malcolm in the middle was not only one of the most groundbreaking and formative sitcoms of the early 2000s but it was one of the best/truest interpretations of the working class in modern media. it explored the complexities of constantly being down on your luck/struggling from bill to bill while finding humor in the mundane, and how intelligence cannot always be measured by iq. despite it’s often slapstick and outlandish comedy, the show was one of the rawest and most genuine i’ve ever seen. in this essay i will–

i just know dustin’s mom LOVES steve. she invites him to family dinner every friday, he goes grocery shopping with her when dustin’s out with the party, she naturally doesn’t care about hawkins high drama so she never had that “king steve” image of him, all she knows is that he’s the nice young man who looks out for her son when she’s not there, and she’s so grateful for him and she thinks he’s a great influence for dustin. steve starts bringing robin along on their errands and at dinner and she loves her too, she always sends them away with enough food for a week. she ruffles their hair and pinches their cheeks no matter how much dustin tells her it’s embarrassing because they’re not kids mom !!!! (they secretly love it tho)
