Tips That Can Save Your Kid’s Life.

THIS IS IMPORTANT

When I was a child, from the time I was about four and could understand things, my mom told me and my brother that we should have a secret word. That way, if we were ever in trouble or felt unsafe and we didn’t want the people around us to know we needed her to come get us, we could let her know. So she let us pick the word and my brother and I chose the phrase “peanut butter cups.” (I’m happy to share the phrase now since both my brother and I are adults now).

I used the phrase twice in my life. Once, I was at a friends house when I eight years old. Her dad got really drunk and was throwing things against the wall. I was really scared and I didn’t want to draw attention to myself on the phone when I called my mom to come get me because I didn’t know if he would get more violent if I asked her to come get me. So I called her and was calm and after a couple minutes I asked “Hey mommy, did you get me those peanut butter cups from the store?” And she said “I’ll be right there.” And she came and got me within minutes.

Second, I was a teenager spending the night at a friends house. Her brother and dad were drinking and they started talking about things that made me uncomfortable - ie: what they liked to do to women. My friend didn’t seem perturbed and said that was normal for them and that I shouldn’t worry. But I was worried because they were really drunk and I was 15 and the only ‘woman’ around that wasn’t related to them. I went in my friends room, told her I needed to call my mom and say goodnight. Before I hung up with her I asked “Next time we go to the store, can we get some peanut butters cups? I’ve been craving them.” And she came and got me, just like that.

Two incidents, one as a young child, one years later as a teen. Don’t discredit this stuff, it fucking works. My brother used it a few times too. Let your child pick the word and no never, ever, ever, ever get mad at them for using it no matter what it is.

No, but think about this.

The crows she feeds obviously have their own little lives. They go about their business, and they spot *pretty thing* or /unique thing/ in question. What gets me is that the *first* thing on their minds as recipient of this thing is the little girl that feeds them.

They spot a thing, and immediately must think, “that nice girl with delicious foodstuffs must have this to show my gratitude.”

It’s actually more than that, though, if you read the articles or watch the videos. This has taken place over YEARS- it started with these birds following this little girl around because she was a messy eater and it has turned into a ritual for the family. They have a water station and food stations where they daily set out things for these birds and sometimes (but not always), these birds leave ‘payment’ behind for the food.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE

These birds are not just taking food and leaving shinies. These birds are watching over this family now. Their lives have become involved. These crows are keeping track of this girl and her mother even when they are out of the yard. How do we know?

One of them is a photographer, and one day while she was photographing some stuff on a bridge, she dropped her camera’s lenscap over the edge. There was no way she could get it back, so she left it. When she got home, the lenscap was sitting on the edge of one of the feeding stations, waiting for her.

Not only were the birds following and watching over her, they were smart enough to realize she dropped an Important Thing and cared enough to bring it back to her.

I could not have asked for more

I just found out about Essence Bowman, she died this week after she got hit by a car during a police arrest.

The police didn’t even contact her family to tell her what happened to her….the family found out from the hospital.

She was also mentally ill and leaves behind 3 beautiful children

It’s such a disgrace that we haven’t heard much of her story…we need to seriously do right be the countless black women who are lost to violence and protect the ones that are living

she has a gofundme page that has raised about 300 dollars out of 20k goal to cover her expenses: https://www.gofundme.com/essencebowman

Essence’s sister is on twitter under the acc: @irreverentfash

Send her your condolences and please boost her tweets

Early reports suggest an assault rifle was used at the end of the rally, which, until that point, had been peaceful. One suspected shooter has been reportedly shot down, with the on-going pursuit of a potential second shooter.

Update: Raw footage posted by those present show police officers and civilians frantically running, while some duck behind a car for cover. Multiple gunshots can be heard in another video taken on the scene.

Update: No motive or affiliation with #BlackLivesMatter has been stated. Images from earlier in the protest that surfaced on Twitter showed a peaceful scene, with police officers stopping to pose for pictures alongside protesters.

Update: The above image is a statement by the DPD’s Chief David O. Brown. 3 officers are dead and 10 are wounded after two snipers opened fire following police brutality protest. CBS DFW has quoted a witness who provided a detailed, first-hand account.

Update: The Dallas shooting started as a peaceful protest, not a #BlackLivesMatter attack. Unfortunately, people were quick to blame the protesters for the shootings, despite reports that the shooting was carried out by snipers separate from the protest.

Update: The DPD Chief says a thorough search is in progress for a possible bomb planted downtown, after a threat by one of the sniper suspects. More details were revealed at the press conference.

Update: A fourth police officer has been killed in the Dallas shooting. Video footage from the scene appears to show the “person of interest” on the street moments after shots rang out.

Update: In a tweet confirming the death of a fourth officer, Dallas police said that the person of interest had turned himself over to authorities. They were also able to take a separate suspect into custody in the early hours of Friday, in addition to the man who voluntarily surrendered.
