Happy Turkey Day!

So much to be thankful for today; I don't even know if I can sum it all into one post.

I am extremely grateful for my amazing coworkers, who helped me through a very rough first job with a terrible manager. They were the reason I didn't quit outright before finding another job. I met incredible people through that experience whom I can now call my close friends.

I am thankful for landing a job at a company I never thought I'd be able to work for. I was scared of leaving my old coworkers since we got along so well, but the people here are amazing, brilliant and kind. I know I always freak out about having a plan for the future and what I want to do, but being at this company has eased my fears about the future a lot because I'm actually enjoying going to work each day.

I am grateful for my friends. I shared an awesome trip to Seattle and Vancouver with my best friends from college earlier this year and more adventures are in the works. I am still in touch with a handful of people from way back in high school and I'm glad they're always there for me. Although working so far away from home has made it really tough to see and spend more time with them, I hope they know I am extremely grateful to have them in my life <3

I am grateful for my family. Despite always complaining about them, my parents have truly given me the world. I am thankful they still let me live at home rent free instead of trying to kick me out like some of my friends are experiencing. I am excited to be able to go to China with them next year and pay for their trip with my own money.

Who doesn't like knotted bites of tender, chewy, golden-brown pizza dough that are tossed in butter with flecks of garlic and herbs clinging to the nooks and crannies? Now imagine those same garlic knots, but with flecks of crisp, spicy pepperoni worked in, along with the kind of golden brown, crusty bottom that only a cast iron skillet can impart. And let's throw in the wafting steam and moist, tender center that pull-apart breads come with, and oh, how about two different cheeses? Sound good to you?

I started my life with a single absolute: that the world was mine to shape in the image of my highest values and never to be given up to a lesser standard, no matter how long or hard the struggle.

This is something I’ve been thinking about for some time based on my experiences with anxiety. These are solely my own thoughts on my experiences.

I think that this is slightly more specific to social anxiety, but I think it still fits the blanket term.

"How are you?"

Ask it not just to ask, but ask it with every intention to sit down and listen and engage.

Date someone who is interested in you. I don’t mean someone who thinks you’re cute or funny. I mean someone who wants to know every insignificant detail about you. Someone who wants to read every word you write. Someone who wants hear every note of your favourite song, and watch every scene of your favourite movie. Someone wants to find every scar upon your body, and learn where each one came from. Someone who wants to know your favourite brand of toothpaste, and which quotes resonate deep inside your bones when you hear them. There is a difference between attraction and interest. Find the person who wants to learn every aspect of who you are.

I am the girl who prefers to spend her Friday night curled up with her pillow, reading a good novel, and I am also the girl who likes to go out on a Saturday night and dance until the DJ plays his last song. I am the girl who wants to wear beat up converses and an oversized sweatshirt, and I am also the girl who owns over sixty dresses and too many shoes to count. Why did it become okay to say one is better than the other? Because I am all of that.
