After flying through We Have Always Lived in the Castle (oh my god, Shirley Jackson is so good), I’m back to an old favorite: Elizabeth Hardwick. This isn’t usually thought of as her best attempt at fiction, but few writers have the kind of inimitable prose style she does, so eager to see if I like it…
When we think about Truth… we shouldn’t think of it as an abstract concept. We should think of it as a person. God is truth. That means that falsehood is, by it’s very nature, contrary to God. So think about that next time you’re tempted to tell a “white lie.” Think to yourself… is my convenience worth denying the nature and being of God?
I don’t think so.
Ouch. Thanks so much for sharing this.
In order to create the Greatest Swordfight in Modern Times, Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin trained for months with Peter Diamond and Bob Anderson, who between them had been in the Olympics; worked on Bond, Lord of the Rings, Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), and Star Wars films; and coached Errol Flynn and Burt Lancaster. Every spare moment on set was spent practicing. Eventually, when they showed Rob Reiner the swordfight for the movie, he was underwhelmed and requested that it be at least three minutes long rather than the current one minute. They added steps to the set, watched more swashbuckling movies for inspiration, re-choreographed the scene, and ended up with a three minute and 10 second fight which took the better part of a week to film from all angles.

It took me less than a half hour to find the context for every one of those verses, maybe next time you want to be snarky about other people’s faith you could do a little research first.
Thank you wow. Finally some good content. People doing this “actual bible verse” thing with NO context is just as bad as someone trying to explain science without knowing the science. It makes you look like a fool.
