@the-muse-of-animation​ posted some awesome scenery from She-ra, and I thought I’d take a closer look to see if I could identify some of the other parents by their runestones. Except I realized, unless the First Ones use a different glyph system, these aren’t any of the same runestones.

There’s a headband lady with a diamond, an insect person with a leaf (Sweet Bee?), a guy in a turban, a woman in a kimono with ???, and a blonde guy holding a marijuana leaf. It might actually be a flower, but either way this dude has got to belong to Perfuma’s dad. We’ve identified one parent!

I guess the turban man and kimono woman could be Mermista’s parents, but they’re not particularly mermaidy-looking.

There is a lady on the right with sort of similar glyph to the Fractal Flake, but think based on the star headdress those are supposed to be yet another incarnation of the Star Sisters. Not the Star Siblings, who are from a different planet, but the Etherian princesses who were at prom:

So probably just a star glyph and not related to Frosta. The diamond lady looks kind of warmly dressed with a possibly Inuit inspired headband, except it’s implied that Snows was never part of the original alliance and shouldn’t even be on here?

Anyway, the conclusion I’m drawing is that these are just random people, There Is No Lore, and the crew was just making up everything as they went along.

Oh, and either Spinerella used to be skinnier or the mural artist took some liberties!

She-Ra fanfic writers, activate WORLD BUILDING POWERS! If the show won’t give us lore, we’ll create it ourselves.

Among my fav headcanons is the one that Entrapta is a WOC, but a middle-east coded one. I was going to do a veeeery long and veeeeery boring post about how one could interpret Entrapta as a caucasian, provided that she is either Lebanese, Iranian, Berber, Optoman-Arabic, or maybe from Sri Lanka idk, is whatever. It was a post meant to explain how you can be caucasian and not white at the same time, filled with an emberassing amount of Spop theories. Soooo maybe the man with the turbant is a relative on Entrapta’s side. When we first see the chairs in S1 Ep 4

There’s like this emphasis on these three chairs; one is Mermista’s, one is Perfuma’s and the other, to me, is Entrapta’s. I mean it’s quite spartan, functional, has a little metal thingy on the top (let’s not forget Dryl is a mining kingdom). So I don’t know, to me those three people seem likely to be the relatives of the three princesses, they are all togheter like the three chairs. (…wtf does that mean…oh well, it’s still more of a thought than the one provided by the writers). The man who looks like a genderbent Perfuma has a leaf, the woman has something like a drop of water on her hand and she appears to wear something similar to a very modest indian sari (don’t know you guys, but Mermista looks pretty indian in her princess prom outfit); the arabic one might posses Entrapta’s “lost power”. Everything is possible, metal, earth, jewel powers; I remember that in the comics Entrapta was called “the golden beauty” because of her ability to turn everything she touched into gold. Again, everything is allowed, I personally like to indulge in the idea that a mining kingdom has a power connected to something useful to the kingdom itself, or something that at lists reflects its opulence. Furthermore the whole Crypto Castle looks similar to two things:

1) Rapunzel’s tower (voice in my head: “by the gods Flox, enough with this Rapunzel no sense!” Me: “ehy, but Rapunzel is autistic and purple! I like autistic and purple, and so does Entrapta!”) Plussss the whole hair thing

2) to a building with arabic architecture:

Interesting! I could definitely see her as Middle-East coded, and this guy doesn’t seem to have a magic glyph. The robot parent picture would have been in the early days of the Etherian Horde, so I figured her parents were already gone before the Alliance was a thing, but maybe she had an uncle or someone filling in as regent? Or maybe he was a king with no heirs and his niece was next in line.

I can see what you mean about the sari and the water, since Mermista’s prom outfit is identified as a sari in the concept art (which makes me think they mistook Vella Lovell for Indian and based the character around it 😼) Though she only mentioned her dad being part of the alliance and giving her the kingdom. Or they could both be Mermista’s and that’s supposed to be an Indian turban.

I can also buy that the Inuit-ish woman is Frosta’s relative despite the wooly continuity, but what is with the random bug lady?

About the voice actress ohhh yh It could be, or at least the wanted a very brown caucasian (we are really putting a lot of thought…but really I just imagine them chosing voice actor with just a similar “color skin”). I could really talk for hours about ethnicity, maybe I will in the future.

About the paintings, ok…wanna know the truth? These paintings give me the creeps. I mean we have a present time Castaspella (what chances are there that this is just another Mystacor leader with the same dress and hair style) and a present time Netossa. Then, what about the other? SPINNERELLA DOESN’T HAVE FRECKLES! Who are these people. About the bug, looks like somebody from Elberon. The show runners said there were 14 Runestone in the past, not just 6 (again there’s the theory of Entrapta’s Runestone, the purple Little Runestone in Bow’s dads’ library). I’m just surprised that everyone has a power and, about the “bug princess” she has a leaf. What…are bug royals the Walmart version of plumerian royals or vice versa? …

Vella Lovell is half black/half white but everyone assumes Indian. (there’s a joke on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend where someone tries to give her a sari) I think she was Noelle’s first choice for the part, basically playing the same character as CXG. The concept art even has an alternative “western” prom dress for her, so there must have been some sort of discussion.

Everyone looks the same except for Spinerella, who’s not only thinner but the skinniest figure on the entire mural. So I guess Spinny gained some weight since she was a teen (realistic!) but Casta and Netossa didn’t change their look at all.

I guess Elberon lost their princess/runestone and got demoted from kingdom to small town with mayor?

I freely confess I, a non-Jew with so many close Jewish friends throughout my life, still hadn't fully appreciated or connected the dots about this response until a very close friend of mine wrote this.

Hound your representatives to deny McConnel and Trump the votes for replacing RGB until, at very least, the winner of the 2020 election is seated. After all, "The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president." -Senator Mitch McConnel, in February 2016!

Vote this November. Vote Democrat down the entire ballot. However deeply flawed and unprogressive our options are, our lives depend on not letting the authoritarians and far right grind us down and win.

So every day for the last month, I've been writing a prequel series fic for She-Ra (SPoP) centered around Mara. I completed "Book 1" of the series and I'm onto "Book 2" now. If you wanted to see Mara's journey as a quiet woman with an anxiety disorder to a tool for destruction, eventually becoming a hero, please check out "Entropy: All Stars Must Fade." Consider: Perhaps, until Krytis, there was just a fun little Defect...

[CW: PG rating; subtle physical abuse, gaslighting, and PTSD; possible Horde Prime/Hordak-but it ends on Entrapdak hurt/comfort & coping techniques] – “Collapsed again, haven’t you?” Three soft points of pressure tinged off the nerves in the defective gap between his forearm bones. One sharp metal point drew screeching sparks he could not wrench away from. Horde Prime wavered back and forth, blurring into two and four and nine of himself. Glorious and resplendent with his brilliant green teeth and smile-spread lips. The clone registered that he could not fully control his own eyes. Not because Big Brother was guiding his vessel in service, sadly. It was the defect being defective again. Defective with so much lack of conscious clarity, and with pain so deep that his eyeballs were wobbling back and forth within the sockets, struggling and unable to still themselves enough to focus. “Ahh, my most delicate of brothers,” Big Brother crooned. “Come. Rest. Krytis will await the return of your strongest strength.” Strength. Yes. The clone’s defective body has forged conquest and tenacity into his strongest and fiercest of Devotional Skills as recompense. There are no imperfections within the Glorious Horde Prime’s Brothers. The DNA of this one clone body is defective. Defects are by definition Imperfect. But there are no imperfections within Horde Prime’s Glorious Empire. Lord Prime keeps him so close. The defect pleases his Beloved Brother with the novelties of his form. Serves the spread of Prime’s Glorious Light and Peace more fiercely than his equal brothers. He is especially Favored, the voice that is also his own whispers. The contradiction pangs in his head. But he is so tired with pain, and Krytis awaits. – “…ordak…-safe. …Hordak? Hordak!” “En…Entrapta…?”

“Hordak, you’re safe. I’m here, we’re in bed. You’re safe.” Hands and hair are wrapped around his forearms. Wholly wrapped around. Not invading the gap in the middle. Vambraces made of her gentlest skin and hair, shielding and protecting. “You’re safe. It’s okay. Your Imperfections are–?” “…Beautiful. Loved,” he rasps. ”Mm-hmm!” He shudders, but everything he feels is soft, and warm, and comforting. Safe. Loved… “You gave me…?”

“The stars,” and he smiles, red-teethed and safe.

– Why yes, I am writing a bit more with this idea than what I’ve shared here. I personally partake of the semi-AU-semi-headcanon idea that Prime, for a time,  rather enjoyed Hordak’s defective traits as they manifested. Interesting, fun novelties to toy with. (How far the “enjoyment” went is…up for variation). I personally usually go for the take that Hordak’s defect was entirely an accidental mutation/glitch, but it can certainly still fit with preferences for Prime to have caused it. Then a newer possible addition occurred to me: When Krytis didn’t go the way Prime wanted, why, he was Quite Done with the Embarrassing little defect anyway! Oh the irony.

Between Friday September 18th at sundown and Sunday September 20th at sundown in observance of Rosh Hashanah.

Between Sunday September 27th at sundown to Monday September 28th at sundown. in observance of Yom Kippur.

Between Friday, October 2nd at sundown and Sunday, October 4th at Sundown in honor of the first days of the Festival of Sukkot.

Between Friday, October 9th at sundown and October 11th at sundown in observance of the end of Sukkot, Shmini Atzeret, and Simchat Torah.

Curious how to greet your Jewish loved ones throughout these holidays and festival?  (This is ESPECIALLY important this year because so many of us feel alone– wish your friends a happy holiday!)  Hebrew and English variations are all appropriate.

“Shana Tova!” (”Happy New Year!”) – especially appropriate on Rosh Hashanah, but appropriate throughout the High Holy Day season.

“l’Shana Tova u’metuka!” (”Have a sweet and happy new year!”)  Similar to the above, especially appropriate on Rosh Hashanah, but appropriate throughout the High Holy Day season.

“Chag Sameach” (“Happy Holiday”) – appropriate on Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah

“Have a Meaningful Day”  – appropriate for Yom Kippur

“Have an easy/meaningful fast”  – appropriate for Yom Kippur, but only if you know that the person is choosing to fast this year.  O

I enjoyed every moment of interaction Hordak with Imp. In my opinion, their relationship is similar to that of an older brother and a younger one. I don’t know, is it a fact or theory that the Imp is an unsuccessful clone of Hordak, but I agree with that. As a result of Hordak’s imperfect work on his own genome (probably due to the fact that his genome is defective), Imp doesn’t develop, doesn’t grow, doesn’t talk, and has the intellect of a child. Nevertheless, the difference between the relationship of Hordak to Imp and Hord Prime to Hordak is so significant. And if Hordak is emotionally vulnerable, capable of affection and trust, then Hord Prime doesn’t know how to love, has no affection (at least for the moment) and does not have compassion. But back to Imp. Imp serves Hordak for certain purposes (namely, internal espionage), but this did not happen immediately. I think when Imp was born, Hordak left him only because he is more like his brothers than anyone else on Etheria. He was a living representative of his species and then, as time passed, Imp became the only one for Hordak whom he trusted and who were in an emotional bond with him.

The first appearance of Imp. He sits on Hordak’s lap. Not on the floor, not near the feet. He jumps on Hordak without any fear and settles down there, very pleased with himself.

For Hordak, who is trying to match the gloomy imperious character of the Hord Prime, such an open manifestation of friendliness and affection is very strange. Especially in front of his subordinates, whom he wants to intimidate. It seems to me that everyone in the Horde thinks that this is his real son.

Imp is happy when he successfully fulfills the orders of Hordak.

Trying to be as formidable as an older brother

My favorite Hordak + Imp moment.

Hordak believes that, here it is, at last the portal will work, and Imp nearby also rejoices at his success. But then the portal machine explodes and Imp, feeling quite relaxed when no one is around, even makes fun of his brother. And notice how Hordak pushes Imp from the shoulder without any aggression (I would even say pretty gently). In general, Hordak never shows aggression to Imp as such. I see this scene like this: you are doing a serious job, and your little brother is spinning next. And when something doesn’t work out for you, and you are annoyed … and confess who have younger brothers and sisters .. They like to see us unhappy, they can laugh and run mockingly from us, but they really do not wish us any harm. Kids just like to see our sullen face for some reason.

And then the demon copies the voice of Hordak “Useless”, and apparently represents himself big and formidable. It reminds me a bit of the moment when Simba was trying to learn how to growl like Mufasa.

Imp clearly does not like Catra and he does not hide his discontent. He tries to make her feel awkward, and also does not show any negative emotions when Hordak tortures Catra with his suffocating machine.

I think this is due to the fact that Hordak himself does not like Catra. Little spy more often saw Catra, heard and watched her actions and conversations, and he also knows about Hordak’s vulnerable body, and I think Imp believes that Catra is bad. At least in his value system. He understands that Catra is ambitious and cunning enough to pose a real threat to Hordak’s hierarchical position.

The first real interaction between Imp and Entrapta. I love the way they interact with Entrapta the same way. At first, he is furious as well as Hordak.

Then also embarrassed and interested in this.

And when he takes the screwdriver away from her, it’s more like as fun than threat and anger. Imp is insightful and immediately understands that Entrapta is not dangerous to them.

And of course, I as Entrapdak’s shipper, was very happy when Imp took Entrapta into the family circle and protected her and Hordak from the intervention of Catra.

Next time we see the whole “family” already in the 3 season. Both Hordak and Imp feel are comfortable with Entrapta. Imp agrees with Entrapta when she says that this was only the first test, and then protects and leads her away when he realizes that Hordak is too angry to reason sensibly and logically.

It is noteworthy that when Entrapta first sees Hordak without armor and he is angry and tells her to get out, there is no anger or aggression on the face of Imp. He is at a loss, but knows (I think, like Hordak) that she is not dangerous. Imp in his attitude to people relies on Hordak, but next to Entrapta he can show his own emotions, he is guided by his observations and knows that the princess cannot harm Hordak or him.

He only shows concern when Hordak falls.

Hordak doesn’t eat soup prepared by Entrapta, but still, like a caring brother, offers it to Imp. I mean, he didn’t throw the tray away and didn’t sent her to hell. Hordak, realizing that she makes it for him, does not want her work to be wasted. Of course, this does not negate the fact that Entrapta does not know how to cook, but all this is pretty sweet.

I like how Hordak and Imp look at each other in a silent question.

The beautiful scene where Hordak is surrounded by his associates, creatures whom he fully trusts and feels affection. And how Imp admires Entrapta and copies how she sits cross-legged.

And of course, this scene, beloved by all, when Imp kicks (!) Hordak, when he, in his opinion, did not speak well enough about the technical improvement of the armor.

This is all so significant for all three (+ Emily, of course). They all feel relaxed, comfortable with each other, Hordak allows himself to be vulnerable and grateful, Imp feels independent and confident, even when there are other creatures nearby, and Entrapta sees how much they appreciates her efforts and how it REALLY makes Hordak’s life better.

In season 4, when they re-exist without Entrapta and their fraternal relations have returned to their usual rut. The demon makes fun of Hordak, but now Hordak is more angry, because losing a woman is a more personal problem for him than a broken portal. Imp also does not like Catra and copies the behavior and attitude of Hordak to strangers. For example, distrust, but also tacit agreement with the presence of Double Trouble.

I very hope for more interaction between Imp and Entrapta in the new season. This kid should get more screen time. And they must save Hordak.

For artists who have problems with perspective (furniture etc.) in indoor scenes like me - there’s an online programm called roomsketcher where you can design a house/roon and snap pictures of it using different perspectives.

It’s got an almost endless range of furniture, doors, windows, stairs etc and is easy to use. In addition to that, you don’t have to install anything and if you create an account (which is free) you can save and return to your houses.

So I’ve been thinking about how unsettling it is that Entrapta likes to chill in the vents and also has hair like a candy flavored horror movie monster. I imagine the Fright Zone is like a friendly Dead Space level with her around.
