               she waited for a while, trying to calm her breathing. the arm around her made her feel safer, which was probably why she didn’t leave much anymore. or why eddie was reluctant to let her on the rare times that she did. after a few more minutes, she shifted slightly, then glanced over to look at eddie. immediately, a small smile spread on her lips,

eddie was rubbing sleep out of his eyes. riddled with anxieties about dee’s safety, he didn’t want her to leave his side. he was comforted by the sweet smell of her hair, and how soft her sleeping breaths were. once he realized she was awake he looked over at her and gave her a very tired smile. 

❛ oh no, i was already awake. i slept fine, thank you. how did you sleep? ❜

❛       nobody did anything to me. i shouldn’t even be here,   i am not hurt. this is simply a waste of medical supplies   and i am sure my line of work does not supply health insurance.   ❜

he very clearly was healing from multiple severe wounds.his skin flushed, he appeared very weak. but eddie would never admit that.

               she ignores any and all protests, a satisfied smile on her face as he follows her. a small laugh as he pulls her down next to her, the grin only widening as she looks at him with that common expression of adoration. she curls into him, forehead against his chest. him being awake usually meant her being awake, so she was almost just as tired. but she fought the urge to sleep until she could feel the shallow, relaxed breaths from him.

               it had to have been at least four hours, before she found herself awake with eyes suddenly wide open, a small gasp escaping her as she glanced around the room, mind muddled and heart racing. then she felt arms around her, and it didn’t take long for her to remember where she was. a sigh of relief. her body relaxed only slightly, and she didn’t take a glance to see if eddie was awake yet or not. she just took his limp hand and brought it to her lips, pressing a small kiss to it.

eddie’s eyes opened wide when he felt the abrupt movement of diedre waking up scared. he didn’t move because they were both too comfortable, he just tightened his tightened his hold and kissed the top of her head. he laid there, not going back to sleep but thinking about how guilty he felt. that she was constantly on edge and he could do nothing to help her, but try and make her feel safe. it wasn’t long after he laid there stewing uncomfortable thoughts that he decided he wasn’t going back to sleep. yet he remained still listening to the hum of diedre’s sleeping breaths.
