Lucas Digne suffered last Thursday one of the worst days of his life. He has lived in Plaça Catalunya for a few months now. He used to live in the upper part of Barcelona, in a quieter residence with a garden and pool - but he has since decided to settle in the center of the city with Tiziri, his wife since 2014. Both of them have loved their life in the center of the city, enjoying the shops of Passeig de Gràcia, strolling along Las Ramblas, or just sitting on a terrace to have a coffee. On Thursday afternoon they were not on the scene of the barbaric attack, but they easily could have been.

The team had a day of rest the day after the defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu on the return leg of the Spanish Supercopa, and Lucas was at home when he heard a rumble, the blows of the impact of the van, and people shouting coming from the street. This lead him to the window, and what he saw he says was “indescribable”. His heart skipped a beat, but he did not hesitate, and immediately ran off, getting some bottles of water and a few towels. Faced with the chaos that seized Las Ramblas, Digne joined the crowd of people who helped the wounded.

The Frenchman does not want to talk about it. He does not think he’s a hero for making tourniquets when he saw arms and legs bleed. He says instinct took him to it - like many more citizens and tourists who helped with first aid until an endless number of ambulances and police began to arrive. Hence Digne was not outside of his house for long before everyone received an order to clear the streets. From his window, he continued watch how the wounded were transferred to different hospitals. Once there, in his house, he says could not suppress the tears.

He, along with the infinite anonymous heroes who turned to the victims in their time of need, deserves a long applause. [x]

25 trophies. 15 seasons. 571 games.  51.237 minutes on the pitch.
“I saw that when a teammate used to score, everyone went and celebrated with him, but if I let one in, everyone would criticise me. I wasn’t happy. For 12 years I didn’t like what I did - I hated it. I was the typical kid that people could see wasn’t happy from a mile off. I never laughed or had fun playing football”
Ex-FC Barcelona and Manchester United Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes has decided to retire from football.
Moltes gracies, Víctor Valdés Arribas !
