“As a son of a tenant farmer, I know that education is the only valid passport from poverty.
As a former teacher–and, I hope, a future one–I have great expectations of what this law will mean for all of our young people.
As President of the United States, I believe deeply no law I have signed or will ever sign means more to the future of America.”

Before Lyndon B. Johnson went into politics, he spent a year as a teacher at Welhausen School in Cotulla, Texas, a small town on the border of Mexico. Johnson’s classes were made up of the children of Mexican-American farmers–they spoke little English and Johnson spoke almost no Spanish. This year would influence him for the rest of his life.

This will be the fourth year in a row that Robert Pattinson is fundraising for the GO Campaign.

The charity’s first Ambassador, he and Ewan McGregor will be co-hosting the annual fall charity event on the beach in Santa Monica on Nov. 5, 2016. Last year his fiancee, FKA twigs, sang with the Children’s Orchestra, made up of instruments made from recycled materials.

The gala is where some of GO Campaign’s biggest supporters and Local Heroes come together in celebration of the life-changing opportunities given to orphans and vulnerable children around the world. Their biggest event of the year, guests have the opportunity to meet Local Heroes and mingle with social activists, philanthropists, and celebrities alike. It is a night of fine dining, good company, and memorable performances from the likes of Ewan McGregor, Melissa Etheridge, FKA Twigs and the Recycled Orchestra, and Cirque du Soleil performers. Guests have included Robert Pattinson, Katy Perry, Kate Hudson, Vin Diesel, to name a few. It’s a night that changes the lives of children around the world and every guest is an important part of the evening’s success.
