can choose everything we do," he told her. He had been to the park a few times and wasn't that picky anyway. It was also her birthday after all. "So, what do you want to do first? What do you want to see? What do you want to ride?"

She looked around at everything and bit her lip. There was so much here and she tilted her head. She didn't know where to start! "I... I don't know," she admitted. "Maybe we should start with rides. Let's... let's do a roller coaster. I want try the easiest one first."

"Well, I see one over there that looks relatively easy," he told her, "Why don't we get in line? Actually, I can probably get us to the front of the line."

She smiled at him and nodded happily. "Yes. I like this idea. I should have looked at a list of rides before we came," she admitted a bit sheepishly. "But it's going to be fun." The redhead moved over into the line and stood waiting patiently, pulling out her phone and looking up the list of things to do at the park.

The Doctor used the psychic paper to make it look like they had a pass to skip the lines and got them to the front of the line for the very next ride.

Natasha blinked as the FastPasses appeared. "Well okay," she said with a smile, moving over to the line that would get them onto the ride faster. The closer she got, the more nervous she was feeling. What if something happened? What if things went wrong? What if they got stuck? "Or maybe we should just forgo the whole thing..."

"I thought you really wanted to do this for your birthday?" the Doctor asked, "We can just forget the whole thing if you want, but if you'd never done this before, it's worth experiencing once." He then thought for a moment about reasons why she might want to leave. "Wait, you aren't afraid, are you?" he asked, "All the bad guys and aliens you've faced, there's no way you'd be afraid of a rollercoaster, right?"

Natasha bit her cheek and looked at him. "Me? Afraid..." she said, letting the sentence trail off. "I... I don't know." She frowned and looked at the ground. "I see the children going and having fun after they were terrified... but what if it's not as fun as I think it might be? What if it's a let down?"

"Then we go find something else you might enjoy more," he told her, "There's no guarantee of course, but you won't know until you try. If you don't like it, we don't have to do it again. We can go do something else. If you do like it, we can do it again. You get something you enjoy either way."

She bit her cheek and mustered her courage. If little kids could do this, she could too. "Okay. Let's go try it," Natasha said, taking a deep breath. "I can do this."

Selene nodded as he accepted the test. "I don't need any extra thanks," she replied as she finished up with him. She grabbed another sharp and took his blood, labeling the vial with his name and the tests she wanted run. Bandaging him up, the doctor watched the pair with keen eyes.

"Now... why don't you rest here for a moment? I'll be back with a bit of instructions for home care. Sure you heal quickly, but I'm not sure how quickly and I want to make sure that doesn't scar. Natasha sat in the nursery in the middle of the night with the baby as she slept. It was so surreal for her that she got a second chance at this. She heard the familiar footfalls down the hallway and smiled. It was a miracle to get the baby down so quickly and if her work was ruined...

Natasha picked up the order, the young man behind the counter recognizing her and mentioning he put in a little of their new dessert for the pair to try at lunch. The redhead thanked him and Penelope waved a little bit, causing the cashier to emotionally melt as Natasha left the shop. Her next stop was Clint and she was there in a jiffy.

Bringing the baby and their lunch in, she noticed there weren't many people at the range. Maybe she needed to find some way to spice up some business for him. What could they do?

Clint was so buried in his paperwork that he didn't notice their arrival right away.

But once he did, he fairly beamed to see the love of his life and their daughter as he stood up to greet them--and to take Penelope into his arms.

Natasha smiled at him and winked. She handed over Penelope and then gave him a kiss. "Hi there," she greeted. "I'll set up the lunch. You have a good day today?"

Clint cradled Penelope in his arms as they kissed.

"More like a not terrible one," he replied. "Doing paperwork still sucks."

The redhead smiled at his words as she set up their lunch on the desk. "It does. But you need to keep it up to keep this place up and running. Supplies don't order themselves," she replied. "But that's why I got you your favorite."

Natasha hadn't made the best choices when she was younger. She fell into a group of people that never really had her best interests in mind because she was new and the foreigner. So anything could be passed off on her being from another country.

When she got her life together, she thought she'd met someone good finally. After a year of dating, she found herself pregnant and then alone. With her water breaking during her college graduation, her life was set on a path that day. And when she welcomed her daughter Rosetta, her world turned into a tiny little figure in her arms.

Years passed and she worked with a company that worked with her needs of time off for the baby. Now that Rose was able to be in a daycare, Natasha was picky. After a week at this new place and Rose telling her all about Mr. B... she wanted to enroll her in for a few months. So she stood at the counter, waiting for the secretary to pull files and contracts for her.

Rosetta shook her head and climbed up into the car and into her seat. "Tada!" she exclaimed happily.

Clint grinned.

"Amazing," he declared proudly. "Now let's get you buckled in."

Rose smiled at him and helped him get her buckled up. She wiggled a bit when she was finished and smiled brightly. "Now home!"

Natasha was finishing up with her dressing, hair, and makeup. Sighing, she would much rather be at home with her daughter tonight.

[ DISCOVER ]  for receiver to find sender at the end of a trail of blood. --@shieldagentcoulson

Avatar

Natasha hadn't known what to expect when the coms went dark, but she knew it wouldn't be pretty. So she went to the last known location of her handler and followed anything suspicious. And when she saw blood, it terrified her inside. She tracked it to its source and she gasped seeing Coulson.

"What the hell happened, Coulson?" She asked, rushing to him and immediately looking him over for any extra injuries.

Avatar

Phil groaned every time he was jostled.

It took him a moment to answer her question.

"If he's being stupid, he's still here," Phil mumbled, "and he's not usually stupid, but he attacked me when he could have just left undiscovered."

Phil also had a feeling the better move was to take him back to Shield Medical first, but he also knew that if Milvernon was still in the area, this was their only chance to get him.

The woman did her best to keep him still and steady. She knew there were two options and both of them ended up in some kind of possible loss. And she wasn't about to lose Coulson. She'd find the asshole who did this to him another day. She'd make sure of it.

"Not if he was trying to send a message to you and Clint," she pointed out. "But we're going to worry about it later. You're going to medical and then I'll finish things up. Okay? I just need you to stay with me."

"I hate going to medical almost as much as Clint does," Phil groaned. "Not to mention that we'd lose Milvernon again."

He closed his eyes as the pain in his side flared, engulfing his senses.

"Which means you like it about a quarter more than I do," she teased lightly. "But you need to be seen. I'm no medic and I'm not losing you. I was sent after people like this before. I'll finish it after I make sure you're stable. Do you understand me, Phil? You're the most important thing here. Not the mission."

"The mission comes first," Phil insisted. "Milvernon can't be allowed to get away, Natasha."

"And your life comes before that," she argued. "I'm not bringing you home in a body bag! I don't have much that can be used for healthcare. I'm designed to take lives, not save them, remember?"

"I'll be fine," Phil insisted with a groan. "It's just a flesh wound."

It was quite obviously not 'just a flesh wound', but Phil was ever an agent of Shield first and foremost.

"Listen here Monty Python," she sassed, narrowing her eyes. "It's more than that and you know it. But I might be able to do this quickly. You call in your evac and I'll be back in under six minutes."

Natasha gently set him down and gave him a stern look. "Do it. Don't worry about me. I'll get out."

Phil nodded.

"Six minutes exactly," he said firmly. "Or I'm going in after you, stab wound or not. I'm not losing you either."

"Six minutes and you're calling evac with or without me," she counters just as firmly. "I'm more stubborn and probably older than you. Don't test me Coulson. I don't matter. You do. Now go."

Natasha narrowed her eyes at him and glared before turning around and dashing off to follow the target.

The Doctor walked out of his TARDIS and down the hallway of what looked like an abandoned building. After having set the randomizer, he wasn’t completely sure where he was, but it seemed interesting enough.

He walked down the hall just a bit more, only to have a gun pointed right at him by a red haired woman dressed in mostly black. “Well, this isn’t any fun,” he stated as he raised his hands in surrender. It was not the first time he started an adventure by being captured.

Natasha pinched the bridge of her nose and huffed. "I was running from the government because I wouldn't follow through with something they were demanding of me and my teammates," she explained. "I was wiping my trail from their system so they couldn't find me for a while so I could try and be free. I wanted oversight for our team yes. But not handcuffs and leashes! They were going to hang us with them. They'd send us out for things that maybe didn't need us and keep us from things that we needed to be there for. The team needed to be held accountable, yes. I agree. But damn if we didn't try our hardest to not lose that many lives. Is it a tragedy? Yes. But sometimes they're unavoidable."

She heaved a sigh and shook her head before looking around. "Why here?"

"I'm sorry that happened," he told her, "You are welcome to hide out on my TARDIS as long as you need and I'd be happy to help in any way that I can." He then smiled at her next question. "I don't know," he told her, smiling bright and clearly excited, "No idea why the TARDIS brought us here. I set the randomizer. Usually when it brings me someplace, it's because I'm needed there."

"Shit happens," she replied simply. "As for hiding out with you, I'd rather you not get caught up with me and end up having to be on the run too." Natasha frowned a bit and then listened to his answer.

"So... what do you do?"

"I'm always on the run anyway," he told her, "That's pretty much what I do. I'm a traveler, traveling through all of time and space. I don't really have a permanent home, besides the TARDIS that is."

"Being on the run from whatever you're running from is a little different than harboring a fugitive from the World Security Council and the United Nations when you're running around on Earth is a bit different in my mind," she explained, shrugging her shoulders. "But it's your decision."

"Why does one have to be on the run from something?" he asked her, "I'm not really on the run from anyone or anything. I'm just on the run, always going somewhere. Lots to see and plenty to do. Here, let me show you." He smiled and began to program coordinates into the TARDIS.

"Because prison sucks and I don't want to be locked up because I made a choice to stand up for a former lover who doesn't remember me and his best friend who I may or may not connect with," she answered quickly. "Wait... didn't you say if it took you someplace then you're needed here? Why not fix whatever it is and then you show me."

"I think you misunderstood my question. You can be on the run without having to run from something. Not everyone always has to have a reason. I just happen to enjoy it," he smirked and then thought for a moment about her question. "Usually if the TARDIS takes me somewhere against my will, it does usually mean I'm needed for something but it isn't always obvious what."

"Fair enough," she admitted, holding a hand up in surrender. "But. Let's go ahead and see if we can fix whatever it is."

"If there's anything to fix, it's not guaranteed," he told her, "Usually I just go sight seeing and the trouble shows up eventually. Why don't we head towards the pyramids?"

"Sure. Why not?" She agreed. "I want to see how this was all done."

"Relax, and just let me kiss you." (americashielded)

"You know if you just wanted me to be quiet... This is an amazing way of doing it."

"Well...that wasn't really my intention," Steve murmured, punctuating his thought with another kiss to Natasha's lips as his arms slowly wrapped around her waist. "You almost make it sound as if I need an excuse like that to kiss you. I just want to enjoy the time off that we have right now. We don't get nearly enough of it, especially not alone together."

Being in the Avengers Compound didn't always give them a lot of space when there were four others to consider...or five when Tony was around, and that was only thinking about The Avengers themselves. There were often others here too, though they worked in areas away from the Avengers' common areas and living quarters, and didn't live here as most of their team did. Steve wanted to enjoy an opportunity like this when they had the time, and they certainly did in that moment.

Natasha smiled at him as he spoke before he kissed her again. She enjoyed the kisses placed on her lips. Her hands cupped his face and she moved closer to him. "You never need an excuse," she assured. "But we are still at work, so I didn't think we wanted people to know. However, I don't mind telling the world." She smiled brighter and looked up into his eyes. He made her happy and she felt like she was enough.

Sure she didn't like the fact that she needed to walk on eggshells and take moments she wanted with him. The others in the Compound would turn this into something more than it was, probably. "So are we sneaking a moment alone together, or are we able to maybe have dinner out?"

"Yeah, well, if you're really that concerned about it, I don't see anyone else here right now, and while I know FRIDAY is keeping an eye out on things in general, I trust her to keep secrets like this well enough so long as they're not brought up. It's not exactly the most relevant information to what The Avengers do on a day-to-day basis anyway." Admittedly, he hadn't made up his mind if he should just throw caution to the wind and not worry if everyone else knew or not or let things be for now. But, in the end, he felt like that should really more up to Natasha

"It's your decision though, but just know that I'm not looking forward to that conversation if that ever does come around, only because I know I'll never hear the end of it from Sam."

Steve took the opportunity he had to steal another kiss while he had the chance before offering her a proper reply. "Well, I guess that depends on what you want, Nat. If you wanna find another place for us to be away from everyone else, I'm okay with that."

Natasha shrugged her shoulders as she listened to him. It wasn't as if she wanted to hide what they were, but she knew it would make things a bit easier if they were just kind of naturally found out. "I appreciate her, but this should be something people just find out on their own," she admitted. "And we should probably let Sam find out first because if he finds out last, we're both in shit."

She grinned against his lips when he kissed her, moving her hand up to his cheek. "I don't mind. Whatever makes you happiest right now," she replied. "I do expect dinner though."

The redhead pressed closer to him and kissed his jawline before stepping back. "What else is on the agenda today though?"

Natasha looked down at the boy and arched an eyebrow, grabbing another rag. "I could have taken care of that. Why would you do such a thing?" she asked calmly, even if her tone had a bit of a worried edge to it.

The redhead heard him mention his metabolism and blinked a bit. That... these things he was saying about his condition, it all sounded way too familiar. Maybe she needed to have a conversation with Clint more than Lukas. If there was someone else like her that had had a child, maybe that meant she could have the same chance.

"Well that's interesting," Selene mentioned, listening to him. "Do you know if it's genetic? Or have they done testing to see if it's actually that and not something worse? If they haven't, I can easily run some tests for you. By the way, do you know your blood type? It'll be useful in case you start making a habit of doing something like this."

The doctor sutured away and sealed up the one wound. Luckily it was a through and through so she didn't have to deal with the round. "If you'll lean forward or turn in the chair, I'll get the back."

Lukas does as the Doctor orders and sighs. He doesn't know much about his past. Looking up, seeing Nat standing there- he knows she would protect him and his past. "I dont know. My dad adopted me when I was roughly three months old. I don't even know my blood type." The teen admits. "Is it safe to say classified information in here Aunt Nat?" He asks, wincing as he feels the pain.

Taking a deep breath, after looking at Nat. Lukas figured this Selene would keep this all off the record. "Now I say can't be repeated, Doc. My dad found me in a NICU type of hospital that was ran by a group. Dad never told me the group. He thought they were doing experiments on me."

The teen looks at Nat before looking at the doctor. "All that was known about me was on the crib. December 9th, Lukas. The card is Russian. No blood type, no parents name. Nothing. But that is all in the past. Dad loves me and I have the best family."

Natasha nodded to answer his question before he began telling his story. She'd never pried and asked Clint any of this. She figured if she needed to know, he'd tell her. He never spoke of it, so she never asked. But as she listened, she frowned slightly.

Selene tilted her head slightly as she listened to Lukas. "You have an amazing family," she agreed, continuing her work. "I just wonder about your health. I can run some tests and everything to see how you are with genetics and your blood type so you know it in the future. Is that alright?"

"I'm going to one," she answered. "It's a thing I have to go to thanks to status as 'Avenger'. It's not my favorite, but I do miss my friends a little bit." Before she opened the gift, she went to grab her gift to him. It was a bit of a joke since she'd found out about him. The Time Lord should be able to keep time no matter what. So she'd asked Tony to help her with this. Inside the box was a specialized pocket watch, an antique brought into the modern day. It was linked to multiple smaller pocket watches so the Doctor could give them to those he wanted to check in on. The pocket watch would be able to give a hologram and communicate with all parties if the Doctor wanted it to. Natasha wasn't certain how Tony knew it would work for the Doctor since he traveled time and space, but she trusted the inventor with this.

Handing over the box to her friend, she smiled a bit. "It's probably not something useful to you since you can probably find something better in all of space and time, but I thought it might be nice for you... plus a little bit of a joke," the redhead admitted. She hadn't really known what to get someone who could have anything they wanted. But all of that was put aside when she opened the gift he gave her. It was so much! She marveled at each item, looking a little quizzically at the screwdriver before smiling. "Thank you! These are lovely."

And then the guilt for his gift came back. He'd gotten her so much and she had given him so little.

The Doctor opened the gift and looked at the watch. "It's fantastic," he told her happily as he put the watch on his wrist. "What do you think of your gift?" he asked her.

She smiled at him and shook her head. "It's a pocket watch," she mentioned. "I don't think you'll find it stays well on your wrist." Natasha snuggled into the sweater and smiled a bit brighter. "I love them. The fact you made these by hand is so special."

"Well, most of them," he told her, "I made the sweater for sure, yes."

She smiled and nodded. "Yes. That's what I mean," she remarked. She then looked at the screwdriver and arched an eyebrow. "And this?"

"It's almost identical to my own," he told her, "You've seen me use my sonic screwdriver quite a bit. I figured you might be able to use one with your life being what it is."

"I figured it was that... but I wouldn't know how to use it," she pointed out. "I worry I'll do something completely wrong with it. Guess that means you'll need to teach me."

"There's not much to teach," he told her, "As long as you know what it's capable of doing, you can use it. It's mostly pressing a button and thinking."

"And isn't this thing pretty much capable of doing anything and everything?" She asked. "I think I need a list of what it can do so I don't screw up and mess with the timelines."

"I'll get you a list," he told her, "But I assure you, it isn't capable of messing up with the timelines. You have nothing to worry about in that regards. It mostly scans for stuff and interacts with technology. It can unlock doors, hack different devices, all sorts of things. It can not interact with anything made of wood though."

Natasha nodded when he mentioned the list and smiled a bit. "Well... that's very helpful," she remarked, thinking of all the uses it had in her job. "It might even make some of my jobs go a bit faster."

"Yes," the Doctor agreed, "That along with the psychic paper should help you a lot I imagine. I put some other stuff in there that was meant to help you with your job, although I'm not sure how useful it might actually be."

"Well the thought is appreciated," she replied with a smile. "Anyway... I'm not sure what else we should do. I'm not very good with holidays."

"We can eat, if you'd like?" he suggested, "I'm sure I can fix us up an amazing holiday dinner."

"Only if I help. You've done enough for me," she mentioned, looking up at him. "And soon we'll go to the party."

"Oh yes, your party," the Doctor asked, "I suppose a dinner now might not make much sense if you are just going to eat there."

"How about holiday appetizers and then you join me at the party?" she compromised with a smile. "I think you might like some of my companions."

"I'd be happy to join you," he told her, "Sounds fun."

"Then that's what we'll do," she agreed.

"Besides just being a Christmas party, is there anything else I should know about it?" the Doctor asked her.

"It's got my teammates," she replied. "And some other high profile people who want to rub elbows with superheroes."
