Sara gapes, unsure of what to do about this situation. The fact that he could do this at all is both fascinating and frightening. She decides she might as well keep this… gift… if it could even be called that. She doesn’t want to be rude.

“W-well, then! Er… yeah. W-we should go get all of this, um, looked at?” She gestures to her eye, her arm, and her leg.

“You betcha!”

A bumper car pulls up beside them.  He hops into the driver’s seat.

“Need help gettin’ in?”

Sara blinks. That’s quite a bumper car he’s got there. It’s got a face, too… It’s strange, creepy, and actually pretty adorable altogether. In her opinion, anyway.

“I’m good, I’m good!” she says as she gets in right beside him. “S-say… can this bumper car b-be out here? Aren’t they usually confined t-to a single designated area?”

“Welll, I run this park and I’m a toon!  So breaking the rules is expected around here!”

“O-oh… I see!” Sara’s not entirely sure she understands, but if this clown runs the park, then he holds some position of power, so what he says must probably go.

And then something Beppi’s said doesn’t sit right with her.

“Wait… a toon?” What’s he mean by that?

“Yup!  A toon!  Like the kids watch on their Saturday mornings!  The Bugs Bunnies, the Mickey Mouses, et cetera.  Just like those!”

“…W-wait, do you mean to tell me… this entire world is a c-cartoon world?! I-i-is this real?!”

Then what is she now?!

“You got it, friendo!  A real true drawn and colored cartoon!”

“…Th-then what am I?! Am I one now as well?!”

Sara doesn’t know if that question even has an answer this time around.

“Hmmm…I dunno honestly!  Guess we’ll find out!”

“Ohhhh dear…”

She doesn’t really say anything the rest of the way.

Well, as strange as a talking gigantic flower is, he seems nice! The girl smiles timidly. “And I’m S-Sara… a-and it’s fine! There shouldn’t be any circumstance that prevents, erm, a-any form of social interaction!”
Gosh, does Sara wish that is the case. It’s so hard to see a friendly interaction in the school where she spends most of her time, let alone an interaction involving a good smile.
“I-I’m from Namseong City… is this your home?” She gestures around a little at the last part. She doesn’t know of many people living out in a place like this, but she supposes a rural lifestyle doesn’t hurt so much. Then again, this is a flower she is talking to…

Cagney waves a leaf dismissively.

“This little ‘ol forest? Nope! My home is pretty close, though, so you aren’t too far off! As for the direction of your home…”

Cagney brings the leaf to his chin, genuinely stumped. ‘Namseong’? He didn’t even know how to spell that, much less where it could possibly be. Was there a land beyond the isles with that name? Who knows? Maybe this girl was just crazy. Ah, but now he’s made it clear he doesn’t know by hesitating so long. So much for leading her astray. He offers Sara an apologetic expression.

“Er, I’d like to help you, but I don’t think I’ve heard of that city before. I didn’t even know there were any cities so close to Inkwell Isle. Or not so close, even!”

“Oh… th-that’s quite the issue…”

Great… turns out she’s a lot more lost than she thought she was. Ah… might as well make the most of it in the meantime. She takes a few more steps towards the flower, in cautious earnest.

“S-so, you say the name of this place is… Inkwell Isle? Did I get it r-right?”

It’s the first time she’s heard that name. It’s the first time she’s had to say it. It would be fine if she gets it wrong.

So why is she feeling so nervous about screwing up the name somehow?

Why does the feeling of home creep up on her right when it shouldn’t?

More importantly… why is she so unusually quiet today?

“I… uh…”
The whitehead looks around. Everything looks wrong? Check.
“Very much so, I-I think…”
She takes a few steps closer, despite her own discomfort. “Wh… who are you?” Oh my gosh, she almost asked what he was instead.

Jeez, this one was almost too easy. Walking closer already? If she had any idea what she was getting herself into, she should have moved in the opposite direction. Still, he grins down at the girl in what seemed to be a friendly manner.

“I’m Cagney! It’s nice to meetcha! Though it might have been better under different circumstances, what with you being lost and all. Where are you from? I might be able to help you find your way back.”

Well, that or get her even more lost. Whatever’s funnier.

Another lovely day in Inkwell!  Beppi was walking through his park after having played a few pranks, and causing a few laughs.  It was successful!

Now he was just unwinding, taking a stroll.  He stopped.  Was that a new face?  He thinks he sees a new face!

Avatar

A face that had one eye covered by a flowery handkerchief. That face belonged to a human girl, white-haired and seeming fourteen, looking around with her one good yellow eye for trouble. She pressed her handkerchief against her right eye further, grimacing… as if it hurt.

There were a couple of cuts and bruises on her right arm and leg, too. It thankfully didn’t appear to impede her movements, but that looked painful all the same. Sara could only hope someone wouldn’t see her like this–she didn’t want to worry them.

That being said, she’s inside a fair of some sort, so… that could be a problem.

So, mind made up, she walks over to a space behind a closed food stall and crouches down. She could use a break.

“Nothin’ like takin’ a load off, eh?”

How did he get there?  WHEN did he get there?  Only he knew.

“Hiya!  Never seen YOU around before!”

“Kyaaah!” the girl yelps as she jumps back, clearly startled by his sudden appearance. Her surprised jolt causes the handkerchief to fall from her grasp, revealing a black eye.

“Er… h-hello!” she finally stammers, doing a 90-degree bow out of politeness. She doesn’t seem to notice her own exposed injuries in this moment.

“Woah!  That uhhh…that don’t look too good, pally!  You okay?  Need to get that look at?”

It’s right then that she remembers much of the skin exposed on the right half of her body is wounded. She bolts upright.

“Um, th-that would be nice, I suppose,” she says as she averts her gaze, looking almost ashamed. “I-I’m very sorry to trouble you with this, it frankly c-could’ve been worse. M-maybe I should walk this off–oh, I’m rambling! S-sorry!”

“Ahh its no trouble at all!  I help folks all the time!  Think of it as a friendly ‘jester’!”

Rimshot.

“Watcha doin out here?”

She can’t help but giggle at the pun. Man, does she have a soft spot for those.

At the question though, her smile falters just a little bit. “I… uh.”

On one hand, she’s not entirely sure the answer she has to give is a good one. On the other hand, she sees no harm in being honest.

“I’m actually, uh, trying to cool off, a-and comprehend what just occurred to me,” she sighs. “Some days just get… a little too eventful. Perhaps worth the trouble, but even so.” There’s a sad smile on her face at that last bit.

“Yeah I feel yeah.  Sometimes too much happens in a day an’ ya just wanna take a load off.  I can understand that!”

She smiles. “I thought I’d be used to trouble hitting the fan on a daily basis by now.” She stretches out a hand, as if offering a handshake. “I’m Sara.”

He shakes her hand gleefully, “Names Beppi T. Clown.  Nice to meetcha!”

He pulls his arm back, but his hand doesn’t stop shaking her’s.  Instead, it detaches off his wrist.

Sara yelps when that happens. “Gah! Uh… Beppi, y-your hand!”

She looks quite horrified, and is trying to give the hand back.

Sara freezes up the moment she notices the flower. That’s… huge…
“What kind of carnation moves of its own accord?” she whispers to herself before stepping closer with trepidation.
And then it looks back. It has a face.
Oh god.

The girl’s obvious fear was more than Cagney could have hoped for. He hadn’t even had to do anything yet! As funny as it is though, it wouldn’t do any good to laugh just yet. Why risk scaring them off when there’s still so much more fun to be had? Putting on an air of surprise, Cagney calls out.

Image

“Oh! Gosh, I haven’t seen you around before! Are you lost?”

A walk through the Whispering Slopes always calms Sara down. It’s nice to be trekking through the hills on a windy day, listening to the murmuring trees and trying to comprehend what they could possibly be saying.
This time, though, it doesn’t feel like a game anymore.
She swears the trees are actually trying to tell her something this time. Something about this particular neck of the woods no longer seems right to her. Something about this part of home is no longer that–home.
But Sara is an inquisitive girl, and she won’t let the questions invading her mind go unanswered.
So she keeps walking down the dirt path, unaware of what she is getting herself into.
(( @floral-facade Dude, I am so sorry, I fell asleep after I came home and just effed up my sleep schedule all over again XD))

The further she walks down the path, the more the woods slowly shift to something more surreal. Even further, and the surroundings are unmistakably cartoonish in nature. Everything from the dirt under her feet to the grass and trees around her appear to be straight from a sketchbook, despite feeling the same as they normally would. Eventually, the path leads to a small clearing in the forest, and right near the edge facing away from her is an impressively large, bright orange flower. A flower that was visibly moving of its own accord.

Meanwhile, Cagney pays little mind to the the footsteps behind him right away. They probably just belonged to a toon that lived around here or something. Instead, he focuses on carefully gathering the wildflowers in front of him. It’s only after he gets them into the basket slung on his arm that he bothers to turn and look…

Only to see an unfamiliar face. Oh. How very interesting.
