Buzz Roundup (7/23/14)

Dispatch Magazine conducted some brief interviews to preview a couple of our big shows coming up in the next week: Gogol Bordello (7/24 at the State, i.e. TOMORROW) and Band of Horses (7/30 at the State)

MaineToday features tomorrow’s The Milk Carton Kids show at PCMH (7/24)

Not only did Maine Music News review and take photos of Lord Huron’s recent visit to the State, they even dedicated a whole seperate review to opener James Apollo.

“It’s not often that an opening band is as captivating as the headliner, but when James Apollo took the State Theatre stage, I was instantly hypnotized. Deep, dark and mysterious, both visually and musically, the group had a part retro/part outlaw/part English prep school look that I connected with instantly.”

"Rising Appalachia Music can be summed up in one word: beautiful” - PCMH review/photos from MMN

Buzz Roundup (7/16/14)

Portland was treated to an intimate show from rising New Zealand duo BROODS last week at Empire. WCYY has pics, video, and audio of their apperance on the station.

If you missed King Buzzo of Melvins at Port City Music Hall, you missed out on not only some of the heaviest acoustic guitar playing ever, but a dash of humor involving Iggy Pop & Weezer. Maine Music News has photos from James Pappaconstantine, whom also posted photos of the hauntingly awesome Emma Ruth Rundle’s opening set as well.

Zach Deputy PCMH photos/review by Jenny Nelson at MMN - “It’s completely awesome to go to a show where everyone is moving, swaying, dancing, and basically loving on each other. Couples, groups of guys, groups of girls, a lot of them yelling out ‘I love you Zach!’ and requesting songs, it was really the perfect show for a hot summer night.”

In case you missed it the other day, here is the State Of The State II wrap-up video produced by Knack Factory & The Bangor Daily News.

A/V Roundup (7/12/14)

Our digital desk here at the State Theatre & Port City Music Hall is getting a little cluttered, so how about an A/V roundup for your weekend?

If you aren’t familiar, Q on CBC Radio is a fantastic Canadian program hosted by interview master Jian Ghomeshi, and fortunately for those of us outside the Great White North, they put everything online. It just so happens they have recently featured a number of artists playing PCMH soon:

Against Me! (PCMH 7/27) • “Unconditional Love" • “FML666” • “True Trans Soul Rebel”Interview

Future Islands (PCMH 9/4) • “Doves” • “Little Dreamer” • “Spirit” • Interview

Sam Roberts Band (PCMH 10/23) • “Shapeshifters” • “We’re All In This Together” • Interview

While The Box Tiger was down in Beantown blowing the minds of the masses at Boston Calling Music Festival, they stopped by the Sonicbids office to perform a stripped down acoustic version of their song “Hospital Choir”. See their first local show as a 100% Maine based band (temporarily, but whatever!) TOMORROW 7/13 at PCMH, opening for Circa Survive & Ume.

As his new album title states, Bahamas Is Afie. Afie is not from the Bahamas, but Canada. He visits Empire on 9/12. Watch him ask tough guys hard questions in the new video for the song “Stronger Than That”.

You know how we think back to the Beck, Jane’s Addiction, or My Morning Jacket shows at the State, and still have a hard time believing they actually happened? Ryan Adams on 7/22 could very well end up being thought of in the same way. Not only is it going to be the first show in support of his upcoming new album, or his first show in well over a year period, but I believe it's his first show with a FULL BAND in quite some time. Who knows what we are in store for. Check out his new single “Gimme Something Good”, then perhaps pre-order the new album.

Speaking of hard to believe shows: Mastodon. Gojira. Kvelertak. HEAVY. We have collected some killer live videos from each band to prepare you. Don’t forget earplugs!
